which one is worth a fistful of my groats then?
GOW 2
COD (world at war)
saints row 2
silent hill (lastest installement)
FEAR
five currently top titles, none of which are likely to be discounted soon. which one in comparison has the balanced game play in both single player and LIVE (360)...
i read the reviews here, all good, but wish for some indicatoin on where to invest this month.
rarely has the hive mind failed me on such things.

Here's my list which is limited to P.C games as I can't afford the dizzy expense of a X-BOX or Playstation 3.
1 HALF LIFE-The daddy of 'em all bar none.
2.FARCRY/HALO-Both still great despite the age.
3.DOOM 3 Scary,violent, unrelenting. What more could you ask?
4.OPERATION FLASHPOINT-Soldier sim that's hard to beat. O.P 2 Dragon Rising out this year hopefully.
5. HALF LIFE 2 -Great but made me feel ill playing it.
6;F.E.A.R Another bloodbath but very creepy.
Wolfenstein's still good fun and I think a new version of that will be out soon.

Gears 2 is fantastic, or if thats not really your bag, the new COD is quite good. Playing it now! Of the others....Saints 2 is pretty crappy. The reviews of silent hill have been a bit meh also. FEAR...not sure.

I'm playing through the original FEAR games right now, and frankly, it'll shit you up. Awesome game - incredible fight sequences and masterful creation of a scary-ass story.

1) Half Life (the original and the best)

3) Bio-shock
4) Civilisation
All for the PC, although I don't play that many games. I'm a fickle person so the above list is subject to constant change!

I can highly recommend Gears 2. I liked the first one, but I just found the second one just blew me away - I'd actually say one of the best games I've ever played. I played it so much I ended up finishing it on the hardest setting in single player, something which I never normally have the patience (or skills) to do.
As for the online mode, I generally find death match style games extremely dull, so stayed away from that side, but luckily GOW2 has a great co-op mode, and Horde is a blast.
As for the others on your list, I haven't played FEAR, Silent Hill is not my cup of tea, Saints Row 2 is a lame GTA rip off, and I find the COD games (in single player, at least) very overrated.

FEAR is well ancient so you could prolly pick it up for like 10p. I'd go for Gears 2.

Silent Hill: Homecoming is my favorite game out of that list. Of course, I'm a big fan of the series, and I enjoy the ambiance and quality story.

2 BEST PC GAMES IN MONTHS
FALLOUT 3 third person RPG very long if you play it right and has great replayability, best thing since MASS EFFECT
LEFT 4 DEAD. ONLINE REQUIRED ok so at the moment there are only 4 movies ( levels) there are more coming, but this is the most fun multiplayer shooter in years. VALVE hits the spot again. VS mode online is awsome, alternate between Survivors and special ZOMBIEs, how cool is it you get to play infected/undead.
ITS not graphically the best but its a true great players game and with future FREE content on PC from Steam/Valve its awsome
