Thought I'd ask as I enjoy colouring (almost) as much as drawing sequential pages, and have had a bash at colouring stuff that has been drawn by others in the last few months. It occurred to me that, if there were any available, I might have a stab at colouring some 2000AD samples. Are any available in the same way that scripts like Cycle of Violence are available for pencilling/inking? Had a brief nose around the site but can't seem to find any.

I am not aware of any, they have a number of colourists on the books so they probably aren't looking for new ones and they'd probably recruit from recommendations (hence the lack of colouring samples).
If you were looking to colour something like the sample strips then you could speak to one of the artists who has drawn them up (for example, Kev did a Sinister Dexter story a while back and only partially inked and coloured it, if you fancy the challenge).
Isn't there a thread where I dropped some linear for colouring? (granted you may be after a wider range, but still...)

The ever-amenable PJ posted a whole episode of "It Came From Bea Arthur Block" as unlettered B&W TIFFs -- you'll find the link on this blog post. (http://www.pauljholden.com/blog/2009/08/05/hue-hue-saturation-and-hue/)
Tony (Walking Dead) Moore has a high-res gallery of pencils for inkers and inks for colourists here. (http://www.tonymooreillustration.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=792)
If you scroll down a bit on this page (http://www.topcow.com/inside/jobs), you'll find a few sample pages for colouring from Top Cow ...
Cheers!
Jim
Hi PJ, yeah I saw your Dredd cover and have actually started having a bash at colouring it. A mighty fine cover it is too, but yeah, I was thinking of more sequential stuff.
Emps, that's a good idea, I could always do that I guess. Thanks guys.

There are six pages of Bea Arthur on that link to PJ's blog, too, MGB. I know -- I used them for lettering samples!
Cheers
Jim

I pity the poor bugger (Ha! see what I did there?) who had to ink this.
Jim, you're a legend. I'm currently wading through the Walking Dead at the moment, and loving (nearly) every minute, plus I'm pretty much booked up until Chrsitmas now and all the strips are horror themed, so I may well have a bash at these pages.

Cheers for the heads up on the Walking Dead pages. I'm having a crack at colouring a one pager from that just now. What I've got so far:

Any suggestions to make it better?
My only real recommendations are that your colours look too saturated (they'd never be that bright and bold in real life and on a zombie...) and a little... flat (especially the clothes. Once you are happy with the base colours you could pick a light source and add some shadows and highlights to give the image depth). Its a good start you just need a few more passes at it to add on more layers to build up the detail.
You should have seen them before I blued up their skin! I'm going to build up the shadows and highlights tomorrow. I wanted to have a go at some colouring something more loose in style. After colouring PJ's Dredd with its really tight linework, this is a bit more of a challenge. Still, I soldier on...
Keep at it Chilipenguin, look forward to the end result. I downloaded 5 pages last night and they're on the back burner to chip away at (like PJ's Dredd cover).
I'm currently colouring one of Gibson Quarter's Dredd sample pages, and Professor Byah is having a go at one of my own - hopefully I'll get them posted here at some point (with the other's permission, of course).
D'oh - I'd forgotten about that page!
Never got a chance to dig into it properly, as I took a bit ill and now have to catch up with another project - but hopefully I'll get a chance to finish it up sometime soon.
You may note that no buildings are coloured pink.

Not yet, anyway.
Cool!
Wow - it's very strange feeling seeing how someone else colour your work! Really like what you did with panel 4 - different to how I'd imagined but really adds something. The glowing hover chair is a nice touch too. I like the dusk effect on the sky and clouds in the first panel - again, not how I'd have done it but gives a really nice mood.
When I have the time I'll try and colour a panel or two from the page to compare.
The lighting sourcing and colour is excellent. Really liking this.

Those look fantastic. Makes me want to see more. ;)
I'd quite like to see my Cycle of Violence effort (as seen in the attempted scripts thread) coloured by someone.

Plus, if you are up for it, there is a script so people could have a go at lettering it too.
Professah -Lovely , Lovely color work. Take a bow.
Rad, I'm really looking forward to seeing your efforts when you are all done! Feel free to email me 'sneak peeks' again anytime mate.
MGB, Anytime you'd like some inked up samples to color just hit me up...or maybe Emp will ask us to do another new Fractal page....the last colored one looked great! :D

Fear not - you are down as our pinch hitter and are on the list again. So one way or another you'll be back ;)
When that happens, I'm your man GQ.
Here's a little bit of my attempt at colouring Gibson's Dredd page - I don't want to post the whole thing til I've got his say so - it'll be on his DeviantArt soon enough I expect....
Very nice Rads, you two compliment each other well.
Wow. Very nice too, Mr Radiator sir.
...and here's the whole page:
Fantastic work both. ;)

I'd like to second that!
I'd also like to see this in the prog... :)
Like the shoot 'em up massacres in the film Total Recall.
I thirdsy it. Prog bound, surely! :)
Very very very good - I'm very fond of that style - nicely muted a bit like Peter Doherty meeting Len O Grady in a field
Radiator did a great job on this one.
I agree that we make a pretty good team. We've worked together before on a Wolverine Vs. Venom picture, which turned out very well with Tom's colors. I've just update my blog with a little entry aout our boy RAD and you can see the pic over here http://gibsonquarter27art.blogspot.com/ (http://gibsonquarter27art.blogspot.com/)
Cheers, Gibson - did you get the hi-res version I sent?
I'm quite pleased with how the page turned out, but as I say, I could have carried on tweaking the colours for hours.
I have just discovered the Bpelt flatting plugin, which I'm very excited about! In the past I've done all my flatting by hand - that Dredd page took me many hours just to do the separations before I could even start on doing the proper colour work. This is going to speed my colouring up so much - and it's a free download, too!

Got the big scan Rad...thx very much!
Got round to colouring my own page to compare:
Side by side comparison:
....it's a close one for sure
the old one looks very Mike Mcmahon ish ...like in the Toxic mag days. (maybe thats what you were going for?)
The latest looks WAYYYY better IMHO. >
I'm happy with how mine turned out - I always think colour adds a lot to my work (helps to hide the dodgy drawing!). But sometimes I do think my colouring is a bit too... literal? Sometimes wish I could be a bit bolder with some of the decisions - that's why I like a lot of what the Prof did. His version reminded me of McMahon, too - especially the buildings in the first panel.
Now if only someone could letter it for me...
JIM! **Cough , ***cough, JIM!
Paging Mr. Campbell...
I have to say, I prefer the left version - looks like the colouring is servicing the story telling more than the second version (and keeping foreground/background items distinct from each other)
-pj
I prefer the left version too, but for the simple reason its brighter, clearer and suits the "cartoony" artwork a bit better. Its gorgeous. The oner on the right looks very lifeless by comparison. Both quality, though I must stress.
