Title: Gears of War 2
Post by: Roger Godpleton on 07 November, 2008, 03:49:15 PM
Anyone else playing? Have to say the campaign doesn't exactly kick off with a bang.

How the hell do you afford all these games? I work two jobs and have avoided buying a full-price game on release day since GTA4.

They did a midnight opening at our local dvd rental place to sell this, and I made a point of being first in line so I could buy the new Naruto.
Rented GOW2, and it's a lot more enjoyable than the first one, but I haven't a clue if you'll play through it in three days like the first one.  I'd be a little disappointed if that was the case - but I'd be bloody livid if this one's missing the final three levels and end-game boss like Gears 1 was (although I heard they were on the PC version).

Is this actually any good or are you just making fun of Narutards?

Playing a bit further into campaign mode and I have to say that this rocks the shit. It seems a bit set-piecey in places but they're good set-pieces. Also the haunted-house sections tend to drag on a bit too much, but they still gve us a good pay - off.
Plus "Insides of a giant monster levels are always welcome.
It wasn't for me - my younger brother is mad about the show and says the game is pretty good.

I've just completed the first level and have been treated to that amazing, Independence Day style motivational speech - this game is cooool!

Just finished the campaign, I think the writers were a bit too conservative when it came to cramming in as many bizarre plot directions as possible.
The fight with Skorge should have been a lot better than the QTE fest we got.
Stuff what are awesome:
-Razorhail gunfight.
-Lights going off in the tank level and three corpsers being there when they go back on.
-Horde.
-That one time when me and a locust were standing adjacent to each other behind cover and I blindfired him.

Aye, just completed it too, it was brilliant! Definately one of the best games I've ever played. It reminded me of Half Life 2 with all it's great ideas and set pieces.

Have to agree about cramming a bit too much in, though I'm not complaining. The only time it felt a bit naff was
riding the Brumak so soon after riding a Reaver.
As for my fave bits:
Inside the Worm - yuck! The cutscene after was a hoot!
The HUGE monster in the lake.
I urge all 360 owners to buy it quick!

I play Horde when I can - got up to level 17 or thereabouts yesterday! I'm always up for co-op or teaming up on Horde, so give me a shout if you see me pop up online - I'm KissMammal.

Gah, just got up to Wave 33 on Horde (with only me and two other players still in the game) then I lost connection, and got a 'timed-out' message. This always seems to happen, is there any way I can stop it?

I apologise if you already knew, but if you host the game you can start from any wave you've already got up to, I don't know if that's any help.

Haven't got past 19 yet :? Whenever I come first in most of the waves I always get the most deaths in addition.

Coming late to the party on this - working my way through the pileup of games released late last year - but enjoying it, in a "well, it's just like the first one, really" kind of way.   But with more gore.

It's all very pretty - especially the underground stuff, with all those glow-in-the-dark colours getting away from the relentless deluge of grey, brown and, well, grey that's supposed to tell you games like this are really grim and gritty.

The dialogue's well ripe, espcially when growled out from deep down the bull-necked throats of all those Space Marines from Planet Testosterone.  And it's all supposed to be so very grim and serious.

So that's Tomb Raider Underworld, Battlefield: Bad Company, Star Wars Force Unleashed, Mercenaries 2 and Saint's Row 2 all done, with GoW2 and Dead Space still to go.

And you can always tell the Missus that it counts as research for you as well.

Clever git.

You'd never catch me getting someone to produce 5 pages of brilliant comic art for me to submit to HEAV METAL (and be rejected but hey, more people probably read it in FUTUREQUAKE) and have it listed as Corporate Logos and Art in the Company Books. Oh no.

GOW 2
was considering this, was holding out until the price dropped but word is the award of game of the year and so forth could be going its way for the last years realeases, which would keep it out of the discount circle.

may take the plunge based on the comments here.

Loved this, but unable to play online until BT come and sort out my interwebs.

Also, don't anyone buy the additional maps and DLC, there's apparently a disc release coming fairly soon which will include all the DLC plus some new single player stuff for about £15. Aces.

Can you only host private matches (ie matches where you either invite friends to play if you have them, or go it alone which isn't much fun) ?
