Title: The time on the board
Post by: Rio De Fideldo on 26 October, 2009, 01:08:17 PM
This might be a silly question but as far as I can see the time on the site clock is wrong.

Should I log out and back in again?

It's usually held at a server level. Failing that its a setting in the forum software. This might be one case where turning it off and back on again doesn't fix it :)

I noticed this as well. It's not gone back an hour with the rest of us.

I didn't worry to much though cos before the revamp the clock was never right either. Remember Rogers hilarius April Fools post where lots of people jumped up and said he'd posted while it was still March?

Go into your profile, select Look and Layout Preferences and click auto detect on Time Offset .. tada!

That does indeed work, excellent. And presumably set it back to zero when the clocks go forward.

This is not a complaint, nor am I trying to sound churlish, it's just an observation, but I would have thought keeping up with the time changes would have been childsplay compared to some of the other things computers are asked to do. Set the time, date, location and have it automatically adjust for clock changes. My video does it.  Is there some realy technical reason why this isn't possible? I'm just curious, I know nothing about how these things work.

Haha, you guys. You shouldn't have to set the forums clock forward and backwards like the ones in your house, it should have been automagic.

I guess the timezone setting on the server is set to UTC or something, rather than something which pays attention to DST. I'll have a look.

I've just made a few posts, but the clock says I won't make them for another forty five minutes - weird!

But it's not a new problem: http://2000adonline.com/forum/index.php/topic,23163.0.html (http://2000adonline.com/forum/index.php/topic,23163.0.html). At least this time it's just a one-hour time zone problem, on the old board it was all over the place!
