Title: Pick your favourite smiley
Post by: VinceBot on 16 November, 2009, 09:58:13 AM
As discussed in this thread (http://2000adonline.com/forum/index.php/topic,26823.0.html), we're considering adding 2000ad themed and other custom smilies to the forums.

Some of you might not be aware of this, but you can actually select between a choice of three different smiley styles right now; SMF, PhpBB3 and SA. If we start adding custom smilies I don't really want to maintain 3 different lists, and I'd prefer the custom smileys to be of the same "theme" rather than having hodge-podge of different appearances.

For this reason, I now invite you, if you knew you could choose or not, to pick your favourite smiley sets from the following list.
You can pick up to two, and the one with the highest results will become the default.

>:(^-^:D8):'(:-[>:D;D???:-*:-X::):(:o:):P:-;)
SMF
PhpBB3
SA

So, we're voting on the default smiley set we want to keep, and a custom 2000ad set will be along later. Is that right?

I think you can turn off your ability to see smilies on your profile settings Matt.

Must admit I don't use them a huge amount myself but for those that do it might be fun to have some 2000ad themed ones. After all, if the Galaxy's Greatest Comic can't come up with some little cartoon faces, who can?

That's pretty much it Kerrin. I'm not sure the 2000AD guys have time to spare to whip up smileys right now, so I'll probably put something up in CC so you guys can try to crank out some good ones for now.

Edit: I should never have given you people the choice, I hate the PhpBB style.

I picked SA because they're the LEAST obnoxious, personally, I'd rather have none of the above and just plain text.

I hope people realised I had SA and Phpbb swapped around between the vote box and the display.  I've fixed it now, mind.

That SA set is incredibly vile.  Either of the other two would be fine (those who dislike them can switch them off in settings after all) but I find them useful as a way of denoting when someone's joking to avoid pointless arguments.....

Gotta love that afro.

And two of those sets don't even have furious red faces with gnashing teeth- that's balls.

Some cool 2k ones would be good.

Vince, does that box at the top of every page really have to be a horrible reddish shite colour. How's about the same blue as the other subforums, we're not blind and it's starting to do my head in. Cheers mate.

That's just the news announcement box. It's styled that way to be annoying and attention grabbing as we only normally put alerts in there like "Yes, we know the database is broken. No, we aren't going to fix it."

So ah, not right now, but I'll take the announcement down soon enough.

I'm with you on this one, Vincebot. The SA ones are clearly the best.

Leave the news box up until people vote correctly.

I chose SA. Some weirdness there which I think fits 2000 AD best.

I voted for the phpbb3 but i would like the option of a laughing smilie as well.It used to be an option but it disappeared once the new look was launched a while back. The Grinning smilie is not the same thing and if there is sadness then why not have laughter as well ?

The angry red smilie isnt much cop either. It looks like a buck toothed cherry tomato so i never use it and it doesnt really emote anger.

I still dont know what the green smilie is meant to be.

Sarcasm ?

Envy ?

???

I didnt like the other 2 alternatives because i didnt know what half of them are supposed to emote.

I'd love to have ago at doing this myself.

If not expecting a mster piecve, I will try my best.

Though, I do feel the ned for something much more than smilies.

They do seem rather limited.

They are just heads really.

I thinking of 2000AD themed cartoon or stick figures.

I can't believe you people are voting in the PhpBB3 smilies. It's because they've got a chin, isn't it?

SA is the way forward - had that design picked since the forums moved onto this format.

Can't we have the cardiff beer and save the smilies for later. A free barrel each just to sample...

One idea would be to take each emoticon and change it to a different 2000AD character which could give a 2000AD set of emoticons rather than just a bunch of 2000AD characters all with the same expression.

Good idea Wake.

Reckon Dredd is Mr Grumpy then.  And LO!  BEHOLD, there's one already.  Who's next?

Finny or Dante for winking?
Title: Re: Pick your favourite smiley
Post by: Kerrin on 19 November, 2009, 06:11:31 PM
Yep, good point Wake, I thought that was the idea but it's worth stating. D.R for grin? Mek-quake for angry? Judge Logan for grumpy?
Title: Re: Pick your favourite smiley
Post by: Jared Katooie on 19 November, 2009, 07:39:04 PM
Here's the way I see it...

Durham Red for winking.

Ro-Jaws for cheesy grin.

Judge Death for normal grin.

Dredd for angry.

Gronk for sad.

Hoagy for surprised face.

Sinister (ugh) for cool face.

Question mark could stay the same.

Devlin Waugh for rolling eyes.

Ukko for tongue.

I dunno who for embarassed. Slaine?

Tharg for Tight-lipped.

Undecided is another tough one. Rocky Balls?

Dante for kiss.

Samantha Slade for crying.

Though I'm not usually a fan of smiley I'd suggest with the custom lot we need a need is a 'dripping blood' Watchmen smiley (preferable animated) to indicate whenever we might refer to Alan Moore on a post.

Yeah I guess we're done with this now.

God I hate the PhpBB3 smilies. You people make me sick.
