Solar Wind is the award winning parody and homage to British adventure comics of yesteryear. Winning National Comic of the Year as well as being nominated for an Eagle Award, it has also won SFX fanzine of the month and critical acclaim.
Now, just in time for Christmas, the Solar Wind Summer Special hits the virtual shelves of 21st Century digital newsagents with 68 Pages of frankly irresponsible levels of cosmic energy emanating from the stories, articles and nonsense within.
The Summer Special is the final issue of Solar Wind and features such favourites as Griefbringer, the dramatic end of Deathrunner, as well as the final revelations of Gingerbread Colditz and much much moreâ?¦
Many thanks to everyone who has helped and contributed to Solar Windâ??s success over the last 5 years. Artists, writers, readers and friends.
Stay Cosmic!
Paul Scott
The Summer Special is available for £3 + £1P&P from Paul Scott, 13 Kiln Crescent, Bishop Middleham, Ferryhill, County Durham, DL17 9AP. Or by PayPal to paulvonscott@yahoo.co.uk. Issue 6 of Solar Wind and Issues 1 and 2 of Solar Wind spin-off Sunny for Girls are still available for just £1 (plus £1 P&P) each.
I refuse to believe that a comic called Deathrunner ever existed or that you have the last episode of it... It's all just made up lies from the olden days.
Or all those pages will be blank and it will have been just another of my delusions.
Cor!!! How very, very cool and exciting this is!
I'll take one, and one for my wife too.
Will this work?
Will this work?
Todays comic ..tomorrow ! at yesterdays prices !
I laughed when i saw that cover.
A spoof comic is such a good idea. There are so many things you could do with that idea.
I might have to try this comic out.
A spoof 2000ad would be good as well.
Peter, you've really been missing out if you haven't yet read Solar Wind. It's far and away one of the most enjoyable comics in years.
its genius so it is !
and cosmic ray's even groovier than tharg, telephone dials are so yesterday.
It's a strange feeling to be excited about a new issue of a comic- it's not something I get very often- but it's one I get with a new issue of Solar Wind.
Brilliant brilliant stuff.
When's the Christmas Special out?
There never used to be Christmas specials in British comics really, at least I've never seen one outside of 2000AD.
And Solar Wind is no exception, this is the last issue.
But why is it the last issue?
Well, I could probably write along essay on the subject and still not sum it up!
But essentially I have limited resources (the old time/money/energy equation) and I can't keep two comics running (currently Solar Wind and Omnivistascope) without losing something along the way. So I'm going to concentrate on Omnivistascope as that means I get to do more of what I enjoy - writing.
There are lots of other factors, but that's the most important one.
In the future if circumstances changed I'd like to do another comic that everybody felt they could contribute to. But not however, Solar Wind.
Solar wind is the Daddy.
I'm so looking forward to my copy. I've loved every issue of this and I get to see my scribbles one last time!

I really want to post the pictures I have of me and the boy messing around with the free 'tache from SW #1 (IIRC)...will try and send to someone wise and see if they can post it up.

Paul's books are ALWAYS worth getting.
All my free gifts from Solar Wind had a habit of mysteriously disappearing shortly after I got them home, which leads me to suspect that it was all some kind of temporal con perpetrated by Cosmic Ray...
I found it hard to 'use' them...it goes against my 'grown up' attitude of 'leave it alone and it's BOUND to be worth something one day' bollox!! They are way more fun to play with though!!
I somehow don't think that glow in the dark Dracula fangs are going to increase rapidly in value, Mark.
By the way, did I mention that wearing that 'tasche, your boy *really* looks like famed Mexican revolutionary Emiliano Zapata?
It does suit him...he carries it much better than me. I lost my teeth at Bristol some years ago...much to the anger of the 'little nipper'!!
I do have some spares of the teeth and some of the other free gifts if people want them. I'm having a bit of a clearout.
Surely you can't have any spud gusn left, Paul? After all, I'm not even entirely sure that they'd be legal any more...
"I lost my teeth at Bristol some years ago"
Well I told you at the time to keep them in the glass by your bed!
Heh, I have LOADS of Spud Guns left. If anyone can think of anything worthwhile to do with them, then by all means let me know.
The Spud Guns do look a bit dangerous in hindsight :)
Any of the Fortune Telling Fish left Paul?
Can't wait for you all to see the final episode of Gingerbread Colditz, it's a work of genius.
Gingerbread was the first thing I read. Awesome. A brilliant ending.
Just got to read the rest now. What a package!

Al Ewing should stop writing. Nothing can top the Destructivore. I was actually laughing out loud at this, which is pretty rare in comics.

"For top agent Jason Gritt, breakfast was the most important MURDER of the day!"
Got my comp today - great stuff so far. The sun sets on what's practically a small press institution.
Cheers, Paul!
Got my copy this morning and will be reading it on a train as i head off on holiday; the only place to read a Summer Special for the first time.
Cheers, Pau...erm i mean CosmicRay.
Tulkas.
I have spud guns, mood changing bracelets, glow in the dark whistles and some caps for guns if someone has a genunine good cause they can go to.
Meanwhile... it appears that the truth behind Cosmic Ray may at last have been revealed.

He's opening a toy shop?

Ah, that's old news. 'The bastard son of a black hole' might not sound scientific but it amounts to pretty much the same thing.
The Summer Special is now available to buy in the shop, as are back issues, issues of OVS, and some of the free gifts will hopefully be available soon.

I had a flip through this morning, but alas no time to stop and read. It looked astounding! I agree with the sentiments expressed about Gingerbread Colditz. Genius!
And since all my faves have mostly been mentioned, thought I'd throw in a word for my particular stand out - Warlock Holmes. Also good to see Chris Askhams stuff - a small press fave. As always, makes me annoyed I didnt get my act together to get more in there, and got me redrawing half of my OVS strip!
