Title: The Board
Post by: Art on 10 July, 2009, 07:28:53 PM
Can we have "View Active topics" back? Or is it now hidden away somewhere and I;m missing it?

Was looking for exactly the same thing  ::)

This is a bit of a must. I don't really want to trawl through each and every topic to find new posts or threads.

can i third that. to have to look in each forum for updates is very overwhelming

Ah, the ever popular and labour-saving 'view active topics' function!

the View unread posts is handy to have, but View Active Topics would be nice to have back.

I've just checked out the 'view unread posts' thing and I think it'll do pretty much the same thing, just excluding topics that haven't been added to - it just seems pointless at the moment because we've all been "reset" as to what we've looked at recently.

uh whats happened here then??

Yeah ... I appreciate that something like this is always a thankless task for those who have to implement it, but there are a number of things that will actively keep me off this board, which surely defeats the point of a re-vamp?

1) Active Topics - sorry, I'm not clicking through every category heading to see what the newest post is. We need this back ASAP.

2) Colour scheme - as previously noted, it's very hard to see where one post ends and the next begins. We need a darker grey, I think.

3) Like PJ says - is it just a Safari bug, but top right of my screen shows Home / Help / Search and then a whole bunch of stuff all piled up on top of each other. Actually, it is a Safari issue, because it works OK in Firefox:

Firefox:

Safari:

Nonetheless, Safari is supposed to be a pretty standards-compliant browser, so it's strange that it can't correctly render this part of the layout ...

4) Spoiler tags: may not seem like a big deal, but they were used extensively here.

5) AAAAH! My fucking killfile doesn't work!

Cheers

Jim

Can I add my voice to sorting these two in particular. Cheers

Overall all though nice job and I'm happy with the new (well I've just noticed them) posting formatting options.

Just a little complaint, nothing major or anything, but I liked being able to see who else is online at the same time as me.

Also, as mentioned above, it is difficult to determine where one post ends and another begins.

But thanks for trying to improve the board for us!

Yeah for some reason, and I think this is because of a mod I did, those stats are offline. Weird as... but I want to get the other stats working at any rate as it has a lot more info which is cool.

Is it still tough for you to see where one post ends and another begins?

God I thought the last 'new' board was bad and couldn't look any worse, was I ever wrong.
Am I just getting grumpier with age or is it time to just call it a day.

Is this a new look or just a temporary skin until the previous design is restored?

I'm gonna be doing a few no doubt. Next up will be the same as the previous one. And hey, if Logan gets off his ass and visits http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/ (http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/) he might find you lot a design that he favours...  ::)

Thanks for the reply. I really liked the 'old' (ie. previous) look, so if we could please get that back, that would be aces! Thanks again :-)

Heh!
I'm liking some of the designs on Fantasy & Futuristic.

I like that Nuclear one- but I likes me red/ black colour scheme!

Actually- avci predator and the one after look pretty good too. Not very 2000ad though, I'll grant you.

Might put a stick up on that for regulars that get to pick new themes that have to go through a 2000adification process and then get added...hmmm  ;)

Actually- this is worth a look, terrans- in the name of helping the poor droid out!

I'm looking at CS-DK on Fantasy & Futuristic and imagining that Jock Dredd fae the latest T-shirt that no-one has managed to get... aw, you know the one with the daystick...

Only, without the Abaddon Books ad down the side!  ;)

In fact- with some of our resident luddites, maybe a skin to make it look like a piece of foolscap paper written on in cheap biro would be best- or even a slate and chalk!!!

;D

I hope its not time for you to call it a day .

We havent always got on but it would be shame if you left instead of giving it a chance and its probably the same for a lot of others here as well.

While I too want a return to the 'Spoilers' tab and 'View active topics' option may I congratulate the maintenance Droids on at least making sure the board was back up quickly and not suddenly missing for a couple of months. There are always teething issues with any change but this one has been in comparison to some, a fairly painless one

As a luddite, I'm going to magnanimously let that one go, but just point out that the Theory of Relativity was first posited on the back of a copy of "The Racing Post" by Albert Einstein, using, if my memory serves me correctly, a pen he nicked from Argos.

Thankyou.

Pfft. Logan 'calls it a day' and leaves the board forever quite regularly.

And another for 'Active Topics' here too- I don't mind what the board looks like as long as I can find what I'm looking for on it.

Good stuff doids- extra oil rations for the web droids, Greenbonce.

Now, if you could just calculate the winning lottery numbers for this Saturday
and PM them to me by Friday that would be spot on...

QuotePfft. Logan 'calls it a day' and leaves the board forever quite regularly.

my few 100 days in the wilderness that I've done are quite different from considering calling it a day.
Off the top off my head I've taken 2 or 3 100 day breaks from the board over the years, as yet I don't think I've ever said I'm going to leave and then return from the dead like a bad X-Men character or Scojo.

Must admit as much as I don't like the redesign of the redesign its not how the board looks that has me considering The Long Walk but how many of the board that just get on my tits.

My preference is the look of the previous style forum which was easy to read and looked right in comparison to the rest of the website. I definitely don't like the fantasy and futuristic templates.

I haven't spent much time in the current incarnation of the forum, but what I do like is the fact that external links, once clicked on open in a new browser window. It used to wind me up that any external link I would click on would take me off this website.

Make liberal use of the 'ignore' function and continue?

That's what I'd do.

Although my heart sank a little in my chest when I learnt someone was ignoring me.... *sob*  But I'm so NICE!

I have a tendency to alternate between both. If I'm catching up after I've missed a few days I use View unread posts, while if I which to reread a topic I find View Unread Posts to be a godsend.

It wasn't working for me at the time, but is now.  So yes- it's a good function to have.  Now that it works.  Hooray!

I'd also rather be able to view my posts rather than just the ones that have had replies to them.
