Title: S/D Agency Files Book 4
Post by: stevemfp on 07 January, 2008, 02:10:01 PM
Sorry if this has been brought up before but I've just bought the new Strontium Dog collection and noticed the blurb on the back says it's the final collection. Now I know that the "Death of Johnny Alpha" storyline has been retconned out of continuity but does this mean that we'll never get the chance to read it again? Also the list of artists includes Colin Macneil and Kim Raymond but no mention is made of Simon Harrison who contributes the last arc, in fact the last panel reads "Coming soon - The Final Programme!"
I know I've got the storyline in the original progs but isn't the idea of a complete collected edition to ... I don't know, collect the entire series? Maybe it's just me but I'd like to know what the score is here. Thanks for listening.

Wow that was quick. Thanks for the update. So I guess it'll be a standalone GN effectively out of S/D continuity. I can live with that. Now why no credits for the Harrison driod?

As many folk will no doubt be along to say, The Final Solution has never been ret-conned away, thankfully.  'Current' Alpha stories are just set sometime before the boys retire to Smiley's World to cultivate their moustaches.  Heckuva nice place, I hear.

Heckuva  heckuva nice place I hear too. So just to confirm, neither the death of JA or the Gronk have been retconned, just swept into a corner of the building where we'll not mention them again unless we have to? :)

The Gronk is dead?  Missed that one entriely!  I can't answer for goings on in Strontium Dogs, but Mr. Johnnys is still definitely dead.  He ain't Captain Marvel, y'know.

I was waiting for someone to pick that one up as soon as I saw how it read. No, the Gronk didn't die, I just seem to remember an interview with Wagner where he said something to the effect that he was going to use the current (non-retconned) series to tweak continuity to fit his vision. This, I believe included ignoring the Final Programme storyline and not mentioning the Gronk.

I realise I may be digging my own hole here so putting the whole retcon/dead Gronk issue to one side, why isn't Simon Harrison credited as artist?

I've just finished volume 3, and I'm guessing this current storyline is going to correct the Billy Glum hating Johnny Alpha thing.

Grrr...! I'm extremely annoyed!

I've just finished reading Strontium Dog book four, only to find that the last of the "extra" tales is completely missing, and the second-last has been truncated! Is this only in my copy, or is it the same for everyone?

Sounds like you have a misbound book.

I had that problem with one of the Dredd books a while back.
I buy mine from Sprint Books and they replaced it very quickly.

Crap! Now I'm going to have to haul it back to Forbidden Planet (the shop, not the planet).
