Ok so have a new laptop thanks to the insurance and this one runs Vista (Man this is taking some getting used to). Anyway try as I might I can't for the life of me unintall Windows Messenger Live and the OR even stop it trying to get me to sign up when I boot up.
I've searched for it in Programs etc and looked online and all the advice I can find to date leads me to areas of the PC were I can see it to unintall it. Its very well hidden and I've wasted an hour this morning trying to get rid of the bugger!
Any advice would be gratefully recieved
Sorry for the double post the edit button has gone already. BUT I think the problem is Windows Live Messengers is now built into Windows Essential Live and so if I remove it I'll also lose a number of other functions that I'd like to keep e.g. Movie Maker.
Clever (if very annoying) buggers.
Still if anybody can help it would be appreciated
Is it Windows Live Messenger that you want to stop from running automatically?

Yeah have litertally just sussed how to do that so even if I can't uninstall it at least I can pretend it doesn't exist!
It is an annoyance.
By the way, did they give you a free Windows 7 upgrade voucher? If your lappie is new and has Vista they should have provided one so that you can upgrade when its released at the end of next month.

Don't know if this will work but worth a try.
1. Log on as an administrator.
2. Click Start | Run.
3. In the Run box, type gpedit.msc to open the Group Policy editor. In Vista, you will be prompted to continue. Click the Continue button.
4. In the left pane, under Local Computer Policy | Computer Configuration, expand Administrative Templates and then Windows Components.
5. Double click Windows Messenger.
6. In the right pane, double click the policy "Do not allow Windows Messenger to be run."
7. Click the Enabled option.

Thanks for that I'll give it a whirl.
On the Windows 7 front I've checked and all I need do is registar with Dell apparently so that's good BUT that does led to another question is it wise to move straight to a new operating system when its first out? Isn't there a substancial risk that it'll be bug ladden?
I'll do some research and see what Windows 7 has to offer does anybody know in layman's terms what the main differences will be?
