Post by: jamarmiller on 19 December, 2007, 12:52:39 PM
So in place of an another  black and white Classic comic being colored and released this week,   Bloodforthebaron.com is releasing RED DAWN's issues 1-7's covers  instead!

But be warned some of these could be considered small spoilers!

http://www.bloodforthebaron.com/red%20dawn/red%20dawn.html

Click on the thumbnails to enter the gallery and view the image in a larger size

Interesting note for those that care:  The covers are modeled after the original Box art of the figures and vechiles of Action Force

you can see the ongoing discussion on this project with preview images that are/were  work in progress images and see the very beginnings of these covers and  how they transformed into the images they are today, in this thread

http://www.bloodforthebaron.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=9134#9134

Enjoy!!!

First issue is hopefully due to be released January 31st!

Is everybody here offensive?  This is a non-profit fan project, done for the love of toys and comics.  What's the problem?  No-one's forcing you to click.

This alleged "flyby whore" has every 2000AD under his bed!

When you cover our messageboard with multiple messages on the subject, all appended with that link, I'm inclined to believe it could be both.

Now now- season of good will and all that!

If I may declare an interest point out that I'm colouring a few strips for this site before carrying on.

It's a link to a comics related site. Yes, Jamar's posts are not, well, great. But we know the usability of this site is not great for those unfamiliar with its foibles.

Jumping on people doesn't help- it just makes us look like mean, norrowminded cunts of the sort that populate most other message boards and hate to see anyone 'new' of their turf.

Aw, I'm just jealous - we were a poor family and instead of Action Force toys I had to make do with wooden clothes pegs with soldier's faces drawn onto them.

Nope, just there is generally a dim view held of people using the Board as an advert platform if those people are not regulars on the board. you will find that most people on the board did read Battle and Eagle (and therefore Battle-Action Force-Eagle merging) and are fairly aware of Baron Ironblood (I myself had the Figure weird fruity beard-tash thing if I remember right) and co. and would receive the news of your project with some degree of support and good will- if you had spent time on the board getting to know us.

Put it this way, Imagine having some stranger walk in to your house. Help them selves to a cup of tea. Watch them Select and eat all your favourite bisects leaving you with just those suspicious pink wafer things every one leaves and then said stranger tells you that Cadburys cream eggs, which you rather like, are available again in the shops.

You see how upset you would be? Your post has created much the same reaction. So why not hang out with us? Talk some cod shite, find some kindred spirits. enthuse about your project and reminisce through the rose tinted Red Shadow helmet visor of nostalgia with us and possibly indulge in the genital sport of making Johnny Eyebrows even grumpier then he already is ;).

I certainly had no intention of eating all your favourite bisects.  Now hobnobs; they're the marine of dunking biscuits.

Thanks for posting, everyone, hope there's no ruffled feathers - they're murder in this weather.

I do pop in from time to time, but this posting system is a nightmare, and really I already have my own forum for discussing Red Shadows, but I'll make the effort.

Anyway, I ain't budging.  Not sure if you can advertise something that's free to all...

Accusations of spam be damned, I've just discovered this little gem lurking the the Battle Summer Specials section.

Unless I'm very much mistaken, that there is Cam Kennedy drawing Charley's War.

I'm sad enough to find this little curio rather exciting ...

Cheers!

A quick note on attribution of dates here - I'm only giving the dates of the Specials these stories appear in on the site. I suspect that the majority of these were reprints of stories that appeared much earlier ... the use of mechanical lettering, in particular, gives it away.

Also, I know I've read that "Clash of the Guards" story, but in 1990 I was at university and I'm absolutely certain I didn't buy any Battle summer special ...

Cheers

Ta for sharing, I'm a massive Kennedy fan and his more realistic army-work can be breathtaking.

Nice to see a visible transition in his art across the years as well

"you're the artist and expert, but I wouldn't put money on those pictures being Bellarinelli myself"

I'm actually neither an artist nor an expert, but both the pages I linked definitely say Belardinelli to me ... the hands alone are enough to convince me.

I will say that I don't t think it's very good Belardinelli, since he was never particularly comfortable with either regular people or real world situations (see his Mach One work for examples of this), but I would point to the following in the images below ...

In the first image, see the forced nature of the pose. I'm sorry - I'm a fan, but this is a perfect example of the sort of thing that tended to let him down.

In the second image, look at the rather lovely pointillism tucked away in the shading. Massimo all over, as far as I'm concerned.

Cheers!

"Possibly his pencils with some one else inking?"

 Possibly.

I would say i am about 80 percent sure that it is his work. There is something slightly different about it from the usual but perhaps his style changed a bit. After all look how different the last pieces he did for Robert Cox that were watercoloured.

If i had to bet on it i would say it was as no one elses work looks like his anyway.

It is Massimo..he did a lot of war art strips.. some great stuff in Action Weekly..

The other strips are all reprints, Carlos did El Mestizo in 1977. Rat pack 1977-78.

Cam's stuff is 1980ish.
