Title: Ultimate Sacrifice
Post by: Cthulouis on 22 July, 2010, 06:49:32 PM
In order to get into the routine of drawing on a regular basis, I have decided to try and do something akin to the National Novel Writing Month. I have set myself the task of drawing one five page comic every month, for the rest of the year. I know this isn't a particularly professional pace, but we all have to start somewhere.

I was lucky enough to have been sent some scripts by Legendary Shark Mark Howard, so I picked his story Ultimate Sacrifice to start with. One thing worth noting is that this script has no dialogue, simply a barrage of gun sound effects.

Well, here goes...

Nice!

The headshot on page 5 is a stunner  :)

Nice work, Cthulouis. I agree with the headshot Woolly mentioned. Nice flow of action, too!

Personally, I'd like to see some fx here and there to give all the gunplay extra oomph, maybe even deathsounds (Gaks! and Aaks!) from the dead and dying, but I mean that just comes down to taste. Well done, sir.

The script does indeed have fx, but I thought I should leave that to the letterer (though, this probably won't get lettered, hence I did do a little naughty lettering, just to make it make sense).

Oooooooh, disregard my silly post then. Get it lettered. It's good!

Very nice.  The aforementioned headshot (among other things) reminds me of the guy who did Detritus Rex and The Driver for Toxic! back in the 1990s.  This is a good thing.

I tried a similar exercise except I posted daily (ahem) screengrabs of whatever I was working on at the time on my blog.  Ended up redrawing some things and even trashing pages entirely, but the screengrabs went up regardless - even sat down to work on stuff just so I could make the daily post.  It does help to have a work routine if you're a shiftless get like me, and we all know the tried and true Underpants Gnome business model:

1 - Routine =
2 - Discipline =
3 - ??????? =
4 - Profit

Nice work Cthulouis.
I noticed you had a script page when you were sketching at the Minty shoot. Was that something to do with this?

Yep. I was planning page 4 at the time.

Well done, Sir! You've turned a poor script into something rather good.

Glad you like it. I found it an interesting script to work on. The lack of dialogue really focused attention on the storytelling aspect of the art.
