Title: Rufus' Blog.
Post by: Pete Wells on 29 May, 2008, 08:05:30 PM
Don't know if it's been mentioned on here before but our very own Rufus has got a very entertaining, and surprisingly up to date, blog.

Damn you Dayglo for not shamelessly whoring yourself. What's wrong with you man?

Catch it before he disappears under an avalanche of deadlines!

Rufus: Your Tank Girl pages look really lovely, and true to the strip. I can't wait to pick these up.

When you say you scan the inked images. Are you scanning onto an A3 scanner?

Any chance we'll see Tanky's Bazooka Bra again?

Quick question about this months Low Life; I think I can see an element of McMahon (or is it Flint) in there, whilst those T.G. images seem true to Jamie H, is that on purpose, are you "finding your own style", or am I just seeing things that aren't there?

Cheers
Daney

Hi Dane,

Thanks for the kind words.

Images are scanned at A3 (the size i usually work), but I've also got an A4 scanner for smaller illos, and panels.

I scan, clean up art, then colour, or send to a colourist.

Bazooka Bra... umm... probably not. We're trying not to repeat too much stuff, and to move forward. I'm working on Issue 3 of 'Visions of Booga', and we've got some fun stuff I hope you'll enjoy.

I drew the strips in a different style as the tone of the story is different, and Aimee's a different character to Tankie. Low Life required grit and detail, Tankie a bit more humour.

I don't know if I'm succeeding but that was the intention! ;-)

That Tank Girl stuff is looking really, really good man. That's yet another blog favourited because of this site.

I'd definitely agree on what you say there about not doing pencils too tight. I've only just worked this out for myself after years of being too cautious and ruining my drawings with the inking.

Interesting bit of insight into how strips are created and also interesting seeing a script page even though its unreadable.

I think if you ask Rob Williams (on the other Thread) he'd post some script for you!

I'd be happy to post the first script of the current Low Life run. where do I post it?

Didn't know you had a blog Rufus. Tank Girl stuff's looking great.

Its not so much not being able to read the script but just having seen it in the first place having never seen a script page before.

I would really love to be able to get hold of complete script pages from all the old 2000ad strips that i like.

I was also blissfully unaware of your blog's existance, Rufus.
Self-promotion's never really been your strong suit, has it?
More self-pimpery on this board, please!

Rufus: That image is chuffing great!

I used to have a "full size" (Bolland) Dredd, and a "full size" Tanky on my bedroom wall as a kid.

(Unfortunately I got married, so all the posters are stored away now- wonder if I could sneak one up behind the office door?!)

Some great simple but effective tips there Ruf.

I'm always looking for outstanding techniques but I must say the Megazine hasn't seen a cover of that magnitude in some time.

I'd like to add my tupp'nce worth to say the new Tank Girl stuff looks fantastic Rufus and I cannot wait to get my hands on the Meg when it comes out.

I haven't been this enthusiastic about a new strip (or comic for that matter) for a long, long time.

Meg sales will increase by 1 while the strip runs, and if they have any sense they'll commission another series immediately for Alan C Martin and Rufus Dayglo.

And while they're at it Tharg should give you more Dredd to do, your rendition of Dredd is fast becoming a fave of mine, I really dig the old school style you bring to the character and we really need to see more of it!!!

Bless you Sir, very kind!

I'm working on Skidmarks right now, and really enjoying it... I hope people will give it a chance.

I'd love to do more Dredd... just need more arms!

Hope all is good with you Umpty!

Yours, pencil in hand...

Rufus

QuoteI have a long standing Dredd Commission to do (For which I can only thank the client for their God like patience) , and I want to try and do it in this technique, to add grit, and give it a vintage look..

Who would that be for then Rufus...?  :D
