I've just done a bit of a Scojo on another forum. Basically lost my rag with this 16 year old right wing American (I usually only pick on people my own age, but he was really pi$$ing me off, the arrogant little half-pint nationalist twerp). Now it's likely I'll get a bit of a ban from the place. Has anyone else out there put their foot in it in a big way during a passionate debate/rant?
It was over politics and political cartoons/ reporting, by the way.
A one off rant about a political issue shouldn't get you banned, even scojo was given a million chances to behave!
Where was this rant? Can we all go & have a look?
I found this the other day, possibly on WEF or some games site...

Ohhh, a combination of many, though I don't usually go out of my way to flame. Actually this is by far the most mellow site I've ever found. 2K readers should rule the world.
That is excellent! (ok the picture cruel but the message is bang on) As I type i'm sending this to every moron and arguing dope fiend I know to enlighten them.

Who me? I find the best tactic is to crawl meekly into a hole and hide till it is safe again.
I have had problems with at least one bloke on one board (non 2000AD related) who is a feck of the highest order. He's always making up stuff I've said, which then attracts others who join in on either side before I finally have to point out in mind boggingly accurate details why this person is full of shit. Basically I've given up that board now.
My comments are not evil, yet great evil comes from them...
I got banned from a Neopets message board. It followed a series of long and highly detailed reports on the football World Cup, Wimbledon tennis, late night live action ice-hocky, Formula One Grand Prix, baseball world cup and Korean kickboxing championship. I don't know why I did it, but the weeks of furious, futile protests from enraged American message board fans felt extremely good.
neopets? What is this thing called "neopets"?
(is it like little teeny-tiny Keanu Reeves-in-Matrix tamagochis? (sp?) )
No, it's a website that works a bit like a Tamagochi. Over 4million users worlwide, and I annoyed most of them with "Jennymech's hourly sports round-up!"
That's pretty funny, actually.
The Trout, being evil by definition, approves of thoughtless behaviour as a point of principle.
Just don't do it here, where it will annoy real people.
Talking of Mr Scott J Nestel, he said on Yahoo my "king gag" isn't funny.
Gag? I don't understand. But I'm glad he's banned now.
- The Evil King
He totally wrong! Your royal hankachief is a most amusing item when bound over your mouth.
Is that his real name then ? Has there been any noticeable improvement in behaviour ??
"Has there been any noticeable improvement in behaviour ??"
Not that I've seen.
Wake, how the hell does he keep ending up in the chatroom?
He turned up again last night and was on the borderline between annoying and offensive, IMO.
Nothing nasty to report, but look at the log. He came close.
And Oddboy, how many times does the Trout have to sentence you to death before he gets respect?
It's a good job it amuses me to have you around.
SHOUT "MOO" AND THE TROUT WILL DISAPPROVE! -- ALL HAIL!
Scojo has not been banned from the IRC chat room. He has been banned from the database and simple chat rooms and this board.
Since I can't easily get a log from the IRC chat you'll have to copy and paste any evidence of his misbehaviour into an email to me.
I'm more than ready to extend his ban to the IRC chat if he can't behave himself there. I have been cutting him a little slack in the Yahoo group since it's a fan list rather than an official list. However, if (when?) he does cross my arbitrary line I'll stop him posting on that list with no further chances.
Wake
Nah, Wake, it wasn't a big deal.
I wouldn't want to ask for a ban, even for him.
He was just doing his "kiss kiss" comments thing and at one point came close to making a comment about someone being gay, although I couldn't be sure.
He mentioned the names of two 2K writers, followed by "..." and I had a strange precog feeling that something like "up a tree" was coming next. I may have been wrong.
As I say, it was minor. It was only me he annoyed and, as usual, ignoring him made him go away.
- Trout
Lately Scojo seems to have gotten into sending weird messages to directly to peoples email addresses, presumably because just about every messageboard, email list, chatroom or means of mass internet communication has banned him by now.
I've blocked the little twerp now, but I did find it mildly irritating at the time.
Yeah, for slagging off Americans. Touchy bastards.
Isn't it time we let Scojo back on the board? I think the guy has served his sentence & in a wierd sort of way I miss his presence here. He was always guaranteed to raise a smile on a dull friday afternoon with his inane rants. What do you say, or am I going to get slated by you lot for even suggesting this?
Anyone who thinks Scojo should be allowed back should vote on the relevant poll.
The current votes are 12% Yes, 65% No and 23% If he can behave elsewhere.
Wake
Link: Do you think scojo should be 'unbanned' and return
Just reading through the threads again & I'm amazed that it's deemed funny to post a picture of a kid with disabilities but an almost banning offence to hint that someone is gay with "kiss kiss' comments. That's the problem with trying to filter out material that's considered offence, someone has to draw the line at some point at what is acceptable but it's difficult for everyone to agree where that line should be. Personally I'm not going to be drawn on the PC arguement but if we are going to put pictures of disabled kids up on the board for people to laugh at then we might as well let Scojo back on the board. However far he went in the past, he never went that far.
Since he's since proved that he can't behave elsewhere is that last 23% effectively a no vote?
Scojo consistently insulted board members, Rebellion staff & 2000AD droids - driving both fans *and* writers/artists away. That alone, leaving aside the childish nonsense about his scripts, is usually enough to get someone kicked from a message board.
He had more than enough chances, and his behaviour in the chat room was apparently the last straw. Having seen what he's been like in other forums - the Yahoo group esp. - I see no reason why he should be allowed back here.
The PC argument is a non-starter - it has nothing to do with why Scojo was banned or why he should or should not be allowed to return.
With regards to the "un-PC" picture:
(i) the picture of the disabled kid wasn't what was being laughed at - the butt of that joke was people who argue over the internet.
(ii) the joke itself wasn't the picture, but the play on words. The photo was only to add emphasis to the words.
My conclusion (IMHO): if you were laughing at the picture because you found the image to be funny, rather than the joke to be funny, it says more about you then it does the person who displayed it.
Yes, it may cause offence anyway, but it wasn't posted on this message board - it was only seen by following a link which expressly stated that it may cause offence.
Disagree Oddboy, take away the picture and would the play on words still work? No, so it is the picture that you are ultimately laughing at.
Well it depends on your sense of humour... personally I think what I said above is true, but then I like crap pun jokes so maybe that's just little ol' me being me.

Hey don't get me wrong Oddboy, I wasn't judging you or anyone else, I wasn't even going to go into an arguement over what is or isn't funny. Comedy is purely subjective to the individual and not everyone shares the same sense of humour. I was just wanting to stir up a debate over what is and isn't deemed as an acceptable post on the site. Heck! I just want Scojo back and was trying to use this thread as an excuse to crowbar my opinion on the board. C'mon let him back, I'll even act as his parole officer and monitor his behaviour. Things have been pretty dull since he left.
Yeah why not?
He's easily killfilable/ignorable when he's at his most excessive.
Oh please no. I was quite liking being able to use the messageboard and chatroom.
Exactly, Art. It's easy to ignore his threads about his scripts/whatever John Wagner's done wrong this week/how we don't understand his genius, but he posted on every damn thread. It gets to the point where, if you don't want to listen to him, you have to leave, because his nonsense is *everywhere*
Fuck that.
IMHO the board is a much nicer place without him. i got very sick of reading his rants and being pestered by him in general. i know i can killfile him but quite frankly why should i have to? his behaviour was consistently annoying and abusive so he got banned end of story.....
Gamespot just for voicing my opinions on old threads. I got a warning and suspension, applogised in a polite, reasonable manner but they banned me permanently just for having a 'disruptive account. I could understand if I'd be posting threats of violence, was being constantly verbally and racially abusive, sticking porn up, threatening to upload a virus or making bomb threats. If they didn't want anybody responding to the old threads they should have locked the them!!! :-X :-X :-X
so you like posting on 8 year old threads huh?, that'll get you banned, it's as bad as posting porn.
Wow, this is an old thread...
Interestingly enough, I find that Amercian forums are a little more sensitive when it comes to religion/ politics. Patriotism is a HUGE thing in the US and a snarky comment about their god, president or Army can cause considerable upset.
I've learned a lot from this cartoon:
My brother got banned from a certain high-profile videogaming website on three occasions. Once for accusing the site of doctoring comparison footage between Xbox 360 and PS3 games (which was proven shortly afterwards by other visitors to the site with technical experience, prompting the site to delete the video and deny the incident had occurred despite the original comments still being visible), another time for accusing the site of pro-American bias in its coverage (which is a bit like calling water wet given it's an English language website whose main contributors are based in the West), and lastly (by which I mean he gave up on the site entirely afterwards) he was banned for posting the content of private PMs on a thread - the fact that the PMs were a series of thousand-words-plus essays from the same user quoting several hundred posts across several years to back up his rambling, threatening accusations of gayness fell on deaf ears. It was the guy who posted the PMs who made the complaint, too - and still frequents the site.
We should all be thankful that this particular forum is what it is.

I still do this now but its not a waste of time because the subject matter is very important plus the website and comments get very high viewing figures which are much higher than mainstream media.
If it was trivia like arguing about Transformers and that type of thing i wouldnt be that proud of myself at all.
As for being banned i was temporarily banned from this forum plus previous to that i had one warning from Wake about my conduct.
Other than that i havent been banned from any other forum.

I was once banned from the message board of the football club I support as I said one of the player's wives had a big arse.
I got banned from the Elite League Ice Hockey forum. Took a bit of doing. There was lots of argey bargey going on with our clubs (Cardiff Devils) owner who was also head mod of the forum and being very heavy on the old moderation, and it became a kinda right of initiation to get banned. The whole forum melted down a few weeks later and never reappeared. I set up a new one for our team, currently 800 odd members and going strong :D

OK, time to bring this thread out of retirement. I just got a "warning" on the Anime News Website. My crime? Calling out a little twerp over weather or not the physicaly disabled writer and artist Yoshihiro Togashi is a "Lazy Retard" or not. Quite obviously i'm going to stick up for the 50 year old working man with spina bifida over some internet troll and called him a cunt, rightfully obviously.
So thats apparently worthy of what is basically a 'last chance'. Sad, isn't it.
A friend and I got banned from CBR Forums because we used to use the same computer (a work one) to log in on late shifts. They thought we were the same member with multiple accounts so banned us.
I thought that was a ridiculous system - there are any number of reasons that 2 separate members may share the same computer.
Ha!

I not hear of him since Dredd 2012 IMDB forum years ago.

I think you were right to defend the disabled writer/artist, but you should have done it without calling the offending guy that word rhyming with 'runt'.* I think they were right to reprimand you, but last chance was a bit strong.
I hope the other guy got a bigger spanking mind. I'd say his was the worst wrong. I might not agree with what you did but I can totally understand as your action was reactionary and came from a good place.

I used to be a moderator on several JAWS websites/forums and eventually gave up...
people posting images of dead bodies to wake up to, political rants, rants in PM's about other member's rants, and even a person who had several aliases and would answer his own posts essentially talking to himself, who when unmasked took upon himslef to try and poison our good names wherever we posted including a site authorised by Mr Spielberg himself, it all got a bit crazy and I stepped down and got back to being just a fan.
It's amazing how some people can simply hate you for being a moderator as if you're on some kind of power trip, when all you're trying to do is keep the peace and not let 8 year old Larry Markowitz from Milwaukee see images of someone cut in half by a train on his post simply asking "How many JAWS movies were made?" fandom eh! :-\ ::)

Been thrown out of a pub for the opposite of the reason you might expect. Me, Mrs Snazz and our best friend couple were out on a birthday do of a less close friend, we found a comfortable corner, had several drinks and a good laugh, Mrs Snazz and Mrs Meltdown Man fell asleep. The hipster pub staff took great offence to this, insisting that sleeping wasn't permitted in the pub and if they didn't wake up we had to leave. The sofa was comfortable and they weren't hurting anyone, so this didn't make much sense. However they were insistent so in the end an exit was required.

To play devil's advocate, it's possible that a licenced drinking and entertainment establishment may get into legal trouble if people are discovered to be sleeping under their roof. I'm hazy on the rules regarding hotels, B&Bs and hostels, but figure there could be trouble...

Yeah, seems totally reasonable to me. I expect you'd get asked to leave if you were caught napping in a library, or cafe, or other public place. Sounds like the staff were just doing their job.
I once went to a nightclub with my then girlfriend and another couple. While me and the other guy went to the bar the girls waited at one of those stand-up tables. A guy came over and asked them if they'd like to come to the VIP lounge with him and share some champagne. They explained they were with us but the guy persevered and tried to get them to go with him. Eventually he gave up and as me and the other guy went back to the girls with the drinks, four bouncers turned up and chucked us all out. Turns out the sleazy guy was the night club owner and didn't take kindly to being turned down!

I was once barred from a pub (for a week) for being involved in a bar brawl, this is despite the fact I had left the pub before it happened and had no part in it. The manager agreed that I wasn't there but the fact I had been seen earlier speaking to the folk involved was enough for him. I had never met the folk before or after. I never went back.
I was also barred from the local off-licence for buying under agers (me and my mates) booze when I was 16
the most ban-happy pub I've ever known was Foreigners in Dundee in the late 80s - absolutely everybody I knew had been "banned for life" at least once - I think my tally was three times.
I was also once thrown out of a pub in Manchester and told to "take my drugs with me" after the landlord spotted me making a (totally innocent) roll-up.
So, I think I've figured out which of you was the Flat-Cap Coke Fiend and which Mickey Two Suits (http://boingboing.net/2016/04/13/list-of-people-barred-from-sou.html).

I was also once thrown out of a pub in Manchester and told to "take my drugs with me" after the landlord spotted me making a (totally innocent) roll-up.
Ha! I got thrown out of a pub in Deansgate for only drinking water. I was out with some friends but I couldn't drink because I had divers ear so was on medication. The owner came over and said "IF YOUR NOT GOING TO HAVE A PROPER DRINK YOU CAN GET THE FUCK OUT!!!". It wasn't like I'd just helped myself to the freebie water, I had deliberatly got one of the (over priced) bottled waters so this kind of thing wouldn't happen!
Seeing as the thread now includes stories of mishaps in public houses, I'll share this one:
My town has two branches of Weatherspoons. Some friends and I used to regularly go into one of them because we had a generally nicer atmosphere. Or so we thought.
One day, we went in there, and a bunch of lads on a table a few feet away from us were acting up. They were obnoxiously loud, and their conversation was pretty unsavoury - I caught 'midgets', 'phone sex' and 'amputees'. It was making everyone around us feel uncomfortable. There were pensioners and families with young kids, after all. So inevitably, a member of staff walked over to address the situation.
Except instead of warning the group of lads, he had a go at me and my pals. And he was pretty rude about it.
I stood up to correct the guy and explain what was going on, and he simply turned on his heel and bellowed 'I DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT. CLEAN UP OUR ACT, OR YOU'RE OUT!'
Other patrons in the pub spotted what had happened, and tried to speak up, but he wasn't interested. And the actual troublemakers obviously found this hilarious (there was a loud cry of 'AAAAH! WANKAAAAAHS!' and what I think were monkey noises, which the staff didn't bat an eye at.)
So, after conferring with my pals, we decided we'd try to sort this out reasonably. We went to the bar and asked to speak to the staff member, who tried to deflect us, but eventually came out front to speak to me. Again, I tried to explain the situation. And again, he wasn't interested in listening to me. All he wanted to do was lecture me instead and remind me that 'this is a public house, so watch your behaviour. And watch your mouth.'
I figured if he was determined give me an undeserved lecture about my 'behaviour,' when all me and my pals had done was sit down to a cup of coffee and our own quiet conversation, I'd let him see me at my very worst. So I gave it to him both barrels. By this point, I wasn't interested in getting an apology, or having the actual troublemakers dealt with. I was just incensed at having some snot nosed little twat talking to me like he was my dad or something. And I pretty much told him as much, at volume. Almost predictably, instead of digging in and throwing us out for that, he shrank back like a little mouse.
I found out some weeks later from staff working there that the guy was actually pretty widely disliked, and unsurprisingly, a bit of a shit. We've never gone back, because frankly, why would we after an experience like that? But apparently, I'm a hero to the bar staff for taking him down a few pegs in such a public fashion.

Madness, when the profit on bottled water at pub prices is far higher than he'd get from the average pint.

Yeah, bottled water is more expensive than petrol, especially at pub prices....
