Title: Board stats
Post by: LARF on 22 July, 2009, 06:07:18 PM
Wow, apparently I'm No. 6 in the most posts top ten...

Like the new stats facility!

PVS is still number one on the most posts even though he's not around here anymore... quite remarkable!

The John Byrne thread is our fourth favourite topic, after death and the Judge Dredd movie?    Thankfully Get Fact! remains on top, otherwise, what are we like?  (Avoids noting that he's been online for nearly 24 hours, which in his defence is only because he leaves the board open in the background for company while he works long lonely hours on company accounts and rectified photography, honest).

Generally, or right now?  Generally, I'm an archaeologist.  Right now, I'm rectifying photos and stitching them onto a digital survey of a gatehouse on my own time, because the budget for the project was so tiny that it's long gone, and it's better than staring at the dismal financial situation that I should be dealing with (note:  these issues may be connected).  Still, learning lots about Photoshop so it's all good.

Hooray! I'm fourth on the most logged in list! Wait, is that a good thing? However I also leave it open in the background while I do other things - I do have SOME life!

I'd not seen this page before - if you click on an individual member (or yourself) there's a graph of what time of day you log in, which is quite interesting. Shows how many people are posting here while they're supposed to be working!

An archaeologist eh, I was going to say "cool" but from your intimation of fiscal woes I'd imagine that would have been met with a loudly typed expletive.

Ah well, in the words of Bobby Deniro in "Brazil", "Shit...we're all in it together".

Not at all Kerrin, after all, I'm in the 10% of my profession who haven't lost their job in the last 12 months, so any complaints I have are trivial, and anyway the actual work is still fascinating (to me).  I've already had two (maybe 3) solidly crap years, so I'm an old hand at this now,  Business strategy at the moment is the Jack'n'Rose gambit - try to stay out of the water as long as possible so you'll still be alive when the rescue boats come.  They are coming soon, right?  Right?

Yep, that's pretty much how we're playing it at the moment. The perverse thing is that our order books are looking better and better but there's no operating capitol to pay for anything. The banks have been given billions for the express purpose of helping small businesses but the towering shites aren't dishing any of it out.

Anyhoo, I'm doing quite well in the online for longest stakes, mainly from dozing off on the sofa whilst logged in. Waddayamean cheatin'.

Mmm-hmmm, same here.  I have two nice projects on hold that would get us through to the end of the year, but neither can start because the developers in question can't get loans to cover initial works - and unlike some of the crap we've been working with over the past few years (high density residential on the side of a drumlin in the wilds of Cavan, for example) they're both sure things in terms of returns, AFAIC.

Banks are not dishing out the capital that they have been given at our expense to lend to businesses etc because they are being told not to as this is happening in the US with the FED and no doubt it is the same here as well which makes the whole bailout scam seem perverse.Banks being reluctant to lend is a bit different to being told not to.

You have to ask whats the point ?.

This is ongoing and i wrote about this peculiarity a year ago.

This situation is starting to fuck up my plans as i want to do a development project with my father but we cant do it yet because its too risky because the market isnt showing any signs of recovery because there is not enough lending by banks going on for it to recover anytime soon yet you are told it is recovering when it isnt and jobs are being lost because of lack of lending.

I'm pretty certain that this stat only started with the recent change over and to be fair isn't that useful. I'm on the list (or was not checked today) but that's largely cos when I'm at work I sometimes just leave the forum on in the background and dip in every now and again.

What happened to Paul Von Scott anyway? I remember him from the days when the messageboard was relatively new (and before my 7 year hiatus)

Obviously judging by the number of posts (!!) he was around for a while?

Paul's still around- as far as I know he's working on the next issue of Omnivistascope at the moment- although he may pop up and tell us different...

The real problem with those stats is they encourage pointless posting!

I think Rac and Bou should be top of the list, considering they live together. Also, VinceBot is a cheat. I suspect he started with 10,000 posts.

Too much information.  I already know the person that has me killfiled, because the sad knacker told me he was going to do it*- but do people really need to know that they're that disliked?  One member here is blocked by six people.  Does he really need to know that?

In other news, my email address seems to be visible, even though I've requested it to be kept hidden (unless it's something only I can see, of course).

Yeah, if you request your e-mail to be hidden it still appears in italics on your profile page, but only you can see it.  Anyone care to check that that's the situation in my case?  Certainly is in Timson's.

I'd add my voice to the (assumed) request that the 'ignored by' stat be removed, or at least be made private - it smacks of playground bullies.

Yeah, I'm being ignored by someone apparently, which came as a bit of a shock to be honest. I've not been on here that long and I certainly didn't think I'd done anything to offend anyone. Rather not know thanks!

possibly also "nyah nyah blah blah neer" (user ignoring most people).

Since the 'ignored by' stat became available i noticed i was ignored by 4 individuals which was exactly what i expected and i think i know who they are.No problem with that as i am not everyones cup of tea.I have since gained another so the score has gone up to 5 and again i think i know who it was as they said as much themselves. No problem with that either but since then i have gained another 'ignore file' by an unknown individual and i havent got a clue why.

I dont have a problem with it myself and i dont care who knows how many individuals ignore my posts and if anything i was pleasently surprised given my track record that i am ignored by so few when i was expecting the figure to be a lot lot higher than that.

The male to female ratio is declining! It was 66:1 a few days ago and now it's up to 68:1

Encouraging though that the membership is growing to the tune of 8.93 people a day - ah, I was once that 0.93 of a person!

And I've also just checked out some of the most popular threads from before I joined - That Necronauts one had me completely baffled, but I guess it's some kind of game, as is the come and fight zombies one - These were certainly very popular - has this "shared experience" gaming being rendered obsolete by consoles with online capability?

I'm gonna ask a stupid question now so please bear with me.

How does ignoring work? Does it just not show that persons post? Cos it seems to me that that could seriously screw up some of the ongoing threads with you not knowing what unignored people are responding to.

And how does it apply if the ignored person starts a topic?

I ask out of idle curiosity cos I have no intention of ever using it. We can't all agree on everything and it's surely these opposing viewpoints that fuel a good debate.  I've not encountered anybody on this board whose annoyed me at all badly enough to even consider it.

Although apparently I've been ignored by one person.

What, in the name of all that's unholy, could you have done to anyone to make them block you?  That's absurd!  PeterWolf and the-artist-formerly-known-as-Eyebrows accumulating implacable foes and nemeses I can understand (even if I don't agree with it), but faplad?!?  Madness.

Er, did I dream it?  I'm sure it showed 1 person ignoring me. I even mentioned it to my sister when I first saw it. Maybe Tordelback shamed them? I don't know, maybe I'm going mad.

Cheers by the way Tordelback, assuming you didn't just mean I'm too bland to dislike.

And hopefully without sounding like too much of a plum, I didn't try it cos I was scared I wouldn't be able to switch it back off. I' useless with thes machines. I amaze myself every time I manage to post a basic message.

Yes, yes, it was of course intended as a devilishly subtle insult.  That's me alright, subtle.

Nah, just that you tend to know who might incite ignoring by reading the replies to their posts. People are seldom shy about these things.

See, since the new board came in to being I have not kill filed any one. And it was only in the last 6 months (after being here for 5 years) that I had relented and felt I had to kill file any board members.

But with a New board A New start. So I have refrained from continuing the ignoring of the people who made the list on the last board.
