Title: Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter (2012)
Post by: Goaty on 13 February, 2012, 04:49:58 PM
Here the trailer from the Director of Wanted (love that film) and Day/Night Watch films

This does looks like one of 2000AD stories; Dafoe 1966?

I agree, I think they might have actually made a decent film from what sounded like a stupid concept.

At least it isn't FDR: American Badass. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-R898wegx6Y

Lincoln is in this one as well, and he's played by Kevin Sorbo. Why not just cut out the middleman and dump on Lincoln's grave, producers of FDR: American Badass?

And why does Ray Wise have to do pap like this? Stupid Twin Peaks being all ahead of its time when TV stars never ever became movie stars...

As Tharg is my witness, I will see this film.

The scary thing is, this isn't the expected mockbuster from The Asylum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Asylum), that is going to be Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies:

www.shocktillyoudrop.com/news/165583-new-photos-from-abraham-lincoln-vs-zombies

The sad thing is it won't be half as awesome as FDR: American Badass, they should really invest a modest amount of time in making their movies interesting instead of just trying to confuse people with a similar name. Being an ERB fan I thought I should give Princess of Mars (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Princess_of_Mars) a spin and now if Jim could fix anything for me it'd be to punch the producers and director.

Really?
Must be a sign I'm getting old but the trailer for this and Amazing Spider-man just had me bemoaning the sorry state of many films today where they just try and pummel you into liking them.

It's interesting how different people react to these things.

The trailer came on the telly at work last week* and my co-worker was disgusted at the fact this historical figure was depicted fighting vampires. It was as if she found the idea of such an iconic personage involved in something like that degrading, or something. (She does likes Twilight though so she's not against vampire films so much... albeit that kind seem to be sparkly man-toys. To be fair, i haven't seen any of the Twilight films so I shouldn't judge.)

To her credit, she said she may still watch it out of curiosity.

Personally I love the idea of taking a historical figure and portraying them with a hidden supernatural history. I liked Bubba Ho-tep, for example.

I can see how some might find that trailer a bit much, but I quite like it. A bit of hacky fun, and it's good to see vampires depicted as proper monsters.

*Yes, we have a telly in the computer room at the college where I work. Mind you it's a small private college, so the computer room doubles as a communal hall place. Which incidentally is part of the same room as reception where I'm located...
At the end of this movie, one of his bros offers him immortality but he turns it down. Then Mary Todd says "Come on, we're are late for the theater."
The film never overcomes its ridiculous premise.
Added to that a leaden plot (found my attention wandering on several occassions) and a climax that appeared cribbed from the movie Priest and you have a failure.

Why didn't they just film this? Would have got better reviews. I'm probably watch it eventually.

Anyway the film is doomed cos the vampires won. Look at Wall Street.

Sequels going to be pretty good too Jimmy Carter - The Alien Assassin

This film looks terrible - the concept would probably wear thin as a spoof trailer, let alone a full film.

Going tonight. Looks fun. Not expecting any more than the trailer indicates.
I've enjoyed the other stuff I've seen from the director has done so willing to give it a shot. It was that or Men in Black 3 TBH.

Reviews aren't too great but the few bad ones I checked seem more intent on showing you how intelligent and cultured the reviewer thinks he is rather than telling you if the movie is a laugh or not... so fuck 'em.

Oh, and FDR American Badass looks fucking AWESOME! As soon as its out I'm buying it and watching it as god intended... at 2am with a gang of mates and a shit load of beer.

Honest to say, it does looks like it got best Axe actions?

Well that was a lot of fun. With such a silly premise they actually take it all pretty seriously. Not TOO much obviously, it is an action adventure movie, but there's no winking at the camera. Action is all staged really well, theres a lot of cool fight scenes and they really made the most of the 3D. Very cool 3D effect on the vampire's eyes which I really liked.

Good cast too, but then I'm a big fan of Rufus Sewell and it's even got Alan Tudyk.  And of course Miss Winstead is as adorable as ever.

If you thought the trailer was balls you'll think the same of the movie, but if you thought it looked like a fun flick, it is.

Oh, and if any mods read this.
While it's not THE most surprising ending to a movie ever Mr Godpleton above, in what quite frankly is a staggeringly dickish move, has spoiled it.
Can this be put in a spoiler or just fucking deleted? Cheers.

I think you should stop that right there.
You have made this moronic claim before and when questioned about it, disappeared off the thread for a few days hoping people would forget.
If you want to peddle this shit, by all means do it on the political thread, but not here.

Just an afterthought Rich, you're not related to Carter at all are ya, seem to be a tad touchy on the subject, but sorry again, not for what I wrote (I stand by every barbed word of it), but wrong thread to write it on, my bad, carry on (regardless)...

Saw this last night.
Daft with plot holes you could ride a horse and cart through, but pretty good fun- I enjoyed it better than Prometheus. Of course, that's not saying much.
They didn't quite get there with the vampirism/slavery metaphor they were stretching for, but at least they tried.
