Looks like Der Kran.
Health and safety need to have a word with that crane erector, oo-er missus. That's how we'll defeat da alien spider thingy menace. Bureaucracy.
What's all this about then? hmm!
Oooooooh! This could almost be like an unofficial follow on to ID4 , Battle:LA or any similar films - what would happen IF the U.S. never beat them by the closing credits...
Hopefully channel 5 will show it.
Oh god, not another alien invasion film.
It's a new TV show if I read it correctly?
Its a TV show. Executive Produced by Steven Spielberg. As I understand it, its about a human resistance moment after the Earth has been invaded by extraterrestrials. The previews all look pretty interesting.
well if i can sit through The Event and V I'm sure i can give this a go, previews look pretty good so far and all pretty stablished actors to.
CU Radbacker
All hail the Mighty FX HD channel as they are going to be showing this :D
It starts on 5th July 21:00 and here's (http://fxuk.com/shows/falling-skies/videos) a 5 minute clip for you and look, decent bloody aliens :o
120mintues of stale dialogue, bobbins acting and wide-angled shots of herds of gap-clad people looking dishevelled. A hero who constantly cites historical analogies in the most clumsy of fashions and surplus of cringe-inducing 'father-son bonding slow-mo shots' that make one realise just how good Dr Who's recent whizz-bang run has been. A Speilberg-Schmaltz-fest
Nice alien stuff tho and the two new characters in ep02 are terrible cliches but at least they command the screen.

An odd mix of Norman Rockwell and War of the Worlds... and such a thin plot that when it finished I assumed I'd only watched the first episode, not both of the two part opener.
This should maybe be in the pedantic thread, but I got fed up with it when the supposed military history expert said that history was full of inferior forces holding out against superior invaders, like the Scots against the British at Stirling Bridge :o
"cites historical analogies in the most clumsy of fashions" indeed.
It's the Walking Dead with aliens, but less enjoyable. But what do I know, I'm off to watch more Sanctuary.
I'd say it was the worst alien invasion thing ever, but I saw Skyline recently. Oh dear.
Just caught the trailer. Worth a watch to see how it pans out.
V
they defo forgot to photoshop in the bottom left support leg of that there alien thingy on the poster. Sums up the whole program.
Just watched last nights episode (season 1 ep 1) and cant say its impressed me...still early days but it doesnt seem to be anything we haven't seen before :(
Is the huge alien spacecraft/construct/mothership towering over a city type scenario getting just a little tired and overdone now ?
I think my dad inadvertently nailed the main problem with this show after watching the first three episodes and then asked if it was the second season. The show feels like something knocked out when it got unexpectedly renewed for a second season just after the writers had gone "fuck it, not like we'll ever have to follow it up" with the season 1 finale. You know, like V or The Event did. Thanks for the respect, show writers!
Despite it not being spectacular, I do like Falling Skies in the same way I liked Jeremiah, and unlike other genre shows the aliens are proper aliens without being extradimensional wibbly-wobbly energy beings or something. They're a proper physical presence in the story in much the same way the Tripods were, even though a budget-friendly slave race of human children is a huge part of the main plot. Not keen on the only female characters who physically join the war being either potential or actual rape survivors, though, and the resistance is oddly keen to hand their kitchen over to the leader of a group of gang-rapists who already murdered at least one resistance fighter, and Dr Carter doesn't exactly look like to be in his forties even sporting a mountain man beard and scraggly hair and Sarah Carter is still damn hot no matter how much she rolls about in the dirt before a take because the pretty people are still pretty people even in the face of armageddon - but it's a decent enough romp, all told.
"the resistance is oddly keen to hand their kitchen over to the leader of a group of gang-rapists who already murdered at least one resistance fighter"
Ah, but he was in Stargate, so the audience will accept that, in some utterly non-sensical unconnected way.
Also, what the hell's wrong with putting paprika on chicken?
I enjoyed the 3rd episode more. As for the "second season" thing, I suspect we may be in for some flashbackiness at some point. I do agree that the aliens themselves are great looking. So I'll keep watching I think.
And yes, the alien ship/milking stool over the city thing is getting a tad old, especially given that it's arrived right on the back of V, Skyline, etc etc etc.

I watched episode one and kept thinking is this episode one? or have i missed a pilot episode? im determined to give it a few more episodes before i decide whether to continue watching or drop it.
On the up side ing dead season 2 doesnt look to far away :)
watched the first two and meh, still will watch tho til it becomes really tedious... already think ive sorted the big reveal about the harnessed kids
i reckon theyre the two legged mechs
Late to the falling skies party, so apologies for thread zombification.
i was expecting it to be a smaltz fest seeing speilberg's name involved but was surprised to see it was such a 'skipper'.
tips for first five episodes. watch with remote in hand.
1. if beardy hero is in the same room with his youngest child fast foward, you will miss NOTHING.
2. if a group of people are walking somewhere fast forward.you will miss NOTHING.
3. if, after a small action piece, the heroes return to the base with about ten minutes of the episode to go then just start another episode, all you will miss is people looking at the wall or saying grace or chatting crap.
4. if you hear a piano starting skip[ a few minutes.
I'm all for people talking about things over an over (to a point) but this is so clunky it hurts my testiclay.
I'm onto episode 6 now and finding i am skipping less. the youngest even has a purpose other than making us cry 'won't someone think of the children.' in a mrs lovejoy a la the Simpsons way.
Oops. I wish I'd read your skipping instructions before now since I suppose there's a slim chance I have missed something. After watching some episodes I had taken to using a different set of instructions for the rest...
1) If it starts, skip forward, you will miss nothing.
2) If by some small chance you feel you've missed something, don't worry as you can always watch the whole of the next episode and realise that you missed nothing twice.
I'm not entirely sure how you go off a show you're watching because it's not very good, but that's where I am with Falling Skies right now. I'd be here all day listing how aggressively banal it's become in the second season, but for a couple of examples, there's a "shock death" of a character who I don't think actually had any lines this whole season, a character who already had grim backstory to mine for potential drama - she was gang-raped under instructions from another member of the cast - gets even more angst added to her backstory in order to explain why she's reluctant to get close to someone because apparantly close proximity to your rapist on a daily basis doesn't give you issues, so she's now a runaway, then seconds later she's also a cancer survivor, then seconds later she's a junkie, then seconds later a teenage mum, then a jailbird - there is no punchline here, this is all played deadly straight, yet also shockingly boring because it doesn't actually result in any new storylines or drama beyond what was already in play, and there's a bit of tentacle hentai in the season finale but this one bloke keeps his baseball cap on the whole time and for some reason I found this hilarious - but too little, too late, Falling Skies
Only took me two seasons to see it, but yeah, this is a pretty terrible show. The tie-in comic is okay, though.
I've been enjoying the second series a lot more than the first. Totally agree about the rape victim/junkie/criminal/hopeless case yet still attractive apparently lass. Dunno what the guy was supposed to say. I'd have been all like "So what? There's fucking ALIENS out there killing and enslaving everyone! You think I give a fuck about you being a scumbag junkie and losing a kid? Quit whining FFS!"
Anyway, the action's been a lot better recently (up till that episode) but it does always come back to its Walking Dead stylee soap opera crap.
Oh, and Dredd trailer was on during it!
Just watched season 2 finale and what a cliffhanger! Roll on season 3 to see where they are taking it.
Is that the one where the lizardy blokes from Mass Effect show up?
