Title: Murder & violence rampage at Tottenham Court Road!!
Post by: Oddboy on 06 January, 2003, 06:38:07 PM
I got "The Getaway" (PS2) for x-mas from my loving dear wife - and bloomin' great it is too!

Straight out of the Lock, Stock... genre, you are a Soho gangster running amok accross London trying to rescue your kidnapped son while doing 'jobs' for evil crime-lord Charlie.
The detail on this game is perfect - they've mapped out the London roads brilliantly - right down to every Burger King, The Link & Dixons branch.
(The only problem is that they've just redone the traffic system around Trafalgar Square so the games out of date already, but that's being fairly harsh & piccy)

How detailed is it? I want to rampage around my old workplace maiming all the bastard customers with an axe.

You can only enter certain buildings (that relate to the plot) but as long as your workplace isn't in a tiny road (they've skipped off all the tiny sideroads/alleyways) or too far from the centre then you can kill them as they arrive for work...

A friend of mine created a maze for 'Doom' based on our old work place and placed monsters in all the offices where hated management types lurked. It was really good childish fun going round the place blasting the crap out of them.

I thought it was a job vacancy.

I hope all those doing 'the knowledge' make full use of this, instead of buzzing round on their scooters with the clipboards on the front and nearly running me over whenever I visit the smoke as I wander around like some damn rube who's never seen traffic before,

Jeezus Odd you're wife encourages comics and games usage?! You're living the dream you lucky sod. Also: If you enjoy crazy driving get midtown madness 2. It's in London too but lacks the mindless violence. You can also visit 1960's London with the (now ancient) GTA add-on pack 1. Basically, if you're American or British then fine. I'll never be able to plough through hordes of street hawkers and scumbags in my native Dublin.

Still I always have the starship voyager... Take that Neelix!

Phew!
Completed The Getaway last night... which is strange in itself as most games I usually get stuck, get bored & give up before that point.

Now onto GTA:VC...

Watching Oddgirl playing the Getaway was brilliant - far better then playing it myself.

Okay, she wasn't very good at it (the un-PC phrase 'female drivers' might apply here, but let me assure you all that she's a fine driver when actually in a car) but the manic glee in her face & laughter as she smashed into pedestrians & police cars and walls before heading up to do some slaughter at Head Office was simply a beautiful thing to watch!

Yeah, I'm on GTA:VC (which I got for Chrimbo).
Trouble is my wif is anti-anything with violence, which limits the films we watch togther to lovey-dovey romantic-comedies, (shite to you and me!). And the number of games we play together on the PS2 to...
erm...
none!

Oddboy, can you get Oddgirl to have a word with Mrs. Dane please!

Relax, Oddboy- I am merely in love with the idea of a missis who endorses such time wasting fun...
