I'm edging closer to the publication of CITY OF DREDD 2134 (May) and WORLDS OF DREDD 2134 (July), timed to complement the release of the scrotnig new DREDD movie!

Both volumes are PDF, full colour and formatted for landscape tablet (or monitor) viewing. They are fully updated and have undergone a top-to-bottom edit. Best of all, they now contain many full colour maps! CITY OF DREDD has six, and WORLDS OF DREDD will feature as many as is necessary to span the entirety of Dredd's Earth, and outer space too!

Great news, although can anyone get these printed and bound nicely? I much prefer a hard copy.

Last time I priced up a colour hardcopy, it was £95 (each!). That was for 446 pages; the new edition is about 700.

The books split into a set of hardbacks would be acceptable also. Have you considered approaching Rebellion or Mongoose to publish it? They both have a vested interest in the product and some degree of experience with print work :)

Rebellion declined to publish CoD, citing potentially unsatisfactory sales potential.

I prefer digital, so it's no loss emotionally or creatively to me.

That's a shame though john- i was massively impressed with the paperback city of dredd, and both me and my eldest son have read it to bits. He even asked me to get him his own copy, and was disappointed when i told him that mine was the last copy ever printed. Though his sad face may have been more to do with the sight of his father caressing a book with strokey hands and laughing insanely.

Im sure you know what youre doing, but it'd be remiss of me to point out there are a number of publishers out there and a movie to cash in on coming in september. But i may well pick up the digital copies anyway, as one of these days im bound to get something other than a laptop to read them on.

Whatever, they're brilliant and i wish you the best of luck. Everyone with an interest in dredd should try them.

Did you see your book on display in the latest SFX, I put it in an easily seen position  ;)

In principle I'm of course very happy to produce a b/w hardcopy, but I'd need a minimum number of pre-orders to make it worth reformatting the books. They're presently approx 6wx10h inches and would require upsizing to US Letter-size and converting to 'portrait'.

Something like 200 advance orders for hardcopies* of both books (2x 200) would spur me on.

*A printed paperback version, NOT a hardback, just in case there's any confusion  ;)

Yes, there it is! How long did it take you to move that slice of your collection from the Cellar?

It took me an afternoon to drag it all up then a wee bit longer to sort it out and it stayed there over Christmas.

Good for some of the textile collectibles to see the light of day now and then. My STAR WARS toys are in a dark loft, sealed like techno-mummies in zip-bags inside 'Really Useful' boxes. Poor little buggers.

99.9% of these entries appear fleshed-out in the book; the rest are locales featuring in the background of stories with no narrative contribution.

The DIRECTORY will continue to be updated right until the day of CITY OF DREDD's publication.

was wondering what happened re Amazon seemingly printing up copies of City of Dredd without permission? I was talking to a colleague who is a german lawyer and he said that he had noticed the same thing happening with obscure legal textbooks. Fascinated to learn if you corresponded with them and what happened?

I e-mailed Lulu.com, who handled the distribution of CoD. They apologised and explained they had forgotten to inform Amazon that the book was out of print. Eventually, Lulu sent me the money they owed from a small number of sales off-site.

Excellent response from the forum as ever to my CJ's efforts.

I have to say I'm blown away by what John does.  The Progology and CoD are of untold use to me as a Game Judge on Play Dredd.

I've completed all the maps for CITY OF DREDD (2134). This is a preview of the basic template used for a particular map describing how all the city zones connect:

CITY OF DREDD is the largest JUDGE DREDD reference project ever undertaken. It documents all the localities and the events that occurred within them in MEGA-CITY ONE, Dredd's home.

The original edition of CITY OF DREDD was published in June 2011, in paperback and PDF formats. In 2012, a completely reformatted, edited and expanded update will be published in PDF format in May to tie-in with the cinematic release of DREDD, the second feature film centered on Judge Dredd's thrill-powered exploits.

CITY OF DREDD will be joined in July by WORLDS OF DREDD, a guide to all the locations beyond Mega-City One - on Earth, the Moon, the solar system, deep space and among the Otherdimensions.

You mentioned in forum posts last year that in the pdf there would be the full sized maps etc and that they would be great for us to be able to get printed professionally.
Do you have something in the pdf saying that this is allowable? Just I don't know if every printer would be happy printing something that would look like someones professional copyrighted work :)

I annoyingly missed the paperback (been out of things for far too long) but am now looking forwards to the new edition on pdf :)

The poster-sized maps are off the schedule for the time being, owing to lack of time to devote to them (the maps in the PDF, being approx 6x9 inches, would need to be redrawn and have lots of extra detailing added). Maybe in 2013?

I was considering running one... though not a Facebook one... but not enough time to keep a site up to date at the moment.

That's why my Roman game still hasn't taken off. Just not enough hours to set to doing it justice (pardon the pun).

But I'm still scripting Dreddworld stories, still using the last edition of CoD ;)

The Facebook idea works to keep the RPG in the public gaze, and it's easier to recruit new players/GMs.

I had some bother uploading the book's PDF... it crashed three times. Maybe there's site maintenance going on at weekends, then a backlog to process once the new week begins. Still annoying.

OK, so I've bought the pdf , downloaded the ebook reader from lulu.com, and can now read the file on my PC> How doI transfer the file onto my iPad?

Well, after a certain amount of wrestling with my erratic internet connection, Lulu's arcane practises and the hoops required to set up Adobe Digital Editions (I have been spoiled by the 2000adonline shop where you pays your money and gets your instant DRM-free PDF) I have my copy!  Wow, that's a lotta information.  It's going to take me all day just to scroll around bookmarking stuff I want to read. :D

The DRM is an experiment on my part, but if it proves a major hassle for readers, then it will be absent from any future editions of CITY OF DREDD/WORLDS OF DREDD.

My phone refuses to download it (was worth trying)

But it did arrive on PC... Forgot to say day it arrived, was too busy trading it.

hunans...  can tell I was on the phone...

About three years back my nephew was frontman for a Glam Rock band.  At a gig I emitted afore mentioned squeel... It starts high, goes higher & lasts a few seconds... People looked at him, accusingly, then saw it was the fat old man stood next to him...

No... it cannot be mistaken for a pig.  I am talking seriously high pitched, it causes discomfort in ears... THAT high pitched, pain to some...  Animals really hate it.

Change of publication schedule for WORLDS OF DREDD 2134. Sales for CITY OF DREDD 2134 are very sluggish. If sales do not improve radically, WORLDS OF DREDD 2134 will not be viable for a July release. Thanks for the review for CITY OF DREDD 2134 posted on the Lulu.com page! Reader Whitman Brookes notes rightly that some items have mistakenly been omitted. As always, if you find AWOL material and errata, get in touch via the CITY OF DREDD 2134 Facebook group and I'll make haste to correct all oversights in advance of the possibility of future editions. I will also post new material here, as and when it is published in the comics, novels, etc.

I wouldn't trust anything that Whitman Brookes tosspot writes...  ;)   but I see that City of Dredd has bumped up from a Lulu sales rank of 25 to 20.  Good to see, not least since I'm certainly looking forward to Worlds of Dredd.

Well, if the sales of the books ahead of CoD 2134 are relative to mine, they aren't shifting many  ;) Still, better up than down.
