Title: ANIME
Post by: mightybush on 22 July, 2009, 04:51:01 PM
With the recent sucess of the partnership with warner brothers and dc comics makin new anime films such as the avengers, iron man,the hulk and the green lantern to name a few,i would luv too know if 2000ad has any future plans for making some themseleves.I personally belive there would be a BIG market for more mature anime from characters such as rouge trooper, abc warriors, durham red,and of course JUDGE DREDD who im sure u could have endlees amounts of matieral. This is coming for a true fan of 2000ad series from 1989 and hav loved it.I just feel the 2000ad is selling itself short from attracting more fans, sucess and of course the dosh,so come on 2000ad step up to the plate.     the rouge trooper.

ABC Warriors saturday morning cartoon and an adult-oriented Nikolai Dante tv series animated in Simon Fraser style are just two of the obvious possibilities that would make my heart sing.

And make me get up early saturdays....

There are plans to do animated 2000 AD stuff already  (http://vimeo.com/6865650) although not in the Anime style. To be honest, I think that's a good thing.  Sure there are various artist styles but by large the art of 2000 AD isn't isn't Manga so I don't think the animation should be Anime.

Pretty much, I agree with the sentiment in the post above, in spite of my unnatural love for Japanese Death Cartoons.

I've been fantasising for years about the possibilities of a CG Judge Dredd show, though.

Strontium Dog would also be a great candidate for a CG treatment - I think all those difficult to recreate mutations would be much more convincing in a full 3D environment than if they were to be attempted practically or comp'd into live action.

It's an excellent idea. I think a lot of 2000AD properties would benefit from the CG treatment - it cuts out the need for expensive sets and so on.

Since this thread was posted, I've been trying to conceive of what an anime style Dredd, Slaine or whoever might look like. It's really hard to visualise. Mind you, I do recall a character in the movie Lensman that bore a passing resenblance to Nemesis...

I remember a LONG time ago (possibly around 20 years), at a time that 2000AD put up readers artwork (and paid hard cash) that someone did a fantastic Hammerstein CG model. I remembered thinking at the time that I'd loved to see a whole episode of such characters. Of course back then it possibly took the guy 4 days just to render out the one frame  ;)

Wonder if he's still about, or possible even active on this site? If he is, belated congratulations on a job well done.
