Hope you dont mind but I need some on advise on ebay.
I won an auction for some comics which had postage listed for Ireland. I paid promptly and after a while i got a mail saying that the comics were Posted. Got another mail after a while saying comics were not posted as the postage was going to cost more.
I won the auction cheap, so I suggested going halves on the extra post. I got a reply saying that unless I paid the whole extra post the comics would not be sent.
I sent an email back saying that i didnt have to agree to the extra post but on trying to be reasonable I would let the offer stand, or else I would have no alternative to report it to ebay.
Got an mail back with a request to cancel the auction, and if I still wanted the comics the would contribute a third to the post.
DoI have to agree to the cancellation of the auction? Can I demand that the comics be sent as won on the auction? Should I just bite the bullet and save my own annoyance and agree to the cancellation.
Advise and opinions appreciated.
Cheers
David
Nope, you shouldn't pay it and the seller is in a binding agreement to send it to you - not your fault he/she mispriced the postage. Just send the seller and email stating that you will file a grievence with ebay, and if he doesn't respond or continues to refuse to send your comics, file away!
make sure you do it quickly as e-bay has a habit of not doing anything after a certain time, off the top of my head 30 days.
Once had something similar happen and the person kept e-mailing me so often that I waited and in the end e-bay said because I hadnt complained soon enough they wouldnt do anything.
Like was said above the Ebay auction is a binding agreement.
First of all the seller confirmed the items had been sent which was obviously a lie because they then says that they havent been sent.
If the seller wanted to increase the cost of postage then they could have handled it a bit better and then to add insult to injury they then withhold the comics that you have *already paid for* unless you pay the extra costs which amounts to extortion and is illegal under Ebays terms and conditions.
They could have asked for the extra postage costs which you could have agreed to as that is subject to your own disgression but to demand them is unreasonable.even more unreasonable if you consider the discrepancy in costs is minimal. You made a reasonable offer to offset their mistake but they refused it.
Absolutly do not agree to cancel the auction.
Send them another email that makes it clear that you have no choice to report this to Ebay *unless* they send you the comics that you have paid for.
They had their chance to accept your offer of paying extra costs and they threw it away.
You have a responsibility to do this or they will try it again with other buyers.
Its their tough shit basically.
If you paid by PayPal you can open a dispute (or whatever its called).
I did this with an auction for a phone.. phone was sold 'as new' but arrived like it had been kicked across a football field.
The disput effectively froze their paypal account and as a result the seller soon gave in and i got a full refund.
Contact ebay as soon as possible to report what has happened.
And remind the seller that the final price is just that and if they don't send the comics you will report them to ebay and in all likleyhood they will get banned... it might not happen but a threat never does any harm!
Any update on your ebay plight, sir? Did it work out for good or for ill?
Yeah any more news?
