Hey fellow boarders and creators, please follow the link to see how you can support a wonderful cause by using your gifts as creators, or donating signed comics, books etc...
http://waynesimmons.org/blog/?p=368
I've written a four page Jikan script for this. It's only four pages long so I was thinking maybe four artists might want to do a page each. I've also used virtually no dialogue in case fellow scribes would like to add a few words here and there. I was thinking that the finished pages might get auctioned off for this cause.
I've emailed DaveyC and he's cool with the idea. So, if any creators are interested in this, drop me an email and I'll send you the script.
I'll draw something for it - !
I'm trying to post the full script here, but Firefox keeps crashing - bear with me...
I'm up for it, email sent.
filip
I've posted the script on the Jikan Chronicles thread: http://www.2000adonline.com/forum/index.php/topic,31321.new.html#new
but I'll also email it in MSWord format to anyone who wants a copy.
Good stuff!
I've written a script for the Comic Book Alliance charity book.
I'd definitely be up for doing a page of the Jikan story if there are any left.
Failing that, if anyone else needs an artist, as long as it's not too long, I'll do something else.
I just had a thought...
What do you think of doing something similar to the Secret Project? As many squaxx and droids as possible do a page and I'll put contributor/public copies online to download for free - but there will be one printed copy which will be auctioned on ebay with profits going to the Japan fund? Just a thought. (I don't know what's happened to the latest "Get Well Carlos" project as I'm not running that one, but I reckon this might be a goer if anyone's interested...)
Ok, that's Foxy, Flip and Lee so far on Jikan art duties. (I think Dave will want to do a page as well, but he's away from his pc most of the day so I don't know.) I'll post more details once I've contacted Dave.
Any writers want to add anything to the script? (Editing is allowed!)
Shark, this is an excellent idea! Just one thing to be aware of, though - the auctions kick off on 28th so you've a VERY tight schedule...
Other thing to remember is that you can put yourself and your time up for auction: so droids may be able to auction off portrait services, or even the promise of doing a cover for the front of a zine or self-published comic...
That might make the timescale more manageable for any creators who are tied up in the immediate future?
lol I'd put my time up for auction but I don't think I'd even fetch 50p :O
Ok, I'll make an executive decision on the Jikan story, given the time constraints:
Page One: Foxy
Page Two: Flip
Page Three: Lee B
Page Four: Dave C (unconfirmed)
When you've inked your pages, post them off to Hoo Haa for his auction. I'll print out a hard copy of the script, sign it and post that off as well so it can be included in the bundle for auction.
Hoo, what's the absolute latest you should receive the pages? (And can you PM me your snailmail?)
Is that all right with everyone?
I'll pitch in the lettering if you'd like, Mr Shark...
Cheers!
Jim
That's brilliant Jim, thanks! The script's on the Jikan Chronicles thread ( http://www.2000adonline.com/forum/index.php/topic,31321.15/topicseen.html ) or email me if you'd like a MS Word version.
Ta!
If any other artists would like a go at the Jikan script, just pick a page and do it - it's all for a good cause so different versions of the same page would add value to the auction. Especially if any droids would like to chip in...
Just a thought.
Shark, it isn't actually me organising it, but I do have a contact address. Let me check that it's good to give out and I'll pass it to you:
(From the website: http://genreforjapan.wordpress.com/who-we-are/):

This is our chance to extend that generosity to the people of Japan.

Robert Mulligan is a graphic designer and photographer. He designed the Genre for Japan logo.
Thanks, Hoo.
I was thinking of getting allthe pages posted to me then I can send the whole bundle off to whoever's organizing the auction. Or I could just auction it off myself on ebay and send the money to the charity in question.
I'm just making this up as I go, so if anyone has a better idea, I'm all ears...
You're a star, Shark! And it's all cool - I think everyone's making it up as they go along: that's part of the beauty of something like this! :)
I've sent a link to this thread to the organisers and asked them to advise us - I would imagine they'll say that you should send the completed comic directly to the winning bidder, but will finalise that with you.
Meanwhile, I would suggest all those volunteering get stuck in! :)
Dammit - I'd LOVE to pitch in on this. But present circumstances and my schedule prevent me.
I really hope this is a blast for everybody.
Jim - would you like to do the titles as well?
If so, you'll need to liaise with CrazyFoxMachine on P1 and El Chivo on P4. (Not quite sure how all this is going to work out exactly, yet as I'm making this up as I go...
Great to have Jim onboard with this!
It would be really cool to have another couple of droids onboard, of course...
Glad to see this has so quickly been taken up - thanks to Shark for coming up with the idea and setting the ball rolling.
I'll do a variant page of page 2 if that's ok?
Any droids have the time to chip in to that one-off book idea? I'm damned sure I'll be bidding for it!
If there's any interest in the one-off book idea I'll start a separate thread because we won't get it finished for the 28th.
"I'll do a variant page of page 2 if that's ok?"
He's your character, Dave, so you can do anything you want!!
GENRE FOR JAPAN have officially greenlit this idea, guys, with bidding to start at £25 for the finished product.
I'll let Shark spread the rest of what they had to say with you, but they're really excited by it!
Nice!
Good work everyone, I've done what I can to spread the word.
I might as well highjack this thread to include a link to Japan Needs Heroes, a Kickstarter project to produce a comic book, with all proceeds going to those in need in Japane:
www.kickstarter.com/projects/1932174840/japan-needs-heroes
Deadline for Jikan: Flood art to reach me: March 31st (a week tomorrow). (Forget the lettering for now, post me the art then I'll scan it and get Jim to do his magic later...)
Still no droids on board yet - I'm sure they're just biding their time 'til they pounce... ;)

Sorry for the late reply -- having a manic week. Yeah -- titles, credits, logos, whatever are also fine...
Cheers!
Jim
Thanks, Jim :)
Not sure if it's strictly neccessary to do this but I thought I'd post the design I've done for the demon which appears on page 3. As I'm drawing it's first appearance, I thought it might be useful for the sake of continuity.

I'm not doing this so it can be copied really, it just might look weird if Jikan is fighting a wildly different looking demon on page 4.
Would offer to help out on this one but it seems like you have it all under control (or at least the parts I might be able to help with). Good luck guys!
Lovely demon, Lee!

Cool, was gonna drop u a line about this, but i'll just update my demon to look more like yours (yours looks cooler anyway!)
Cheers

If anyone was thinking about contributing to the Genre for Japan but was looking for inspiration I noticed the term "nuclear samurai" being used for the workers trying to stop the reactors from going critical but haven't been able to come up with anything useful in the short time left, so I thought I'd throw it open to all:
www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/mar/21/nuclear-samurai-fukushima-japan-reactor
good luck with this guys!
A damned fine demon indeed!
I'll bet there are some Kappas who'd love to show up somewhere in the b.g., you know, rooting Jikan on and all.
Hey Shark, I can do something up after this weekend if you want/need it? If your interested PM me and we can POW WOW ;)

Chivo and Davey, great work! I've just finished my page, I'll send it tomorrow.
Leigh Gallagher has a tasty offer:

But in the meantime, please head to the Genre For Japan website, whose charity auction begins tomorrow! You can bid for cool items as varied as signed books, having your manuscript critiqued by an editor, or even appearing as a character in a novel!
I'm contributing the prize of your favourite 2000AD character drawn A3 size (black/white, single character, no background). Item number 99. (http://genreforjapan.wordpress.com/2011/03/25/item-99-a3-drawing-of-your-favourite-2000ad-character-by-leigh-gallagher/)
The auction ends on Sunday 3rd April.
As you know, I got engaged last November in Tokyo, so I'd really like this auction to go well!
GO BID!!!

Minimum bid £30.

Very impressed, guys! Well done! :)
Foxy and Flip-r! Excellent stuff! It's all looking surprisingly coherent despite everyone's different styles.
I neglected to scan my page before I sent it. You should get it this morning Sharky, will you do the honours? We'll be able to see the full set then.
Exciting!
Nice page, Foxy!
This is coming together really well, can't wait to see the missing piece!

Agreed! What a catch this bad boy will make! :)
Well that reads pretty well - well done everybody!
Especially well done to the Shark for pulling this together - you are truly Legendary!
Are you Dropboxing or e-mailing me high-res versions of those for lettering, Ledge?
Cheers!
Jim
Hi Jim,
I don't think there'll be time to get the lettering done before the auction. What I'll do is hang fire on that for now and get in touch with you about it later - if and when we find a place to publish the whole story. Sorry to muck you about like that - this all happened so quickly that I really didn't know what I was doing.
That's luverly that is. Nice work all!

Not wanting to intrude, guys, but the auction goes on until Sunday. And I'd say you have a little grace after that. Plus, if it was me who won the item, I would be cool about hanging on a bit while you finished it...
Four pages, including a title block is no real work at all, chaps. If you've got scans I can have, I can get it lettered and back to you before Sunday.
Cheers
Jim
Good too see the four pages together(Arsom art Lee),who'd have thought that you could get five artists to finish the art ahead of schedule. :D

Shark,did the page arrive.

Yes thanks (and very nice it is too!). Just waiting for Foxy's to arrive then I'll get some good scans of them all and fire them over to Jim for lettering.
Jim, what kind of size/resolution/format do you prefer?

Jim, what kind of size/resolution/format do you prefer?
300dpi grayscale or bitmap TIFF at actual/printed size (A4 presumably?)... LZW is fine to keep the file sizes down.
Cheers!
Jim
Thanks for that - I'll probably email them over to you tomorrow.
Mine didn't arrive yet?!
Not yet. Probably tomorrow (hopefully!).
Frazer Irving cover for the Solaris novel Kultus:

The last pieces of art arrived this morning and the whole bundle has been posted off to the Genre for Japan Nerve Centre.

No worries.
Bidding is going well so far:
Leigh Gallagher - £100
Frazer Irving - £35 (with Al Ewing and the author of the book in the bidding war)
Al Ewing - £150 (including Paul Cornell trying to sneak in there!!)
Sharky - £50
Wayne - got a bit confusing but the 3 highest bids are £30, 35 and 40
Which is already pretty damn impressive. Fingers crossed the extra attention brings a few more bids in.
Emp, thanks for the promotion!
I think us boarders did very well, all in. £440 if my maths ain't failing me. Everyone invloved, whether through bidding, pimping or donating their time or energy, should feel very proud indeed.
The results are in! Over £11K raised so far, so HUGE congratulations to all involved!
