Title: Marvelman anywhere?
Post by: judda fett on 18 October, 2007, 11:27:53 PM
Does anyone have, know how to get, know someone who knows someone etc- any way of gettin a good run of this (I mean the Moore/Leach/Davis run in particular)? Any photo copied and filed versions doing the rounds? Just curious. Ive been having a butchers at my few Warrior comics and read an old Alan Davis interview recently talking about how it went tits up in the end and really wish I had at least all the Warrior stuff. Im pissing in the wind aren't I? There was a GN wasn't there too..?

Miracleman comics often come up on ebay at a surprisingly reasonable price.  Off you go!

Did they reprint the Warrior run then? If they did thanks for the heads up!

If you're really struggling to get hold of this I think you can get a digital version from one of the torrent sites...

Yep- repeated the Warrior run and concluded the story.  One of the issues is filler (possibly #8) and is only worth getting if you're interested in reading reprints of the original Marvelman stories from the '60s.  1-16 (minus the fill-in) is Alan Moore's run.

Having said that, I looked on Ebay myself last night- my word,  what a bunch of chancers!  Don't pay that sort of money for them unless you're really desperate.

"There was a GN wasn't there too..?"

There were four gn's:

-A Dream of Flying (collecting all of the Leach issues from Warrior, as reprinted and colourised in the first three issues of the Eclipse series)

-The Red King Syndrome (collecting the Davis stuff, as well as John Ridgway and Chuck Beckum-nee-Austen)

-Olympus (collected the John Totleben issues that completed Moore's run - particularly costly, as it reprints Kid Miracleman's infamous destruction of London)

-The Golden Age (collects Neil Gaiman's opening run on the series alongside Mark Buckingham (and D'Israeli on colours), which mostly deal with how the world has changed since the advent of the Overmen - doesn't reprint the single page interval pieces though)

Which leaves only Gaiman and Buckingham's Silver Age uncollected, but that only managed two issues before Eclipse went bust.

Not sure about posting links to torrents on this site so I won't. Suffice to say, if one were to go to mininova.org and type in Miracleman, they may very well find what they're looking for.

I'm pretty sure that Miracleman: Apocrypha made it into print too, though I've never seen a copy.

Apocrypha was mostly rubbish, other than the Gaiman framing bits and the story by Steve Moore and Alex Ross about a depressed astronaut.
