Hi all.
I've lurked here for a while and thought it was about time I made a contribution.
The first comic I ever fell in love with was Starlord and I remember spending hours drawing pictures of Johnny, Wulf, Rojaws, Hammerstein and a load of other characters and they've stuck with me over the years and I revisit them occasionally.
I work for a company called Ark VFX. We do things like all those Cocopops/Rocks adverts, game trailers, World Cup adverts etc. so I get to use some great software. Occasionally I have the luxury of downtime between projects so I use it to learn new things, new techniques etc.. In one such period I came up with this bust of Johnny Alpha. (Its based on some of Carlos' sketches from about 1998.) It served its purpose and was archived off, unfinished, as paying work came in. But I found the renders the other day and thought they might be of some interest to other fans. So here they are.
They're about 2 or more years old now, modelled in Lightwave and Zbrush, rendered in Lightwave with some photoshopery. I'm planning on building a Durham Red full body sculpt if I can get a proper handle on the back of her costume (Scarlet Cantos style if anyone knows where I can find any good model sheets I'd be very grateful).
Cheers,
Pat

and some more ..
Welcome!
That looks effing cool.
and another ..
and finally ..
Very nice stuff there, Patrick. 2000AD characters given the 3D render treatment are always a fave of mine.
Two words: Fucking Awesome!
Looking good.
That's excellent Patrick, Durham Red changed her costume a fair bit, there was an action figure knocking about a while back, but I don't think it would be a huge amount of use.
Mark Harrison works for Rebellion - maybe it's worth asking around to see if there's a contact for him to see if he's got any sketches?
BTW does Greg Staples still have any involvement with Ark?
Seem to recall he was involved somewhere...
Cheers
Steve
No, Greg left many years ago but everyone else is still here plus a few of us new guys.
Thanks,
I just wondered if he still had a connection, never thought to ask him when we had him for the Dredd cameo.
Cheers
Steve
Dunno if it'll help with the 3D stuff but here's Mark's site, there's loads of Red pictures on this page:

Thanks Pete. Yeah I've raided Marks site and got the graphic novels. There's one half decent rear shot in the Scarlet Cantos and one half nude which answer some questions but there's still elements I don't understand. I found some great sketches by Carlos for Johnnys kit but I've only found one very low res model sheet by Mark but it doesn't explain what the various bits are and how they all connect. I may well contact Rebellion and see if they can put me in touch with Mark.
I can't remember if there are any sketches in the other GNs, there's the vermin stars and the empty suns which might have something?
The Vermin Stars has her in a different costume and Empty Suns is still to be delivered but I suspect I'll find that is different again. I prefer the Scarlet Cantos costume as seen on the cover as it feels more balanced to me. And I'll be going for the Teri Hatcher face rather than Jolie.

No worries, I got a two for the price of one in there for added efficiency.
Any good to you?

Thanks Jimbo. Yeah thats the image that told me the suit is leather rather than PVC. Its a shame its not available in a higher resolution so more costume detail can be seen but thanks very much for going to the trouble.
