Well as well as another in the series of live action Asterix films, the latest one brining him to these shores in a film of Asterix in Britain called (at them moment at least) "Astérix and Obélix: God Save Britannia"

As featured in that piece there also going to be a new CGI film and from this morning article on Bleedin' Cool the still at least look fantastic.

Lets hope they get some half decent distribution in the UK this time.

If you people would only stop pausing to drink cups of hot water (with a little milk) these things would move faster.
I used to love the Asterix comics as a kid. (I only actualy own one though, strangely. I got the others from the library.) I haven't read them in a while but I'm sure I'd still like them as the humour works on different levels.
I don't think I've seen the original live action film all the way through, but I remember not liking it very much, so I'm not too sure of yet another. I look forward to the CG film though.

I adored the books, then and and now, because as Mardroid says they work on numerous levels. I've never seen any sort of filmed version (although I have vague memories of seeing the eponymous Soothsayer (who always terrified me) on telly once), mainly because the level I enjoy now is the ingenious wordplay of the English translations, which I just can't imagine working if spoken - particularly if looped over the very different French versions. I need to pronounce these things in my head for them to be funny. I'm going to allow the animated one a chance, purely because it does look gorgeous.
I wish I spoke French.
Trailer for the new Asterix film over at Bleeding Cool.

By the sound though looks like we'll have to wait for the DVD as of yet no UK release planned?
From memory wasnt the first film translated by some of the Monty Python guys? And very loosely translated as well. More "Just make words fit the actions" ?
I might be making that up but have it in my head that was the case.
Yeah it was done by Terry Jones and there was a lot of debate (well a lot might be over stating it but some) about how true it was to the original intent.
That looks great and a bit of an all star cast for those who know their French cinema!
But yeah, I guess we'll have to wait for the dvd as I don't think the previous ones have had a cinema release
Saws the first two in this great Independent Cinema in Sheffield, but the last one alas no. In France they are of course absolutely massive. I think the first was France's highest grossing film or some such.
It's a shame the English speaking world hasn't embraced Asterix. I've loved Asterix since I was a child. It helps that I also speak French though.
