Title: Alien Invasion!
Post by: Subsplot on 23 October, 2008, 01:25:51 PM
Forgive me if i'm wrong but have any of the epic storylines ever dealt with something as basic as a full blown war of the worlds, I know it's been covered in long term plots where Dredd has left earth or short stories where the Judgess have foiled plots before they've really begun but all the epic stories seem to revolve around antoginists who are either human or come from alternative realities. I cant seem to remember any that deal with a truely outside and well, alien armies of antogonists. I get the feeling you've avoided this because it's so well covered in other sci fi but for some reason I can't escape the image of Dredd and battilions of Judges going toe to toe with monsters on the streets of the mega cities. Forget Judgement Day where there's hordes of zombies and only one lynch pin that needs killing, or the apocalypse war where the enermy were human (even in Necropolis the bad guys are twisted humans) go for the whole shebang and have hordes of aliens with numerouse leaders who all need judgment passing on them if the earth is ever going to be safe. This way it doen't matter how many you kill there's always going to be some left to star in follow up stories once the initial war has been won.

Judge Grampus and his pals were kinda like that, but it would be better if they over ran, Sino-Cit or Texascity then headed to MC1

Always surprises me how relatively few appearances the Kleggs have made since Day the Law Died. You'd think there'd be an awful lot still bumming around the cosmos. Not in an aggressive, ready-to-invade capacity - the beauty of the Kleggs, after all, is that they're too stupid to be ambitious - but the occasional Klegg in the Alien Zoo, for instance, or a lone mercenary bumping into Dredd during one of his space jaunts.

John Smith's 'Meatmongers' is the only example I can think of that wasn't an appearance directly referencing the events of TDTLD.

Bring the loveable buggers back!

Weren't they the main bad guys in The Corps?

They were allies with Sino City, if I may recall. Also, they had their own series entitled The Kleggs

I also remember a story with a Klegg marrying a star then eating her in a bed?

Or was I very drunk at the time....

There was a story about a 'Retarded' Klegg which was left behind when the Kleggs were hurled out of MC1 and was looked after by an elderly couple.

What with the finest rogue Judges strip ever morphing into [spoiler:21i8kcxo]Blake's Seven (pure masterstroke there, Abnett my man!),[/spoiler:21i8kcxo]Steviethinks that sometime further down the track there could be [spoiler:21i8kcxo]factions amongst the disenfranchised colonies taking the good fight back to the Meg[/spoiler:21i8kcxo].

I want Kleggs.

I don't really mind what they do.  It would just be nice to see them.  Domestic Klegg bliss in alientown.  That'd be nice.

Yeah, Kleggs rule. But Kleggs that look like Kleggs (as Bolland/ McMahon drew them) not like the spikey-nosed lithsome creatures they became in later strips.

And on that subject- Gila-Munjas! Proper Gila-Munjas, with monkey-faces and spiked tails, again, not liek the albino crocs THEY became under Frank Quietly (I think).

I seem to remember there was a full blown alien invasion at the end of the Dredd: Lawman of the Future kiddies comic. I can't remember too much about it but I wonder if that's 'cos it was cut short as the comic was cancelled?

Agreed about the original Kleggs Spooky, but I have to demur on the issue of Gila-Munja - the "albino croc" thing looked scary, the spiky monkey thing was laughable and not at all intimidating...  Just an opinion you understand.

If there isn't any Klegg on Gorilla action on the horizon for Insurrection then Stevie's gonna be disappointed!

Noooo! They didn't have hands, they had pincers! How did they piss?  Or wipe their arse?

I'm clearly losing my mind due to the heat.  I mis-read that as "bathroom brawl" - can you imagine the images that assaulted my tender, innocent mind?

If you can't then I'd be happy to discuss them.  At great length (oo-er).
