God No. Considering some of the negativity that has arisen in the (not too distant) past after people have been offended - often unintentionally - by others remarks, I reckon anything that can help denote context and mood a little more clearly is a necessary evil.
As for the topic of the thread, I think the examples in CFs post are great and would love to see more. Only if it's not a huge hassle to the techy types though, who obviously work hard enough as it is.

Now I'm sure many of us have seen these but many new members won't have, so I will post the three that I copied when I saw them ages ago. I can't remember who did them (I'm sure someone will say) but here they are.
Obviously a bit smaller and take away the white surround and away you go ;)

I must reiterate that I didn't make them. One of the good people on this here forum made them a while back and I copied them into my laptop for future use.
I do wish they would come forward and take all the credit that they so rightly deserve.

I can't see why we can't have custom smilies. Let me check the admin panel has the capability, or I'll have to hunt down an SMF package which adds it.
I think we'll be limiting these things to a maximum of 100x25px. Ideally regular smilies would be 15x15px and look at least somewhat like the ones we've already got.
