Title: Richard Stanely's "Hardware"
Post by: markibbo on 28 October, 2012, 07:36:38 PM
This should be in the "Movie" forum but i can't post a new topic there so i'm doing it here........this is in a way the first (as i'm aware)adaptation of a 2000AD story into a film......as i remember it might have been a "future shock" in an 80's prog but can't be sure .......i have just been watching a trailer on youtube and the memories came flooding back.....anyone else remember this????

Got it on Blu a few years back- good, but not as good as you remembered!

And the rest!
Good commentary with Richard Stanley though- would be worth picking up (no doubt cheaply) for that alone.

I'm a fan. I think it looks remarkably good for a movie made with change from a million quid. The leads are frustratingly wooden but against that you've got Iggy Pop, Lemmy, and Ministry's mighty track, Stigmata. Plus, Carl McCoy. :-)

Cheers

Jim

That's undeniable Jim- some great old school effects on a very modest budget.

Probably the most 2000ad movie that is not Dredd.

Actually it's not too hard to imagine them sharing a world.

You'll be needing the 1981 Judge Dredd Annual, as that is where it first appeared.

There's no Iggy Pop music in the film -- he has one of the film's signature oddball cameos, appearing only as the voice of DJ Angry Bob whose line "And the good news is... there is no fucking good news" has remained something of a catchphrase of mine these past twenty-odd years...

Cheers

Links to an article plus the strip itself:

I told a friend of mine about this the other day, another fellow 2000AD fan, when he was bangining on about Hardware and how much he loved it.  I said 'Shame they ripped off that 2000AD future shocks story, eh?' and he was gobsmacked - he had no idea!  I thought everyone knew this??

Just been browsing through Barney, and Shok! was indeed reprinted in the Prog (id completely forgotten). Prog 612, is the one youll need, and should be easier/cheaper to track down than the Annual. Though id imagine either will be fairly plentiful on E-bay.

Didn't the DVD come with a replica of the comic strip?
Sure my copy did.

Haven't watched it since was released first time around. From what I remember it wasn't bad. Oddly enough I came across it quite by accident the other day on YouTube after reading this post. Here's the link for the full movie.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZSVrosLJNw
