Here's my quick contribution to save Dredd from becoming Eddie the Eagle's stunt double. Not to great I admit but as first attempts go not to bad. Hope it loads up.
I dont understand the "Eddie the Eagle stunt double" thing but nice picture

I think you might get the ref next week, though "Evil Knievel" might be a slightly better reference.

Your too young and innocent
Tweak72 to know such folly !
I've often thought it would have made sense for the Judges to have some kind of body armour. Apart from the pads for the knees and elbows, and the gold decorative stuff on the shoulders I mean.
Not as bulky as the one in that picture mind, (they could break that out in specific hairy situations) but something that'd stop standard rounds, and slow down the more devastating ammo. Sure they don't need to be weighed down too much, and rely on their skill and dexterity when facing perps, but you'd think with modern technology a lightweight armor would be in use. (If it is, never mind, but it looks pretty similar to a skin-tight superhero costume to me.)
thought i,d throw this into the pot google this.........iron man style exoskeleton full body armour .also on u-tube apparently.
needs some work tho
You mean this one?

How about this?

thankyou LARF ya see i have NO CLUE how to do that or i'd have done it for you.
anyway if wake and iamthesystem(like the pictures by the way) can come up with their examples now (and the hero from u-tube) how far could it go .......figure hugging jumpsuit that could withstand high velocity rounds ,fire resistant ,electro insulated ,having only a few symbols of office on it, a utility belt, extra knee/elbow pads tough boots and a striking helmet?
upgrade the original dont redesign.think of the justice dpt budget for gruds sake.
and yes i am a techno neanderthal it took me 2 days to figure how to open my bloody laptop but i'm learning.world domination will soon be within my grasp.
This reminds me of a Judge suit update art competition thread that ran a while back. Some of the ideas were complete redesigns though. I like the idea of it being upgraded whilst keeping to the fundamental schematic (if thats the correct word) or the original.
Exoskeleton suits are a cool idea, but again I'd see that as something to be broken out on specific occasions, and something only a few Judges would utilize.
By the way, that helmet is that the termight one? How is your vision through the visor? I've often thought the nose cross section would obscure central vision, pretty much in each Dredd strip I've read. Sure the visor could act as a screen relaying information in front of him but I'd see that as something that would be called up on request rather than a permanent state.

Yes, it is a Termight Replicas hemet. I asked Larry about vision on the RPF (//http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=51479) and this was his reply.
QuoteAs to vision, I'm used to driving around town with a motorcycle helmet, and, apart from the outer points of the visor peeking in at the outermost areas of my peripheral vision, I think the field of vision is quite comparable to the legal Department of Transportation-approved lid I wear now. As to the nosepiece interfering I literally don't see it at all, but I have an above-average melon: 23" around with my eyes 3" apart from pupil to pupil. Maybe I just got lucky, but this thing seems like it was made to my measurements.
So there you have it!

'fess up - how many people are measuring their heads right now?
Thanks Wake.
Looking at these Peruvian riot police is a sobering sight at how close we're getting to Dredd:

On a related topic, whatever happened to the real-life "riot foam" which was reported in 2000 a few years ago. It was really more of a gum, but same principle; sprayed out of a hose, hardened quickly to immobilise perps. Did that ever get put to use?
No no no, please don't give Dredd a new design of armour, it's really not nessary beucasue of the following points.
The leather armour worn by street judges is more than adequate, don't beleive me, ask any real biker, leather is much more effective for bike crashes and simple brawls with out being to incumbering.
The Justice Deparment already has heavy drop suits which have been shown in quite a few strips with the varient used by the Halocaust Squads being just awsome, no redesign is needed, it already exsists, only the judges only roll it out when absolutly nessesary.
A redisgn of armour is inevitably going to lead to a redesign of equipment, which again is unnecessary. The Widower assault guns used by the Megacity Judges during judgement day where just awesome and the siloette of Hersley going mental with one in an effort to hold back Sabbats Zombies will be forever etched into my mind.
Please dont add new designs, simply go through the back catalogue and complie a technical manual of all the Judges equipment so the writters and artists have proper material to guide and inspire their futur idea's, this may also help in nailing down a deffinative design for the Meat and H wagon's as these appear to be pretty random at the moment (not that this is a bad thing, the sheer wealth of idea's and design concepts for the judges vehicles has always appealed to my geeky side.)
Facial hair? Old Stoney Face will have to have words with him...
I'm not sure IATS wanted a complete re-design more a response to the horror of Dredds new outfit in next weeks PROG . Soon to be upon us like a thing thats about to leap on you like a big springy thing. Perhaps i've killed the analogy...
in reply to subsplot i mentioned a equipment tech breakdown a while ago glad someone else onboard.
anyone else?
as for a redesign why? the current one is fine just mention a few upgrades eg projectile resistant flexi all in one suit flame retardent, electro resistantand keep the decoritive symbols of office and extra pads for added protection and tuff gloves/ boots.the helmets fine leave it alone.
it is interesting to see other concepts and views tho

God
Uber facists or what. Quite scary really.
Don't forget that Dredd is comic character, designed to have a futuristic look in 1977.
So he wears a shiny armor, with a really nice and huge bird on right shoulder and a "pad" or the left.
But he has no protection for the upper body. Maybe on 22th Century any pistol bullet can punch throw any armor and he doesn't need them.
But a "Judge" or Police Officer in real life needs every possible protection he can get.
So ballistic armor is a must.
Maybe if some Nation Make real Judges, they will going to have an armor like the guy in Wake's post above.
If you are getting a man or woman with all this training on the Street, he must have the any possible protection and the best equipment.
By the way i have to add some words form Dredd's Personal Log on board Justice One in the Request for Judge Child
"Day 1 18:00
Heading out of solar system along roote taken by Angel Gang.
Crew look good, young and keen. Slight worry on Lopez
Don't like to see a Judge with facial hair"
Really it is a good armor and the guy has a great style, but when you try to make a real world version of Dredd i believe that you must also add many of his character, his "personality" his ideas and his believes.

I noticed in 'Origins' (the graphic novel compilation, that Dredd gets shot and is saved by his bullet proof vest / body armour. Presumable which he is wearing under his uniform.
I've always thought that since body armour has became common place in our world, that in the Dredd world, he could simply have a very sophisticated slimline version of it, that was less cumbersome and didn't get in the way. Like Secret Service men wear? Therefore no need to make him look like a robot.
And possibly worn at the Judges discretion, to help explain the instances when they obviously aren't wearing any.
Just a thought.
A lot easier just to buy some Ice Hockey / LaCross / American Football pads and spray them black, it would be MUCH more effective!!!!
PS Not that I ever wore mine in the riots in Southall in the 80's...........

More like Judge Morph?
Must admit panic mode over. David Roach's artwork for the strip was rather good in the end and Al Ewing 's tale was fun. Ah well my over reaction to what I assumed would be an American version of old granite face was misguided to say the least. The traditional Dredd uniform endures. Hooray!
