I'm not sure- but didn't it all start because somebody kept posting that some rubbish American "hunk" actor would be a perfect movie Dredd- again and again and again ad nauseum?- and instead of it becoming an ongoing joke, poor Trout got banned for mentioning it. Or something. I still don't know who the "both" were, who were banned in the thread I started about Mega City Architecture and it's similarity to rural England.
But it wasn't me, or Mike Gloady.
All very confusing!
Hope it's sorted soon, I hate this kind of thing.

I heard a rumour that it was because Trout kept waving around this really poor script for the Dredd movie that he'd written, dissing Rebellion bad because they wouldn't take it. Then he kept banging on about his cat.
ahh, having read more of today's threads I get it. It was just the mention of T-shirts that prompted a reflex twitch of the little known internal organ the "Geekius Haventgotthatone"
Shouldn't really have started a thread about it. It is all kicking off today though isn't it? I've been reading Planetoid's posts for ages without suspecting S**** (but I've long had doubts about the Trout!) (joke)

I can think of few people who have contributed so much to the board, so eloquently, and with such good humour over such a long time.
I mean if it were up to me there'd be a lot of bannings don't get me wrong. Trouty wouldn't be on the list though.
At the very least the recipients of these bannings should have some idea of...you know...what they've done wrong.

As I understand it, everyone leaving the forums alone for a little bit, sleeping well and having a cup of tea before they next look at them is a cure for forum cancer.
You can view the 'last posts by' option on banned users and pretend you're a geekier Sherlock Holmes without the skag habit, but it looks like the trigger event was either S**** witch hunting (unlikely, as someone else was banned at the same time and no mention of He was uttered), or commenting on a particular thread because it was commenting on another thread that a moderator had locked. If the former, then it's odd getting banned for what amounted to a running joke on the forum in a post worded without malice, and if the latter, poor etiquette not to ask/warn the users first, which isn't so much good moderating as it is basic civility.
Either way, I have to question the effectiveness of a banning policy if no-one's pointing out the offending behavior so others can avoid repeating it.
I want a T-shirt that reads "I have forum cancer in both balls"
edit: I just realised I work part-time in a store that prints its own t-shirts. D'oh - now I gotta make good!

Indeed. I can't either support or object to the bannings when I have absolutely no idea what's going on, or even who's been banned. If it's Trout (as rumoured), I confess to a great deal of shock. The first regicide in this parallel in three centuries!
How does the nicest place on the web come to this in the space of 24 hours?
I've been a member of the board for 7 months and I can count the bans in that time on the fingers of one hand. There have been the occasional flare ups and heated debates but they've always settled down peacefully when talk of biscuits - or cheese- has come to the rescue.
We're all (semi)reasonable adults. We're not always gonna agree on everything and thats as it should be. I've strongly disagreed with spooky steev on a number of topics (redheaded nu-who companions and Disney spring to mind) but I was shocked on the other thread to read about his trouble on facebook. And he agrees with me about subs, which is great, cos no-one else does.
This is a stream of consciousness rant in serious need of a point so I guess it's this. Can the mods please ease off on the bans? Trout for christs sake! Didn't he found the place?
I just hit post and 5 (5!) people have beat me to it with their voices of reason. Still posting this though and I want one of those forum cancer t-shirts as well.
I was there, it was Trout alright, and I still don't really know why. He did not offend but it's only a short term ban.

Can I, in the spirit of newfound loveliness here, just ask people to consider if all this talk of "Forum Cancer" is entirely appropriate in the light of some of the stuff going on over in the 'Life Spugs' thread.
