Seeing as there are likely to be quite a few of us making our way to the screening on Thursday, what say we see about getting together for a meet up before and after?
I'll be arriving at approx 4.30 and my train heads back up to the brum wastes at 11, so I am definately able to meet up and talk nonsense with Squaxx for a little while.
Who else is coming and where shall we meet? Food would be nice, but not essential.
I'll be around from early morning and going back the next day.

I know the area well so can recommend places to get food.

The Glasshouse on Brewer street is a good pub, and cheap (for London, anyway - it's a Samuel Smith's).

Never been to Wong Kei - I assume it's a rough and ready Chinatown kind of place?
I'd recommend a few other places nearby, such as the excellent Bodeans BBQ and Cha Cha Moon, but they're a little pricier. I'll just go with the flow.

2.5 hrs from Cardiff to London, drop bags at hotel, hit the Ship, watch Dredd, get mightily pissed with anyone with a mind to join me, head back to Cardiff midday the following day. :D

Let's see, 15 min walk to station, 56 min train journey, followed by a wander through London and last train back is just after 01:00. It's good being close to something for a change :lol:
10 min bus ride, few stops on the tube... but I don't have a ticket. :'(
I feel just how I did in infants school when teacher didn't pick me to assemble that Airfix lunar landing module that was sitting in the cupboard for months.
15 minute walk to station, 79 minute train journey to Victoria. Then the tube. :)
But I might not be hanging around too long afterwards as the last train back for me is 22.32 unless I get a train back to Horsham which is only a few miles away and get Mrs Albion to pick me up from there.

Had an absolute blast, thanks to Molch-R who I didn't get the chance to thank personally, Karl, John, Carlos making an entrance, and Alex of course, as well as the people from Entertainment UK.
As for the film, fantastic - Karl gets Dredd so well it is uncanny and has a convincing relationship with Olivia Thirlby. Not a foot wrong in the casting, and the interior space of the block looks amazing.
The sound mix is superb, but without spoiling anything there are so many Dredd moments which will have a fan grinning from ear-to-ear, and it never flags.
Can't wait to see it again on the largest screen I can find.
It was slightly surreal but lovely seeing all the boarders in one place.
On the bus back to Hackney now, the night went by in a bit of a blur, don't think I've really come back down to earth yet. pretty much everything a fan could ask for, all in one night.
Sad too that I didn't get to buy Molcher a pint, maybe another time, but was nice to meet you all, and Alex (who really is a lovely guy), John, Carlos and Karl.

A fun moment on the night was when John rang Carlos up to ask where he was, as we were waiting for him so the film could be shown. I think he was 20 mins late and when he entered spontaneous clapping began with some cheers for good luck.

Wow, wow and then a bit more wow.
The film itself is like reading a comic on screen, probably (for myself) the best I could hope for.
Enjoyed the twists etc as had stayed away from the internet chat before.
So well set up for future films around the MC1 / Dredd world.
Karl is very good as Dredd. :)
Spot the other film references throughout as well as the various other easter egg type stuff. :D
Karl and Alex (as well as John and Carlos - wish I'd know he was going would ahve taken the covers book for him to sign!) both top notch chaps, happy to talk and sign and pose etc, etc.
Though Alex was going to have a heart attack before the screening as he was so worried about what the board members would think about it!
Also I just happend to be outside when we walked in and said "I recognise you from the Drokk gig at Orbital" and then it clicked who he actually was and then wondered what he thought when he was undercover!
Many thanks for Tony (London's Shuggy King) as we both must have talked to Alex for about half an hour not knowing who he was!, although he did say he worked in films! :-X
But a great evening out and you must all go and watch it several times John Wagner said it was the fourth time he's watched it and he is still noticing new bits in it!

It really was - I can't thank the guys enough for inviting me! I'm still buzzing this morning and can't concentrate on my work at all! The little ripple of middle-aged nerd buzz that went round the pub when Mr Wagner arrived (after claiming he wouldn't be attending on his facebook) was something to behold.
Allon Reich and Dohmnall Gleeson (who plays the Clan Techie) were also at the screening. I was half tempted to creep up to Dohmnall and tell him to "STOP DOING X MEN!" but I didn't want to make an arse of myself!

Well, I had a cracking night, despite getting too drunk, making a tit of myself in front of Alex Garland (I said the Atrium looked like a large soundstage, and he said it was an actual square in Johanesburg, which both melted my brain and shot down the only minor niggle I had with the film), and trying to persuade all and sundry to go out on a massive piss-up afterwards.
Particular highlights were:
Walking into The Ship and saying 'Are you the 2000AD Foru- oh god that's John Wagner!'
Nipping to the loo at the Soho Hotel, and accidentally stumbling into a photo opportunity with Mr Wagner and Mr Urban (not in the toilets I hasten to add).
The round of applause when Carlos walked into the auditorium.
The film! Grud, the film! It was soooo good!
Getting a pic with Carlos, when all the poor bugger wanted to do was get in a lift with his wife and seek refuge from the throng.
Meeting loads of really cool people, including Goaty (sorry my sign language was so rusty!), Judgefett (Cardiff Massiv), radiator, Danmarr, stront, Joe, Richard, Mr Burdis - the list goes on and on!

And last but by no means least, the wonderful momento of the evening - this weeks 2000AD signed by John and Carlos!
Seriously, the last 24 hours just seems like some crazy wacky dream I had, it was so extraordinary.

I pottered over to reuters but could see nowt on dredd.anyway the important thing is everyone seems to have had a good time and the film is ace.
Just got home too and would dearly like to add my thanks to the good folks at Rebellion/DNA for arranging this for us, it was simply incredible! I feel doubly spoiled as it seems I was rewarded for doing the blog I love!
The night wasn't just a dream come true, it was several dreams come true. I still feel like I'm walking on air.
It's one of those things that they sell to places around the world. I know at least two others were interviewed as well as me!

(stifling my jealousy for a moment..) This sounds like a fantastic evening - I hope Molch-R is bigging this up to the various geek websites and magazines, as such a rare and generous example of going the extra mile for the fans deserves recognition. Well done to all the droids and film makers for takiong time to give (a lucky few) fans such a wonderful treat.

It's actually in Cape Town, in front of Artscape, and was also used recently for the finale of Chronicle.

I asked Molch-R to take a picture of me with Karl Urban and I noticed that he was standing on tip toes.
The first picture didn't come out right so Molch-R said he would take another. "And no trying to look taller than me this time!", I quipped to Karl, to which he replied;
"I'm Judge Dredd, I've got to be taller."

Was an honour to be there. I've had time to process it, and verdict is: it's great. I really enjoyed it.
I was a little taken aback by the violence, but on reflection, I think it was probably pretty in keeping with Dredd of the comics. I can certainly say that fans and non-fans alike will be able to enjoy the film, it hangs together nicely as a sci-fi thriller. Tight, fast paced, action packed - job done!
Afterwards, I was lucky enough to spend a few moments with John Wagner - cheekily showed him some of my work... he was very kind and I think, uncharacteristically for me, I was a little in awe of him.
Sad I didn't manage to chat to Carlos, but it was very cool that he made it too!
Was lovely also to catch up with old pals and board members I hadn't met before. Sadly I had to catch an early train home to help out with my little boy who's teething has been making him miserable!
