Title: Dead Space
Post by: Pete Wells on 28 October, 2008, 12:17:36 PM
Has anyone else got this yet? I have to say it's very, very good and poo pantingly scary! At the minute as I creep around the dark, bloody corridors of the spaceship I'm trapped in I can hear the spooky whisperings of my (I assume) dead girlfriend, yikes! I get the feeling that this game isn't going to end well...

The combat system is ace, as an engineer type you don't really have a gun but various power tools instead. These are used to hack and slice the limbs off the attacking nasties until they finally drop. The Zero-G sections are great too, as are the bits that take place out of the ship where you have very little oxygen.

Highly recommended!

Just completed this (hence me still being up at 3.15am!) and it was great. Slight spoiler here:
The final battle is against the Hive Mind! I felt like Sc*j*!
Also, BIG spoiler here so please don't read it until you've beaten the game:
If you look at the first letter of each chapter name it spells NICOLEISDEAD
- spooooky!

Now thats different.

Is it as scary as playing Doom Three under a sheet at night, when you are all alone in the the house and ithe wind is howling out side.

After reading about it here.

I skipped this when it came out, it just didn't appeal considering the other stuff out at the time. A mate loaned me it about a month back though during a dry spell and I was utterly blown away. It's GREAT. Love the whole Event Horizon vibe and it looks stunning. Plus it really seemed to take survival horror and refine the controls and HUD elements to bring it bang up to date. In comparison when I played Resi 5 I was hugely disappointed because compared to Dead Space it seemed like a throwback. I'm sure when I eventually get around to Silent Hill 5 I'll feel much the same. It's a real shame it apparently didn't do much business though, as it'd be great to see EA pumping their money into more great stuff like this.
