Irish Comic News, a great site that covers the comics scene on both sides of the Irish border, announces the 2011 ICN Awards and is open for nominations! (http://"http://www.irishcomicnews.com/2011-irish-comic-news-awards-nominaton-voting/")
There are categories for creators and comics in the self-published, mainstream publication and web fields, as well as for websites and comic shops, and a Hall of Fame section. so if you want to nominate Garth Ennis for his US-published stuff, Davy Francis for his work on classic UK kids' comic
Oink!, Anna Fitzpatrick for her gorgeous digital painting on
Between Worlds (http://"http://betweenworldscomic.com/"), or John Robbins (http://"http://www.downrightbockedy.comix.org.uk/front.html") for his hard hitting shorts and self-published anthologies - or, indeed, for me (http://"http://paddybrown.co.uk/") - please feel free.
And if you're struggling to think of who to vote for, why not browse the Irish Comics Wiki (http://"http://irishcomics.wikia.com/wiki/Irish_Comics_Wiki") for ideas? But Irish creators who have worked for Tooth and the Meg include:
- Bob Byrne
- Michael Carroll
- Rufus Dayglo
- Garth Ennis
- Charlie Gillespie
- PJ Holden
- John McCrea
- Len O'Grady
- Kilian Plunkett
- Dermot Power
- Hilary Robinson
- Will Simpson
Then there's Richmond Clements of Zarjaz, David McDonald & Co from Hibernia Press...
Very cool!
Van Dom's mag can be nominated as well, right? Maybe I'll have to do that...
Absolutely - Dirk's Vanguard is definitely eligible.
Vote for me!
Nominations are now closed, and voting proper can begin (http://www.irishcomicnews.com/icn-awards-2011-voting-open/).
Well, I've placed my incredibly biased votes.
Hey guys!
I know you will all be voting for Mike Carroll, PJ Holden and Numbercruncher in the "mainstream" sections of this, but while you are doing that - if it pleases you - you might consider throwing myself and my comic a wee vote in the self-published categories.
Not that I stand a chance of getting anywhere as I'm just the new kid on the block compared to all the other more established nominees, but I'd like to make a reasonable showing all the same!
Would really appreciate it guys.
Thanks a lot! :)
Dirk
You got my vote, if you don't ask, you don't get ;)
Only a few days to go... Please vote for me! It's extremely important to me that I win this, for reasons I'm not yet at liberty to divulge.
In fact, it's almost a crime against the Galaxy's Greatest Comic not to vote for me and all the other 2000AD creators in the other categories*. The more categories won by 2000AD creators, the higher the comic's profile. Higher profile means greater sales, thus ensuring the longevity of your favourite comic.
-- Mike
* Except Garth Ennis. You can vote for him in the Hall of Fame category - unless you're going to vote for Bob Byrne in that one - but not in the Best Mainstream Published Irish Writer category, because that's the only one I'm in.
Done and done.... tho very upset there isnt a "Nicest man in Irish comics" award :D

Seconded!
Last day for voting!

Crap. Didn't win the coveted "BEST MAINSTREAM PUBLISHED IRISH WRITER" category. Didn't even come second, according to the note on the Irish Comic News website (http://www.irishcomicnews.com/news-irish-comic-news-awards-2011-winners/)! :(
Thanks for everyone who voted for me, though, and well done to the winners. Lucky sods.
Still, at least I was shortlisted, which means that my name now appears twice on the Irish Comic News website (the other time is a mention by Richmond Clements - thank, Rich!).
-- Mike the bitterly disappointed but trying not to show it
Shame about the loss there Mr Carroll - I voted for you!
Chuffed for Mike Lynch - good chap and writer of my first strip in Zarjaz!
Some worthy winners there...although, yes, Mr Carroll was indeed robbed!
Like Mike, I'm glad to have been nominated for this and thanks to all who did. :)
I voted for you too Mike - Damn that Ennis!
Never mind, Tharg loves ya baby!
Hard luck, Mike. I voted for you - very impressed how well you've handled a character that's defeated higher-profile writers. (Dredd, obviously.)
Congrats yourself Paddy, well deserved.
David
I want to congratulate each well deserved winner.
I want to, but bitterness and resentment will prevent me from doing so.

Instead of starting a new topic, I figured I might as well be environmentally friendly and reboot this one...
The 2012 Irish Comic News Awards (http://www.irishcomicnews.com/2012/11/icn-awards-2012-voting-now-open/) are now open for voting!
2000AD droids in the shortlists include PJ Holden, Brendan McCarthy, John McCrea and myself...
Voting closes on November 16th!
-- Mike
Voted for PJ, John and your good self. Go get it this time Mike!
Cheers, John! :)
Voted!
Hope this years more fortunate foryer ;)
it was going to be hard to choose between PJ and Brendan McCarthy - till I noticed Brendan was in another category, so i could vote for 'em both (as well as Mike of course).
Sorry Mr McCrea, just not enough votes to go round!
Carroll/Holden in 2012. Vote early, vote often.
Although Shalvey's current work is giving PJ a run for his money, I gave him the nod via Thunderbolts instead.
Some interesting blogs and webcomics in that list that I'd never heard of. Ex-cellent.
Voted!
Carroll, Holden and McCarthy. Good luck.
Today's the last day of voting for the 2012 awards...
If you haven't yet voted, please do so now! Please, please, please (etc.)

Much as I adore young Declan, isn't a wee bit early for the 'Hall of Fame'..?

Because you're not an eagle?

Resurrecting an old thread here, but I have to agree. If it was up to me, you'd only be eligible for the Hall of Fame category if you were dead - it should be there to honour the greats of the past, not contemporaries who are eligible for the other awards. I think I'll have a word with Tommie about it - I'll suggest making the other awards an open vote as they are now, but for the Hall of Fame have a selection of nominees nominated by a panel for the voters to choose from.
