Title: looking for an old prog - can anyone help?
Post by: tortoise on 26 October, 2010, 10:02:04 AM
In 1977,1978 I used to buy 2000AD (I was about 10years old). In one of the early progs (maybe around prog 20 to 40 although I am not sure about this) there was a competition in which you had to state the desirable attributes of a good Judge.
I entered the competition and a few weeks later I recall that my name was printed as one of the 'runner-ups'. Needless to say I no longer have the prog in which my name was printed, but now that I am in my 40s, I would be interested in buying that prog.
Can anyone help in advising me which prog to look out for?
Thanks.

Good morning!

As it happens, we have a boarder here who is astoundingly nerdy- even for a comics board, I'm I'm sure he can help you out.

Buttonman! Where are you??

I'm currently in the process of selling up my collection of 2000ADs and I've probably still got a copy of that issue - when we've worked out which one it was! I've certainly got copies of most of the pre-100 progs ready to list on eBay...

I'll have a look tonight to see if I can find the competition you're talking about... it might be helpful if you PM'd me the name to look for in the results...

I never even got a mention in any of the competitions I entered!  :-[

The Beast has all letters, drawings and jokes ever published in 2000ad and the Magazine. Alas the government spending review put paid to the funding that would have allowed all competition winners to be indexed.

Still the best of its kind!

The timorous Beastie has all letters, drawings and jokes ever published in 2000ad and the Magazine, but not what you want.

Still, the third fail of its kind!

Fixed that for you  :D

Hmmmmm....
I've had a brief look through progs 21 to around 50 and I couldn't see the competition you mention. There was a "spot the number of Walter the Wobots" competition and a similar Star Wars "spot the number of X-wing fighters" competition spread across 2 issues. Closest thing was a design a Judge Dredd villain comp, but from what you say, that's not what you entered... do you reakon it might have been earlier than prog 21?
It'd be cool to find it for you...

Thank you for your time so far, but I must apologise for sending you on a bit of a goose-chase. I have found in the attic a stash of some old 2000ADs, and have seen that the competition was in prog 261 (so not as early as I had thought). I suppose the results of the competition would have been a few weeks later - if anyone has those later progs would you mind looking to tell me which one has the results. Thanks. (And once again I apologise for not finding this information sooner!)

LOL! I'm glad I didn't keep looking...

The results are in prog 271! I've got a copy if you want it... PM me if interested.

Thank you for the information, betel_UK.
I will treat myself to some nostalgia for Xmas and buy myself a copy. :)
