I thought it was time to give another 2000AD heavyweight his 15 minutes of fame.
Same basic idea as here (http://2000adonline.com/forum/index.php/topic,24392.0.html), but feel free to draw Wulf, Gronk, Middenface, Durham or any Strontium Dog character - no ref and 15 minutes are the only rules!

larger image (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__HDuLFUg18A/StxNyDeGpcI/AAAAAAAABb8/V6Zq_FzjR7c/s1600-h/alpha_15mins.jpg) if there's nothing showing above!
Not 100% happy with this, but it should get the ball rolling!
Dude! Excellent, I shall enter this evening!
You did that in 15 minutes?? :o
Tempted to have a go, but I'm pretty sure I've never drawn Alpha before (don'tshootmedon'tshootmedon'tshootme) :-\
Sweet opening effort.
I'm hoping to make my entry later today *fnar fnar*

Boom:

And:
Pencilled on my lunch break today, inked at home, then photographed with the camera (because they're in a hardback sketchbook). Hence they might look a bit distorted!
Jim and Grimm - you rock!
and Jim, also, there's the makings of a fine entry into the monthly art comp there I reckon!
I had another go...

The arm with the hand on the hip is all wrong... I hadn't really drawn Durham before and I really enjoyed doing this despite it's faults.
I bet you did you perve. Which magazine did you get your model from? ;)
Too much clothing, not enough flesh ;)
I think it was just about 15 minutes:

This one definitely was:

Way to hit the ground running guys!!
Great. More distractions. Top work everyone.

Here's my first attempt using sketchbook pro and wacom volito, used the 2b pencil tool, blur and chisel tipped marker. Struggling with the digital art, too many years of using pencil and paper, definately must practice more.

Another 15 mins this time using brush and paintbucket and eraser in Sketchbook Pro.

Bang on 15 mins. Lunch time warm up.
;D. Nice.
This thread is feckin' ace.
Bolt that is pretty much superb. To say the face/knee captures him perfectly would not be going to far. Class.
Bravo! That's superb, sir! There's some splendid stuff on this thread.
That said, if you lot can do this in 15 minutes, think how what you'll be able to do in the Art Comp! Eh? Eh?
Cheers!
Jim
Jim- my entry is inked and away at the colourists- hoping to have it soon.

Good man!
(You're not letting that Clements hack at it, are you?)
Cheers
Jim
Um, no? :)
Err...!
You know I'm only kidding!
(Don't you?)
Cheers!
Jim
Heh- yup.
Bit weird this one:
Great stuff everyone - really cool stuff considering that 15 minutes goes very quickly.
Here's another one, I think I tried to do too much in the time and have had to stop short with what looks like a bare bones layout.

you did that in 15 mins! F**k! I must be soo slow.
really good!
Cracking figure drawing there Kev. Great pose for Johnny. That good, that quick, give the man a job Greenbonce.
Bit of a false start on this.

I quite like the hair but not much else
Nice brush pen sketch, only recently got one myself. They're fantastic, totally changed my approach to sketching and really speeds things up.
Thanks DR, it's one of those pentel japanese brush pens, have got a bit addicted to them have a really nice feel but some of my details suffer.Really like your version by the way.

Maybe slightly over 15 mins, drawn on the tube this morning.

Love it Rads.
That's fantastic - love the eyes so intense.
CRACKING work, Rads.

Did you have an audience?
QuoteDid you have an audience?
No. As you probably know, the tube is quite a hostile place and people are usually very tired/stressed out, esp in the morning. Sometimes a person or two will show interest, but generally people think I'm drawing
them and treat me with suspicion. :)
Harrassed tube commuters make for good facial expression value though... Just draw them from a distance! Nice Alpha, Radiator.
The 15 minutes rule is a bugger. Forgot to paste this up here earlier:
Then tried again without colour:
Sketches take longer than they should as I keep making new layers for separate elements without thinking nowadays, but I do notice that a few weeks once upon a time scribbling the Stronty action figure for a Zarjaz strip has at lest got Johnny looking consistent.
Blimey Professor, you did those in 15 minutes each? My hat off to you, sir. Good stuff!
Those are fucking fantastic, Prof. Having not long drawn it for Dogbreath myself, that helmet's a bugger from some angles, innit?
In fact, you don't really appreciate Carlos Ezquerra's mental approach to costume design until you try to draw the bugger -- particularly over a multi-page strip,
Everyone's favourite curmudgeon, John Byrne, recounted a story on the JBF about how Dave Cockrum gave Wolverine a different costume (http://goodcomics.comicbookresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/06/Wolverine-as-Fang.jpg) right before handing over art duties to Byrne, which Byrne recounts as if this was challenge from the more senior (at that time) Cockrum.
And then you look at something like Dredd's uniform: Helmet. OK. Let's cut an unusual shape out of it, add a crest, and a paint job. And shoulder pads. Different shoulder pads. And one of them is an eagle, and the other has lots of padding. And a shield. With a chain. With nine/seven/five links.
And a utility belt. And elbow pads. And gloves, with pouches, and knuckle armour. And kneepads. And boots, also with padding, and a holster.
Now that I think about it, I don't think he left the strip in a huff because McMahon got the first published episode, I think he designed the character, them said: "Fock eet, I am no drawing thees shit for five pages a week!"
Cheers

I'm a bit disappointed with this effort.
I didn't have time to work out what the hands were doing so he seems to be suffering from the same mutation as Jeremy Beadle. Also one of his eyes seems to be wandering off his face.
In my defence I had to draw from memory so the mistakes in the costume are down to that.
Wow, I've just looked back over the thread and realised that mine's the crappest by a mile!
There are some bloody talented people on this board - well done everyone!
Hey, non of that talk James. Yours is fantastic - and from memory as well! Johnny ain't the easiest to draw without reference in front of you.
With scanning and adding a bit of colour, I think I may have strayed nearer 20 minutes, but I was trying to iron out whatever weirdness I can see but not quite resolve with this one....
I think ive drawn Alpha more often than Dredd over the years in a doodley way, but Ive never really worked out how to do it
(http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n68/DobeyKweeg/Alpha.jpg)
Leigh, that's cracking. Not only naled the "look" but also the character, the hardest thing in my opinion. Well done mate....
Leigh, amazing! He's got a stone cold glare going on, and love the scarf & goggles.
I wish I could draw, they are great.

Had to dig back a bit tho

Man, I couldn't remember what his legs where like - hence the handy sand storm.. *ahem* ;)

Bit Steven Tyler in the face :D
Well in the lips!
Ha! Wee bit indeed!
Couldn't resist some halftone action. This guy is even harder to draw than the other fella. Took 16 mins. So sue me.
It was meant to be something bigger but didn't go well so gave up pretty sharpish.
Ohhh! That's nice!
Some crackers there. Archey, thats great. And SuperSurfer! Might have a crack at this over the weekend. Drawings getting pretty rusty of late.
Thanks chaps, do you think i should go back and finish it?
