Title: Old School Fan Joins The Board
Post by: MattJW on 17 October, 2010, 03:49:28 PM
Greetings, Earthlets and thrill-seekers everywhere.

Well, my first ever copy of 2000 AD was Prog 7 in 1977, bought for me by my grandad. I was instantly fascinated by it but my dad thought it was too violent for a six-year-old. So I carried on reading Buster for a few more years, until 1982 when I was finally allowed to jump right into the fantastic universe of 2000 AD on a weekly basis. I was captivated by the imaginative storylines and stunning artwork. It was clear to me that this wasn't kid's stuff. Hey, my dad was almost as eager as myself to get his hands on it!

Above all, I loved Judge Dredd, of course. What a legendary character he is (and was, seemingly from day one). I watched the Stallone debacle on its day of release and, as the credits rolled, just sat there in stunned silence wondering how it had all gone so badly wrong.....  :(

News about a new Dredd film has inspired me to read the Forum here for information. Like the rest of you, I really hope it does the business....!  :)

Splundigs!

Welcome aboard and have fun. What you don't say in your post is whether your still reading?

Have you ever had a letter published? or a drawing? I've been warned on my vigilance so I have to ask.

What up, dawg?

Even eldsters can discover new things about themselves if they consent to collecting their number for Meat Find.

Thanks, guys. I read 2000 AD solidly for about three years or so, from 1982 (I'm sure it was Prog 209 or thereabouts!). It then started to lose some of its edge for me - not that the stories and characters were bad by any means! It just felt like the "Golden era" of the comic for me had come to an end. I did pick up a load of later issues (late 1980s or 90s) at a pub auction.

When the Judge Dredd Megazine was unleashed, I collected it from issue one and bought it for several years. Some cracking stuff in there. I have a few Dredd collections in book form too.

I wonder if the Dredd film will lead to further 2000 AD characters hitting the cinema. Strontium Dog and Rogue Trooper would be ace!

Greetings.
Rogue Trooper and SD are not Ace. Ace is Ace, Rogue is Rogue and Alpha is
alive.
