There'll be some teething pains as always I'm sure, avatars included. Will continue to iron them out but give us a shout here and we'll get on them when we can

aaaagh! where's the ACTIVE TOPICS button?
Might be a safari specific issue, dunno, but the Home / Help / Search / ... / Logout are all superimposed over the search box for me.
Also: it's all strange and unfamiliar, I'm scared, won't somebody hold me...?
-pj
Thank god for that, my computer machine kept telling me I was FORBIDDEN, got a little worried for a while. What the funt do all these buttons do?

It's ok, pj, it's ok. I'm here. I'm holding you. I'm scared too. But it's ok. we'll get through this together.
AGHHHHH, change!!!!
Some of this writing is extremely small young man, is there a version with larger print?
what's this button for?
Oh.
Dang! I think it's going to take me some time to get used to the new layout.
Also, can't we cover up spoilers anymore?
Owwwhhh shiney and new. Exciting
When are we going to have the 2000AD gallery back for avatars? I've broken mine.
Good stuff - I looked at a lot of forums a while back and SMF was head and shoulders the best of the bunch. Crank the captcha code up to maximum and it really cuts the spammers down to a trickle. I mentioned the Stop Forum Spam plugin on the spam thread and there is one for SMF too - if the user details get a hit from the SFS database it requires the account to need activation - which should cut the spammers right down.
"View Unread posts" doesn't seem to be working. Unless it means unread by anyone, rather than just by me which is what I assumed.

Well, it brought back one topic that time and, sure enough, it had 0 views.
Colours: Can we have some better way of differentiating between one post and the next - they tend to run on each other a bit, since it's all white on pale grey (which is nice, but the pale grey is a little too pale.)

Hi, how do I get my avatar back? Also, none of the posts I made today (4 or 5) or the new topic on books I started survived the move. Any chance of getting those back?
The black background was easier on the eyes, I'm sorry to say. New place feels a bit bare without it. Good luck with the new site though.
My ignore file seems to have gone somewhere and now I can see hundreds of posts that I would rather not.
And I can see spoilers.
But other than that, it looks nice. Thnaks for your hard work.
At least I can still post in BLUE :-\
Ooooh, exciting! Can we post pictures bigger than 700 pixels or are we still limited?
I will be very peeved if the "active topics" link is gone forever - I can't be arsed checking every category for new posts - i always kept active topics as my homepage so I could have it on in background and just click refresh any time to check for anything new.
And If I click "marquee", will a big tent be added to my post?
And without wanting to be too picky, it's hard to separate one post from the next as it's white-on white with no borders

If you have your avatar stored on photobucket like i do then all you have to do is go to your profile section and click on "Forum profile information" then go to "I have my own pic" option.
Copy ,Cut and paste the "Direct link" from the image on photobucket into the "I have my own pic" option and then click on "change profile" and your avatar should upload instantly.
Thats what i just did.
I've found the rather surreal avatar section, and having considered Alanis Morisette, I've decided to be Bob Marley for a little while.
Some of the moderator functions don't seem to be available.
There were (already) some pornographic posts - which I managed to remove, however I couldn't ban the user from posting again.
AARRGHHH! EVERYTHING'S DIFFERENT! MELTDOWN! MELTDOWN!
Just posting to say- hmm. Where are all the "new posts"- I used to use the that page as my starting point- and to see if I've kept my avatar.

Ah, obviously no avatar! Can I have mine back please?

Same for me DDD.
Judge Lamia is the new board moderator. We're all dead.
Hmm... I thought this board was meant to have less spam than the last one? So far, it seems to have three times as much...
Ahh! This new red/beige/white layout isn't that great guys... Can we have the old one back, or at least one that doesn't hurt my eyes?
I think some of these spammers are signing up manually the same as everyone else does.
Persistent little F*******.
Did anyone see the Russian Lesbian Pornography earlier ?
One way in has been closed but its impossible to stop completely .
It looks like the SFX forum (which I imagine with Rebellion being DeathRay publishers is possibly deliberate), but rougher around the edges and a bit half-finished looking, but I put that impression down to the colour scheme. It's kind of bland, and the loss of an active topics option seems odd.
Change is good only when it brings something better, imo.

Guess it will take time to get used to it.
Although I agree it does seem to blend together and makes it harder to see where one post ends and another starts.
And please bring back view active threads...
I gotta say guys, I love the people here at the 2000AD forums, but I can't continue here with this layout... It's a little frustrating.
The only good reason to change the forum layout is if it stops spam. We've all ready heard from one of the moderators that his options on that front are less than they were on the old forum. How is that an improvement? I didn't see any spam on the old forum at all. Now I'm seeing it for the first time - and not liking it.
Can we revert?
Yeah ... I appreciate that something like this is always a thankless task for those who have to implement it, but there are a number of things that will actively keep me off this board, which surely defeats the point of a re-vamp?
1) Active Topics - sorry, I'm not clicking through every category heading to see what the newest post is. We need this back ASAP.
2) Colour scheme - as previously noted, it's very hard to see where one post ends and the next begins. We need a darker grey, I think.
3) Like PJ says - is it just a Safari bug, but top right of my screen shows Home / Help / Search and then a whole bunch of stuff all piled up on top of each other. Actually, it is a Safari issue, because it works OK in Firefox:
Firefox:
Safari:
Nonetheless, Safari is supposed to be a pretty standards-compliant browser, so it's strange that it can't correctly render this part of the layout ...
4) Spoiler tags: may not seem like a big deal, but they were used extensively here.
5) AAAAH! My fucking killfile doesn't work!
Cheers

Overall all though nice job and I'm happy with the new (well I've just noticed them) posting formatting options.
Bloody hell guys, calm down. What's with all this "If it doesn't happen I'm outta here!" malarkey? I did say I'd get on it, we'll tailor to your needs as always.
Anyways, some of the stuff didn't transfer from when we were doing it locally to online. I.e. the layout for one, went a bit screwy. I can always do more themes, if you like the old one and want that back for example. I've just changed the grey, which completely wiped, so the posts are distinguishable.
This elusive "Active Topics" not the same as "View unread posts" I take it, so what does it list? Remind me and I'll sort a version no biggy.
There's actually 2 big reasons for changing, which I thought I'd mention particularly for the stuffy sorts (it makes me laugh particularly the theme seeing as some of you hated the last one...we'll never win). 1) SMF has a lot more useful plugins and stuff we can add to sort out a variety of things including spam. 2) We can pull information out of the database a lot more easily than phpbb...which we're going to need soon.
I noticed the spam had a sudden crank up, but yeah there'll always be manual ones as well (seeing as captcha's on this). But yeah, we'll keep adding things until they piss off....
Do not like.
Need a recent posts button. If there is one, please tell me where it is.
Also.... why would I need to have text scrolling across the screen, what is the point of that?
Ahh...I have my badge back. All is right with the world.
-Bouwel-
Uncle - it's up the top below the logo called "View unread posts"
I quite all the different stats showing when I post most and where.
Not sure if this the right place to discuss it, but do you think it wound be a good idea to make the Hot dang doodle and the current art comp threads sticky threads?
[spoiler]this is some spoiler text[/spoiler]
I am on Firefox and i am getting the overlapped bit on the top right of the screen as well.
I think that this is an inprovement nonetheless as before it used to take an age to refresh and upload a post wheras now its very very fast.
Please reinstate the view active topics option that used to list the threads in descending order according to recent activity with the most recently posted to thread at the top of it otherwise we are just looking at an index which isnt the same thing.
Thryllseeker posted a topic about an artists book yesterday .
Damned if i can find it now.
Posted with gratitude for your hard work and without a pissy attitude.
Thanks.
Weird on the overlap, will look into that. Kinda the problem with a lot of these forum packages is they're usually a mess when it comes to making a new theme. I'm using firefox and IE and it's not happening here, so will get some older versions to see if it's that...well, safari will probably the one to fix and should resolve them across the browsers.
So, could you let me know the differences between "view unread posts" and "view active topics" as they kinda sound the same still. The "view unread posts" link takes you to a list of recently updated posts, or activity that's happening within a topic?
Cheers
But as the man said, where's the active topics button? This is scary for me. I've still got my Kroom Skree icon, and I don't like change.

Yeah but as this man said, I still need to know the difference between that and the "view unread posts" link to be able to help :-\
As far as I understand it, "view active topics" rearranges ALL the topics in order of how recently they have been added to. So, posting a messages on a thread would move it immediately to the top of the "active topics" list.
Yeah that's what view unread posts does as well!? :-\

Stats fixed now
"View Unread topics" = show all topics where the current user has not read the latest post.
"View Active Topics" = show all topics which have been posted on within x days (I think it was a week) irrespective of whether I've read it or not. Useful for going back to check out something you read a couple of hours/days ago because we've all gotten used to doing it that way so have no idea which sub-forum anything's posted on.
Anyway, good job on the move and sorting the backgrounds. Like peterwolf says, everything seems to load slightly quicker but that could just be perception.
Once you've fixed all that, I've having some problems with some constant exchange rates that you might want to take a look at.
Ohhh getcha, ok that sounds dooable. Might have to sort that out Monday mind, don't have all the access I need from home...boo

Yeah ... that's it. I was struggling to articulate what was missing from the "Unread Posts" option, so thanks, Cosh.
Also: sorry, w3bz, if I was one of the posters who came across as a bit brusque. I did preface my comments with an acknowledgement that this sort of thing is always thankless, but, nonetheless, if I came across as stroppy, this wasn't my intention.

Also how do i get my avatar back on ? thanks !
First of all, thanks for all your hard work W3bz.
You'll have to excuse me if this a bit of a simpletons question, but is there any way of widening things out a bit? Everything seems to be a bit cramped up horizontally. I appreciate that Rebellion want to bring their range of fantastical novels to our attention but can't the Abaddon Books ad move over to the right a tad?
The other thing is that on the home page for the forum I really am having trouble reading the very small script in the post history box of each section. Any chance of making them slightly bigger?
When you get a chance of course fella.
The darker grey background to the posts is much better.

You should be able to upload it via your profile again. Sorry about that, some of them didn't make it :-[

working on the weekend eh?
Fucking scab!

I'm with the black background posse- this white looks a bit basic. Is alternating between lighter and darker backgrounds an option for differentiating between posts?
I don't like the Abaddon ad down the side- is it possible to make it horizontal at the top or bottom instead? Everything looks pretty squashed up to the left and once you scroll down past the ad it seems like there is tons of wasted space which we could fill with absolute shite!
I liked the pics at the side on the last board- even though I could only see a little portion of them!
I realise, of course, that it will take a bit of time to tweak things, so a big thanks for putting up with our moanin an' greetin' (once again).
What's an 'FTP' link- is it some sort of anti-catholic bigotry?
What is teletype- is it what teletubbies do on their forum?
Quote from: Dog Deever on 11 July, 2009, 08:19:58 PMWhat's an 'FTP' link- is it some sort of anti-catholic bigotry?
I've been working with "computers and that" in Central Scotland for quite some time now and I still snigger to myself every time someone mentions File Transfer Protocol.
I for one enjoyed all the lovely chaos the move caused. Several times I felt panic-striken by the newness of it all - and smiled when I realized so many others were feeling the exact same way.
Yeah I was worried that without the 'active posts' button I would not have time to be here anymore. But the unread thing is nearly as good once you clear the backlog.
Nice one W3bz, appreciated.
since the new look I have only just managed to log back in, the new look preventing me from auto log in >:(. Having forgot my password I just spent ages looking for where I noted it down. The auto response for forgotten password not replying to my email address. So there may be many more of us out there unable to log back on because of this. I was lucky as I found the tatty piece of paper folded up in a folder full of tatty old folded up paper with all sorts of crap and nonsense.

Any chance of having that feature whereby when you pause the mouse on the thread title it pops up a floating box that gives you the first few lines of the message? I find I use that a lot on other forums to save time in working out what I want to read. Also useful for avoiding spam, I find.

I've just found I can edit posts from over a year ago, even ones that have been replied to. The old time limit was a bit short, but is this unlimited edit a good thing? Do we want the power to rewrite history to this extent? How many entertaining beer-soaked early morning rants will we lose if people get to tidy things up and remove all the outrageous bits when they're sober?

I dont know if being able to historically revise your own posts is a good thing or a bad thing.Personally i dont have the inclination as for better or for worse they will stay as they are as whats gone has gone.
Its nice to have longer to do it for longer after you have posted something as it will negate the need to double or triple posting if you forgot to say something in your post.

I think it's a bad thing. A bit like being able to redact your own history. It will inevitably lead to a lazy I-can-get-away-with-saying-anything attitude as you can always go back and change things later. Much later in this case. Also allows for too much distortion of the truth.
I believe it is much better to encourage people to think more deeply about what they want to say and how they want to say it in the first place. You should stand or fall by what you say.

But what kind of buffoon would come in pissed out their head at three in the morning and start posting on an internet forum?
Oh yes, I remember now...
Definitely a bad thing, unless you go back through all the old Prog review threads changing it to look like you always guessed what was going to happen.

Phew, that's that done at last. I've just gone back through all 5K of my unbearably tedious posts and edited them to make myself appear witty, urbane and prescient. Now when a future historian of squaxxdom reviews the archives of this board, he'll realise what a really great chap I could have been.

Ah, no problem. Whatever it was seems to have righted itself...
Is there some sort of timing issue with the "Unread posts"? I ask because I'm getting no results from it, yet when I go into the subforums there are a number of "NEW" posts in each one. There's a strong possibility that most of these are timestamped earlier than a post I have read.
Also, when you've got a spare minute, I notice that URLs aren't differentiated from standard text. Fine if you've just pasted the address but not when you've cleverly/irritatingly (delete according to taste) integrated it into a sentence.
My god w3bz, did you go outside at all this weekend? There was plenty of sun to warm up your cold metal exterior.
Hello everyone, my name is VinceBot and I'll be your forum/website coder for the duration of this visit.
Sorry for some of the issues you're experiencing, we wanted to get this new forum online pretty sharpish, though in retrospect rolling this out on a Friday afternoon may have been a miscalculation. Dividing by zero and all that.

This seem to be related to the migration and how SMF tracks unread posts. When viewing the "View Unread Posts" page you'll see no new posts, but when viewing individual subforums you'll see all threads as having new posts.
The simplest solution would be for me to add the appropriate database entries to reset everyones "unread posts" values, but I'll see if I can come up with a slightly better solution which doesn't involve modifying data for people who aren't experience the issue.

Automatic URL parsingQuote from: The Cosh on 12 July, 2009, 11:25:19 PM
Also, when you've got a spare minute, I notice that URLs aren't differentiated from standard text. Fine if you've just pasted the address but not when you've cleverly/irritatingly (delete according to taste) integrated it into a sentence.
I assume this in reference to the auto-parsing or URLs in posts, whereby any url detected, for instance google.com, will be parsed into a linked equivilent? Is the complaint that the URL
is parsed, or that it is
not parsed?
In my brief testing, writing "google.com" does nothing, but "www.google.com" creates the expected link and is less likely to create false positives where badly constructed sentences may get converted into bad URLs.

No offence to whoever built it, it's certainly better than anything i could do, but it still looks horrible.
Sorry to be Mr Negative... :(
I'm not a huge fan of the PhpBB3 style much myself either, despite the supposed usability theory behind it. We decided to use this theme however as it makes the place look less like a generic SMF forum and should reduce the teething problems for you guys when you're expecting things to look one way but infact are entirely different.
Any issues you come across with themes should be directed at w3bz as he's the one in charge of that barrel of laughs.

since the new look I have only just managed to log back in, the new look preventing me from auto log in >:(. Having forgot my password I just spent ages looking for where I noted it down. The auto response for forgotten password not replying to my email address.
Sorry to hear of your plight, we had no idea the emails weren't firing off. Unfortunately the "keep me logged in" data is wildly different between PhpBB and SMF, so theres nothing we can do but force people to log back in.
Fortunately its more than just a new look, so you will eventually see enhanced features and security brought to the new forums.

I used to be able to click on a poster's profile and select "Ignore Posts From This User" ... I'm pretty sure there are a few people who used this feature on me.
I'll have a look for a mod for this as I'd be suprised if one didn't exist, then I can start using it on people who make feature requests.
Moderator functions and privilegesQuote from: ukdane on 10 July, 2009, 09:06:20 PM
Some of the moderator functions don't seem to be available.
There were (already) some pornographic posts - which I managed to remove, however I couldn't ban the user from posting again.
Sorry about that - is this still the issue? I was unsure of what privileges Moderators had on the old board. Can you clarify on what appears to be missing?
Spam FilteringQuote from: Emperor on 10 July, 2009, 07:29:59 PM
Good stuff - I looked at a lot of forums a while back and SMF was head and shoulders the best of the bunch. Crank the captcha code up to maximum and it really cuts the spammers down to a trickle. I mentioned the Stop Forum Spam plugin on the spam thread and there is one for SMF too - if the user details get a hit from the SFS database it requires the account to need activation - which should cut the spammers right down.
This sounds like a great idea. I'll have a look for that mod and see about getting it applied.
RanksQuote from: dandontdare on 12 July, 2009, 11:07:42 AM
And have the rankings been adjusted? Not that I'm complaining mind, since I'm now a posting machine, but I could've sworn I was a sentient tea-bot last week!
Yeah sorry, this was me. I noticed a few users had breached the 10,000 posts mark and our rankings only went up to 5000, so I tried to both stretch it out and make the first rank change a little lower to encourage new users.
To clarify the current ranks without spoiling the names:
Posts Required | Members in bracket |
0 | 47651 |
10 | 443 |
100 | 108 |
250 | 54 |
500 | 44 |
1000 | 56 |
2000 | 10 |
2500 | 31 |
5000 | 18 |
10000 | 2 |
If people think its a good idea I may redo the rankins with some new names that would hopefully reflect their post count a little better.
Migration reasonsQuote from: peterwolf on 11 July, 2009, 11:55:19 AM
I think that this is an inprovement nonetheless as before it used to take an age to refresh and upload a post wheras now its very very fast.
This was one of the big reasons for upgrading - PhpBB3 around the 200,000 posts mark becomes sluggish to produce pages. When we hit 400,000 posts on here the database was 400mb.
Thus far, SMF has been pretty snappy with 400,000 posts, and the databases size has been halfed.
Elusive "View Active Topics" PageEveryone seems up in arms over the loss of this feature, and while it'll probably be a little time conusming to implement it'll hopefully be worth it, right? right?
Quote from: The Cosh on 11 July, 2009, 01:42:42 PM
"View Active Topics" = show all topics which have been posted on within x days (I think it was a week) irrespective of whether I've read it or not. Useful for going back to check out something you read a couple of hours/days ago because we've all gotten used to doing it that way so have no idea which sub-forum anything's posted on.
To clarify then, you're saying the Active Topics list consists of:
- Thread must have a post made within the last X days
- Thread list ordered by whichever had the most recent reply
- List is unaffected by if you've read the thread/post or not
Remember kids; be cool, stay in school.Unless you're thinking about university in which case stop using up all my tax money.
QuoteTo clarify then, you're saying the Active Topics list consists of:

This is it in a nutshell.
I think a significant number of us had the "Active Topics" search bookmarked as the default start point for this board (I know I did) and so never gave any thought to which of the sub-forums any of the threads actually occupied. This means that -- without the Active Topics button -- it's a bit of a pain re-visiting a thread you know that you've posted to if no-one else has posted to it after you have.
Seven days would seem to be a workable value for x, unless anyone disagrees?
Cheers
Jim
Ditto what Jim says, that function gives you a easy quick view of what's been posted and by who, please bring it on home
Thanks guys, I'll see what I can do.

No, I'm unaware of any auto-parsing. Previously, any text entered between URL tags would display as blue to differentiate it from the text around it. Now the link text appears identical to the surrounding text. See two posts above this for an example.
Oh right, that makes more sense.

Ignore User icon which appears underneath a posters avatar.
To un-ignore someone, click the (http://2000adonline.com/forum/Themes/2000ad/images/buttons/ignore_off.gif)
Unignore User icon.
No, you can't ignore forum staff.
When you ignore someone, the space for their post will still appear with a "show/hide" option if you wish to actually view their post and take a look without having to unignore them.
There also exists an "Ignore User Options" page in your profile which will allow you to view or modify your ignore list.
I had to make some changes to the mod which handles ignoring users as it was out of date and incompatible with this theme, so please tell me if you run into any problems with it.
Sorry, did someone say something? ;)

Interesting to see how quickly this new iteration went from nauseating futsie-inducing chaos (Ahhh! Ahhh! Slight change! Aaaahhhh!) to good ol' functionally vanilla in just a few days. Great job, chaps, keep it up.
I briefly resent my demotion from CALL ME KENNETH back to Bionic Fingers, but on the plus side 4950 more posts about my vas deferns and how much I hate Greg Land is surely something to aim for!

but for now...
:D :D Wheeeeeeeeeee! :D :D
Please install a View /active posts function purlease.
Its like the view unread topics function except what happens is the topic that has just been started or posted to goes to the top of a never ending list of posts that were posted or replied to previously to your new post. You scroll down the pages of posts that were posted to an hour ago or 24 hours ago or whenever.
What is happening here and what is happening to everyone else is that a topic that i have clicked on to read a post in is automatically filed away into its appropriate section so if i want to read that post again i have to go back to the board index to find it if i want to read it again which is a pain or wait for it to reappear in the view unread posts section.
This is all well and good but it needs to exist alongside a view active topics function instead of replacing it as it is not a replacement as its not the same thing.
Its a list of posts that are listed in descending order defined by most recent activity.

This is exactly the problem right now - it's no good to merely replace the
Unread Topics with an
Active Topics list, they both need to exist at the same time.
Currently I'm tracking down which portions of SMFs code generates the
Unread Posts list. Once I have this figured out it should be relatively simple to develop a modification which gives us the Active Topics functionality. The hardest part in the whole process is figuring out how SMFs code generates the page.

If you drag and drop your GIF onto firefox and it plays, it should still play when uploaded here.
If your GIF is bigger than 128x128 pixels then SMF will attempt to resize the image, but this means it'll be re-encoded as a static JPEG or PNG.

Ahh, thank you - I blame it on Kerrin and all his talk of 300x300 avatar designs! - I've tried a new animated one at 128x128 and it seems to work now.
One more teensy niggle, no biggie - When a new reply was opened, you used to be able to highlight a single line in someone's post and hit quote and only that line would be quoted - now it seems (unless I'm missing summat!) you can only quote the whole thing and then have to delete the unwanted bits - as I said, not a huge problem, but slightly less convenient.
I'll permit you 20 mins in a sleep machine before you fix that one! :)
What size of avatar can we now import from photobucket etc? I'm guessing it's more than 300x300 with all the new whizzbangery.
Let's have a look. This avatar is linked to a large picture on Photobucket.

Don't think it is, though. CMK rank used to be 5K posts - now it's 10K. Which is what we call a challenge round these parts! What might be nice is some sub-levels between Bionic Fingers and Call Me Kenneth - even one at 7,500 (TerraMek? Nero Narcos? Captain Skank)?
And we have 'Active topics'! Excellent job. Personally I'd be happy to lose view unread posts. Active topics shows a new tag when the posts are unread.

Active Topics UpdateYes indeedy, I've just finished wading around inside the gubbins of SMF and I've come back with a prize - the View Active Topics list! Its available from the top left of your screen around where the other lists can be accessed.
It's a little slow at times (0.4s rather than the desires 0.06) but it seems to do the job. Give it a go, see what you think.
Currently it only lists threads with replies posted within the last two days. Is this going to be enough for some of you? Currently that's three whole pages of thread titles for you to check out.
Nice to have active topics back, but there's nothing to differentiate between read/unread posts - I always used to check out the red (unread) posts in order of interest, and scrolling down to the first black (read) one in the list showed me where I last logged off. Now they all have black lines in a red border.
I hate to be so picky, but you guys are doing so much hard work getting things just the way we like it, seems a shame to waste the opportunity!

And we have 'Active topics'! Excellent job. Personally I'd be happy to lose view unread posts. Active topics shows a new tag when the posts are unread.
BTW, I wouldn't have been able to easily find this topic to post to it without active topics, since I'd already read it up to date.

Yes we'll probably add some sub ranks in at some point.

Wow.
Reinstated Active topics !
Top class work and top marks to yourselves for that.

There we go, think I've fixed it now. You should see the new icon on any threads you haven't visited, or that contain new posts since you last viewed said thread.

I've modified the avatar upload process to not call an instance of SMF just to load everyones avatars. This should save us some processing and speed the place up a touch.
You guys probably won't notice any difference.
Huzzah for Active Topics! And Vince! And Webz!
I must say I approve of the large avatar max size. I didn't like the stupidly small size every one else voted for on the last forum. You can really see the effort some people have gone to with their avatars without having to squint your eyes. Magic.
I don't like View Active Topics. Please remove it.
Just kidding. Nice work.

I've rearranged the avatars directory to incorperate the ones I pulled off the old forum. Now you've got some predefined ones available again:
Characters
Mobiload (?)
old_icons (?)
The directories were kind of a mess, so hopefully everythings there that people want.
Please could you make it so that the Active Topics links works when you aren't logged on. If I come to the board via a bookmark I tend to find myself logged off and so at the moment I have to log back on before I can start reading the active topics, even if I don't want to post.

I like the new toys, but at the cost of losing the automatic commands for Quotations, URLs, and I think there was something else missing.
Threads no longer have the authors name and time and date of posting written at the top. Making it alittle more difficult for me to Quote properly.
SHADOWS Didn't work the first time I used them on the "Wacko Jacko and Wimbelton" thread. So, I edited that part out..... :D
Just today, as I typed "SLAINE" into the search engine on this site. I was faced with what was being said about him back in 2002 and when checked the last page. I was then faced with what was being said about him in 2004. So, I think there's problem there, unless you like it that way.
Damn glad that I don't need to copy threads and save them to note pad and login in evry half hour. Although the time continuim on this forum appaers to be running on slower time. As it's telling me right now that I have been logged in for two hours and forty eight minutes after being logged in for the last three days atleast.

Ok was going to disect the post but I seem to need to comment on quite a bit. The automatic commands for Quotations and URLs while posting? They're there. Hover over the buttons and you'll find them. Posts have the timestamp, but you want their name there as well? Considering it's right next to the post? I slapped Vince about a bit yesterday to make a change so that a small avatar icon will appear next to the post on the front (And possible in active topics list) which I'd hope would help you out more. Will have a play with the search and see what it's doing. It might simply have been that SLAINE was mentioned more in the 2002 post than the 2004 one hence relevency. Changing it so it's just chronological doesn't always work out for the best. Not sure about the whole time thing, the one at work has been saying I've been logged in for about 24 hours ::)

Yeah, serching is a little unreliable right now. Posts are ordered by relevance (frequency of results) rather than date, so thats why the order seems weird.

The forum will only track online time from the period your browsing session began, no matter how long you've been logged in. I think if it doesn't receive a fresh page request from a user within 10 minutes (guess) it considers you to have browsed away from the site. Any subsequent page visits are a new session.

You are aware that each post has a (http://2000adonline.com/forum/Themes/2000ad/images/buttons/quote.gif)

You can also scroll down when creating a reply to see a number of previous posts, and they each have a handy

- Last login time was before 2009-01-01
Of 48421 users this criteria deleted 45525 users.
Of the remaining 2896 users:
- 475 have never posted (likely spam bots).
- 740 have more than 10 posts.
- 329 of those 740 users have logged in since the start of 2009.
- 219 of those 329 users have logged in within the last month.

Cheers, Kerrin! Stickle's back!
I'm already getting used to the new look and everything seems to work fine now too! The only problem is that everyone (me included) has gone avatar crazy and seem to be changing on a daily basis! I can't get used to Mr Godpleton as a girl when we all know he's a little yellow robot!
has anyone checked out the suer stats? Interesting to see what time of day people post. I like trying to guess who's unemployed, who's posting at work and who likes a late rant at beer o'clock!
Not sure if this has been brought up previously, but I'm clearly too lazy to read this whole thread back and check: on both Firefox and Chrome I'm getting the links at the top of the board (for home, help, search etc) all skadged over to the right, and in some cases on top of other stuff, like the fancy search box.
EDIT: It seems, after fiddling with my profile settings, that everything which isn't actual board is skadged over to the right.

I think w3bz is working on a fix for this which will feature primarily in the new blue theme then hopefully transfer onto this one. This issue currently affects most browsers.
As far as I'm aware its because the old HTML code for the top and bottom of the page is horrendous, so he's decided to rewrite it cleanly, which is a lot of work. Isn't that good of him.

The original version of this forum had a 32x32 pixel avatar limit. One big advantage of that was that it was usually still recognisable when reduced to 16x16 in the Active Topics list and chat room.
The 32x32 pixel icons still get plenty of use on BARNEY (http://www.2000ad.org/?choice=droid&page=links).

One thing I'd like to flag for a future tweak is adding a link to your personal message folder. I've not yet managed to find a way into it (although I might be missing it).
I was about to say check the menu at the top next to the PROFILE link, but it seems to have vanished! I swear there was a "my messages" link there yesterday!
ARGH! I'VE LOST ALL MY MESSAGES! I can't even find how to get to the ones I've already sent, let alone any that people may have sent me! Where's the link??

It was there til about midday, but then disappeared. Luckily, I had gotten the address I needed just before the messages vanished :o!
If you click on anyone's PM button, the post it opens also has links next to it to view your inbox and outbox - this is currently the only way I've found to get into my messages at all! Just remember not to send the blank message!

I gotto get me a new avatar picture but I'm not so good at self portraits, even charictures pictures. Though I am seriuosly considering this as my current one isn't accurately descrptive of me. Not that it matters but I think I would like to try something more themattic.
Anyway, thee boaard has gone along since the days I was just lurking in 2004.
We would appear to have lost the ability to save a draft of a post. There used to be a button by 'post' and 'preview' that let you do this. I found it useful on a couple of occasions, especially when wittering on at length, to avoid getting timed out, also if midpost I had to go out for whatever reason. Any chance of a similar feature on the new model forum?
Good shout, will look into it ;)
Just noting that spoiler tags/button don't do anything constructive (under Safari at least), other than bolding, underline and turning the text blue, which wasn't really what I had in mind.

Done!
can you ask your friend whether this vulnerability has anything to do with the Master Password? I've been growing increasingly paranoid over the last week or two - I'm used to having to re-enter my password as I'm a kak-handed git, but lately no matter how careful I've been, I have always had to enter the password exactly twice. As this system remembers my passwords for just about everything else I do, it's been worrying me a bit.
And I have now found the pics in question, but only by altering my resolution to crazy proportions, so I'll leave it as it is - quite like the minimalism actually!
I think I'm going to find the "total time logged in" figure rather depressing! I'm already up to 1 day 3hours and 47 minutes! I KNOW I'm frittering my life away thankyouverymuch, I don't need a reminder constantly staring me in the face!

Oh... Then in that case I don't see it.

Why cant i cut and past and insert quotes from someone elses post into mine ?
Every time i do this i end up with their entire post instead of just the particular sentence that i want and that i just highlighted in blue and its infuriating. Its not like i dont know how to cut and paste as i have done it a thousand times at least if not more.
Everyone else seems top have no problem but as usual i do and i dont know why.
I drag my cursor over their text so it highlights the particular quote i want in blue and then click on 'insert quote' and Bingo !! there goes their entire post into my 'post reply' box without fail every time.

The method you're using doesn't work on these forums. I think everyone else is just inserting the quote they're after (the whole post) and then deleting the portion of the quote they have no need for.
We don't have any plans to add the select-and-quote feature as it's technically still possible to achieve the same goal with a tiny bit more effort.

Maybe I can get w3bz on it if we've got time and we can reproduce it at work. It could be we haven't noticed it in testing because we're both running 1600 height screens, but here at home I've only got 1280h, pushing most of the image off the bottom.

Why cant i cut and past and insert quotes from someone elses post into mine ?
The method you're using doesn't work on these forums. I think everyone else is just inserting the quote they're after (the whole post) and then deleting the portion of the quote they have no need for.
We don't have any plans to add the select-and-quote feature as it's technically still possible to achieve the same goal with a tiny bit more effort.
Thanks for answering my question.
I just sussed out or discovered accidentally how to delete a block of text that i have just cut and pasted just leaving the part of the post that i am replying to.
I am on an up to date Mac.
I cut and paste an entire block of text using the 'insert quote' feature so it appears in my reply box. Then i move the cursor over the text that i dont want so it appears blue and use the 'delete' key on my keypad and it instantly deletes the text i dont want and leaves what i do want.
Amazing ! ;D
Everyone else probably already knows this already but i didnt as i am a bit of a dunce with technology a lot of the time .Indeed this does achieve the same result as a 'select and quote' feature and it takes a second or 2 longer.
Now i understand your logic and really it was just me being ignorant.
Problem solved !
First time I changed my Avatar picture since I had signed up.
I used the Spore U.F.O. Creator to design/make it,

As you see. It's only a bust of me and the resembalance is superficial, close enought for the tiem beingas it's the first time I have attempted a likeness of myself using Spore.
I don't look quite so robust, my face is narrower than that, My hair it is bit thinner on top and is not so neat looking, but thats basically me.
I have a short thick beard and neck length hair that is thicker around the sides than it is on top.
While this doesn't look exactly like me, it's more accurate than my former avatar picture.
I know it looks silly as a U.F.O., particually when it's flying. But I only intended this to made as my Avater picture here on this forum.
See it on the right hand side column.

For a moment I was worried George Lucas had found the internet and was coming to destroy us in his intergalactic space bust.
Are the PMs working? I've been trying to send one but it doesn't appear to be successful.
They worked for myself and w3bz when we tested them a few days ago. I'll send you one as a test.
It might be whoever you sent it to is just ignoring you, or hasn't had a chance to read it yet, or noticed they have a PM.

Yep that worked Vince. I just wondered because I sent a PM, ticked the 'save a copy in outbox' box and got nothing. Do the names in the addressee box always have quotation marks?
Looks like it - it's probably how the software differentiates between names, as names can have spaces.
My original PM did work apparently Vince, just being a bit technically challenged I think. Nothing new there.
Alright, most issues seem to have been sorted out and this thread has gotten a bit overloaded.
