Title: Greetings everyone
Post by: SquashedFly on 01 October, 2010, 05:10:40 PM
Hello!

I am a young(ish) 2000 AD fan, have been for a number of years but recently picked up one of the Judge Dredd case files I have (unfortunately the only one) and had a blast reading it. Which led to a few memories of my dad coming home with a load of old 2000 AD and Megazine issues that a mate from work had given him and I proceeded to read them off and on for quite a while always enjoying them. They are all a bit tatty now, unfortunately not receiving the care they deserved but I hope to slowly build a collection of stuff again with trades etc, while also delving into characters I have heard of but not yet had the pleasure of reading. My knowledge is a little jumbled(due to how I read and came across the stuff) and I have not read nearly enough but that as I said I hope to change that soon. And it can't be too much of a bad thing to have a whole wealth of material I will no doubt enjoy to be experienced for the first time:)

So this seemed like a pleasant place and a chance to talk with others who share my again blooming interest in all this great stuff :)

haha, Well I hope so, I don't plan to cause any trouble thats for sure. Don't have any ASBO's just yet. No bricks through anyones windows or anything. Though anyone finding me to be a nuisance be sure to let me know  ;)

I don't really seem to get on very well with most people my age anyway.Tend to be a bunch of boring, irritating buggers. And they no doubt think the same of me :D

Welcome! As that reprobate and published zombie-author above me said, this really is the friendliest place in the galaxy. If you ignore the odd spat. You didnt mention your age i think (i read the board on my phone, and its a complex and boringly time consuming procedure to go back and find your message) and everyone's assuming you're very young. I will point out to the others that i think you said something along the lines of being 'comparitively young'- which, going by the rest of us here, puts you anywhere between 15 and 35.
Enjoy your stay, it's fun here. Im sure a helpful senior boardmember like sweary jim or buttonmoon will be along shortly to welcome you properly.
Commando Forces has a brilliant cellar- but its okay, not in a josef fritzel way.

haha, I'm definitely liking this place already so thats good :)

Yeah pointless fighting and general malice towards others does tend to be a huge downfall of forums and the like but luckily this doesnt seem like the sort of place for that at all and if I was to guess I would say thats most likely because there are fewer younger people, Not to tar all my generation with the same brush but I think there are certain pluses to liking something that isnt particularly "in" with the young crowd.

and I am 17 btw so no need to wrap me up in cotton wool just yet :D My innocence is long gone  ;) such a large amount of cynicism at this age should be illegal :P. Thank you everyone I appreciate the welcome. :)

Haha, wow, the first one, the second are fine but I'm not a massive fan. Well done   :)

and even I'm not a big fan of Dredd Song  ;) so don't hurt me too badly. Not many curefans are,

Welcome. Certain people have asked me to be their Jester for the evening and I do not feel that would be appropriate during this auspicious occurring.

What would be appropriate would be me extending an invitation to you, asking that you would visit the booth which dispenses the numbers for Meat Find.

Sharp and open
Leave me alone
And sleeping less every night
As the days become heavier and weighted
Waiting
In the cold light
A noise
A scream tears my clothes as the figurines tighten
With spiders inside them
And dust on the lips of a vision of hell
I laughed in the mirror for the first time in a year

A hundred other words blind me with your purity
Like an old painted doll in the throes of dance
I think about tomorrow
Please let me sleep
As I slip down the window
Freshly squashed fly
You mean nothing
You mean nothing

I can lose myself in Chinese art and American girls
All the time
Lose me in the dark
Please do it right
Run into the night
I will lose myself tomorrow
Crimson pain
My heart explodes
My memory in a fire
And someone will listen
At least for a short while

I can never say no to anyone but you

Too many secrets
Too many lies
Writhing with hatred
Too many secrets
Please make it good tonight
But the same image haunts me
In sequence
In despair of time

I will never be clean again
I touched her eyes
Pressed my stained face
I will never be clean again

Touch her eyes
Press my stained face
I will never be clean again
I will never be clean again
I will never be clean again
I will never be clean again

Inbloodydeed. Haha again well done. Was it a google job then? :P

A song not to everyones taste I'm sure, why I am always pleasantly surprised if someone knows it  ;)

Also just how much of an insight does that give everyone into my personality now? :D

I am happy person most of the time, honest.

You are a bit like House of Usher - you could do worse, like taking a ticket for Meat Find, for example.

Google had very little to do with it, actually. That song has been one of my favourites for a good 23 years. I'm not the only one on the site who knows it. I'm sure at least Jim Campbell does.

Ridiculed for liking the cure? As Ush says, there's a lot of it about. While im in no way shape or form a curehead, i do go back twenty three or so years too- earlier maybe, to the first time i heard lovecats on super channel in the mid 80s. I think a fair few here have spent considerable time mumbling gloomily while staring at their shoes and swaying in darkened nightclubs- I know i have.
Anyway, no one's going to slap you down for any musical tastes here.

Except maybe Commando Forces. But then, he likes Jedward. Seriously, he really does.

Ice ice baby.

haha well like I have mentioned before, safe to say this is the place for me ;)

I never thought anyone would have a go seriously, maybe the odd ribbing but if that was the case all in good fun. I've just always expected least a mixed response once its out my favourite band is fronted by an adult man wearing lipstick and hair like a birdsnest while singing about despair and the like, but then again I'm on a 2000 AD site, I shouldnt be that surprised if there are others :D

I had forgotten about Creaming Jesus. They were from Bexhill just along the road from Hastings.

Dreadful.

I remember grafitti around Hastings town centre at the time [1987-1988] that said either Creaming Jesus and/or "Bexhill Bible Bastards"

My gerbils didn't like that, and nor did I! There are far too many covers of A Forest, and I don't even like the original, much less would I want to dance to it (any version) in a club.

It took me a while to appreciate the original recorded version, for me its always been a song thats better live. The Peel session version is miles better as well. But I agree there are too many, hadnt heard that one before though.
