In Sunny Manc...who's up for it? :D
Register your interest here and we can try to arrange a date
Taking into account I have an 8 month old and another on the way
I'd certainly be up for it in principle. I live about an hour's drive away. I've got a couple of young 'uns as well though so need plenty of notice.

26th March sounds like a good start...2 days after pay day too so all good for me I reckon
I lead a sad and lonely life, so am available most dates. I'll be in London shouting at David Cameron on 26th March though.
One venue that we have to include in any pub crawl is the Fab Cafe just to check out all the cool geeky toys and stuff!

Well we will rule that date out then...we want a good turn out after all...yeah Fab Cafe would be a good starting point for sure...that old Star Wars death star arcade game is a must ;)

Eek. I've got 26th March pencilled in to take the kids up to the Dr Who Experience at the O2-(it being the sixth anniversary of NuWho and all) which may be buggered if there's some kind of massive demo thing going on. What's all this about then?
SBT
Big demo planned Buses from all over coming, My union bus sets of from Edinbra early that day:

It's organised by TUC. All the unions are hiring fleets of coaches, I'm trying to blag a seat on one of the Uniosn buses, even though I'm not a member - They say it'll be the biggest demo since the massive anti-war one in '03.

Well I can probably make any weekend with 3 weeks notice - any preferences
Looks like 19th March is also no good for me - My brother's organised a surprise party for my mum's 80th.

Good for me.
cool
somebody needs to recap the five w's here!!
Where -Manc (liverpool is better for ale but Manc decided previously)
More precise start lunch @ the English Lounge (or if cutting costs at 'spoons on picadilly gardens) say meet 1 then eat 2 - handy for comic shops & that row of Indy pubs by afflecks?
Proceed to buy comics or beer in the combination you desire
Perfect night has me staggering onto a train latter in the day (ok night) having sank my last few in the Sailsbury.
9 April anyone ?

I'm not that fussed about eating out first, was thinking more of a mid-point nosh (or a drunken kebab!). English Lounge is really nice, but a bit dear and a bit far from the other spots

Are you thinking of Dry Bar and Night & Day on Oldham Street? Good choices, close to FP and Travelling Man. (The only pub next to Afflecks that I can think of is the Unicorn, which is a real old men's pub.). From there we could hit Fab Cafe (which doesn't open till about 3.30 I think) on the way to Oxford Road.

Even better choice! Great little pub (with several other good ones on the doorstep) and a five minute stagger to my bed after!
I'd love to squeeze the Briton's Protection on to the list somewhere, but it's a bit off the route.
2nd or 9th April are good for me.
I think i am thinking of the Oldham st pubs - well kick off at one of those - this okay with other Norts ?
9th April is fine..no chance about Night & Day though..it's about a fiver a pint!!
If we meet up in Dry Bar..everyone knows where that is..then I'll take you to a few cool boozers in the area which you won't need to remortgage your house for a drink..should definitely end up at Fab..maybe via one of the smallest pubs in the UK..The Circus Tavern!!

I'd ordinarily be on this opportunity for a piss-up like a shot, but as I'm extraordinarily skint and conserving funds for a holiday in May (after which I may well be jobless once more), I'm going to have to hold fire. Bum...

How bizarre, I'll be making my first visit to Manchester on April 9th.
I'll be there with a friend to see King's X play at the Academy. Both being ale drinkers we hope to visit the MArble Arch Inn too.
Cool, we must try to join up at some point. It's quite a few years since I've been in the Marble Arch as it's the other side of the town centre from me, but I do remember the fine range of beers and the floor that slopes towards the back, making it progressively harder to leave, as it's uphill. This was our usual meeting pub for gigs at Band on the Wall in it's heyday.
But there are also good real ale pubs much closer to the Academy.

Excellent, can you recommend some?
Our paths may cross, I'll make sure I have a 2000AD badge on at least, for ID purposes.
I don't know what time we will get to Manchester but we hope to have a few pints and maybe a curry before the gig. The next day we are heading to Wolverhampton for the next gig.
The Briton's Protection (http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=britons+protection+manchester&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a), near to the Bridgewater Hall and Deansgate Station, is a lovely old fashioned pub with Tetley, Cumberland and Robinson's Unicorn as regulars, with 2 other guest ales, plus a 7% cloudy scrumpy that's a killer, and a huge selection of over 220 whiskys.
Closer still is the Salisbury (http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/48/480/) (just off Oxford Rd by the railway arches and the steps up to Oxford Rd Station) is one of the pubs we're likely to visit. It's a biker-friendly pub with Theakston's and usually 2 or 3 guest ales.
Even closer towards the Academy, the Odder Bar is a quirky studenty venue oppsoite the BBC. It's all glitter, kitsch and moose-heads, but that also has a few nice guest ales.
For a great curry you want to keep going down Oxford Rd PAST the Academy and on to the famous Curry Mile of Rusholme.
timed out: The Odder Bar (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/place?hl=en&newwindow=1&safe=off&client=firefox-a&hs=cvg&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=odder+bar+manchester&fb=1&gl=uk&hq=odder+bar&hnear=Manchester,+Greater+Manchester&cid=13927952746606871449)
Great Dan, thanks for that. I'll make a note of those and maybe check some out. As for the curry mile, we have to go there.
Ok...so as it stands...meet up at Dry...what time?
Then we can do a couple of bars round the Northern Quarter...maybe over to the Circus Tavern on Portland St then maybe we can bob over to the temple?(Best jukebox in manc) then maybe Pevril on the Peak? followed by the British Protection...then back to finish in Fab Cafe?
What do you reckon?
Shall we say 1pm in Dry bar? Then we can visit FP and Travelling Man (any other shopping venues that people would like to visit? Afflecks? Hermans?) and then do the Portland St/Oxford Rd pubs.
I approve of your other pub suggestions. The Temple is a very cool little bar. The Peveril was shut a while ago, but may be re-opened now. I think it's changing owners.

If you see anyone in a 2000ad T-shirt, it'll probably be one of us - if it isn't, invite them along anyway!
Look out for a beard'n'beerbelly combo in a Nemesis T-shirt, that'll be me!
Cool - ill have only dissecting worlds T shirt & a Detroit tigers baseball cap.

A dozen, how dare you DDD, we had 14 at the last one and one was female!
We know how to sort a gathering out down here ;)
I will be in Manchester for the King's X gig on Saturday but I don't know what time yet. I've written down the suggested pubs and if our paths cross I'll say hello and maybe hang around for a bit, depends on what my mate wants to do too and how our day goes.

Yes there is - them Geordies etc are almost Scottish, so the road and rail system is designed to encourage them Northwards, to drink and rut with their peers, rather than South and West, safely away from decent folk (though I'd make an exception for Stacey if she wanted to come)! :D

Ok just hurtled past Trafford park might be a few minutes late
Just staggered home. A wonderful day out!
It was great to meet Kehaar, Beeks and Krombasher.
Freaked to find out that me and Krom were getting pissed in the same small bar last night without knowing who each other was!
We had a few early ones in the Dry Bar, before doing some comic shopping (except Kehaaar. Catchphrase: "HOW much was that? I can get that cheaper"). Amazed to find out that the girl behind the counter in Travelling Man was the colourist on Kingdom, though it was her colleague who had to big her up, she was too shy and modest.
We discovered a new shop too, Which I promised I'd say nice things about online: Cineheroes (http://mancunianmatters.co.uk/content/manchester-sci-fi-scene-welcome-new-shop-open-arms) on Lever Street. They're guys who usually trade at the comic fairs, but have decided to open a shop too. Nice guys, some good deals, check 'em out!
That was folloewed by more beer in the Circus Tavern, the Temple (whereupon Beeks was ordered home by the missus) and the Salisbury. I now think I need a little nap.
Besides all the bitchy gossiping about the rest of you guys, the most important topic of the day was ....Just what does rice actually look like in the paddy field?
That's a great story about bumping into the colourist on Kingdom in Travelling Man!
Sounds like a great day! :)
'twas a cracking Arvo out despite travelling too the dark side.
But enough about that let's talk about rice...
Was a great day yesterday..everyone was great company and we had a good few laughs
Unlike the southern shandy drinking division it was a case of quality not quantity ;)

Glad you all had a great time.
I did get to Manchester but never left Oxford Road and the Curry Mile.
The King's X gig at Academy 3 was amazing (as they always are) and we had some fine ale and a good curry too.
My only comic type thing of the weekend was buying The Taxidermist in Forbidden Planet in Wolverhampton the next day. Another great King's X gig there and went to the soundcheck too as we bumped in to the bass player/singer wandering the streets of Wolverhampton and he invited us in.
I enjoyed my short time in two streets in Manchester and hope to return one day to see some more.
