Title: My Day of the Dead Art Gallery
Post by: SmallBlueThing on 13 April, 2012, 08:42:33 PM
Didn't know where to put this- here, or in Creative Common, or elsewhere. I figured here, as it's movie-related.

Anyway, a while back Graeme Neil Reid posted up a "sketch" (and it hurts to just type that- "sketch" indeed) of Bub from Day of the Dead.

Well, obviously, I had to have it. So I bought it, and it's now framed on the wall. This got me thinking about actually asking Graeme for a commission- so I did. And here it is!

I am blown away- really, really pleased. Can't wait to get this up on the wall. And to commission Graeme to do a few more!

Gorgeous stuff - full of character. John is particularly striking. So - Captain Rhodes and Steel next? "Steel, shoot that woman." - "Bang. You're dead!"

I was thinking Lori Cardille and Joe Pilato next, followed by Rickles and Steele. I love the style, the detail, the composition, everything about it. Doing little jumps of joy here!

Another one joins the group of commission hunters. Well done SBT, they look great and roll on the next in the collection!

Graeme's stuff's amazing. He does "warm-up sketches" when he starts work, then takes them to cons and sells them at £10 a go. Several of us were buying them at Hi-Ex. They're gorgeous.

I got a Doctor Who one and it's on my mantlepiece now.

They're damn fine, once you've got Day boxed off there is always Dawn or Night...

Which one is it that gets taken apart in the docking bay during the climax of Day..., Rickles or Steel, I know Rhodes
gets torn in half a little later
- did he say "hope you choke on it" or something like that, or am I remembering that line from somewhere else (it's been a while)? - and will we get a nice picture of THAT alongside those other nice sketches, which are very impressive by the way...?

I forget if he said that in the film (I think he did), but I do remember a character saying something similar in Dead Set in a scene which was pretty much a homage to THAT scene from Day of the Dead.

I think Day of the Dead* is my favourite of the Romero zombie films, although I've yet to see the latest.

And yes,  a very good drawing SBT. A good likeness.

*I think most people pick Dawn... which is a good choice.
