Title: FUTURE SHORTS - Future Shock style short films...
Post by: Pete Wells on 13 January, 2013, 11:09:30 AM
There are some fantastic short films on the web which could have been ripped from the pages of 2000AD itself! If you find a good 'un, how about sharing them on this thread? I'll kick of with R'Ha which looks absolutely BEAUTIFUL. The twist is a bit obvious but it's still worth a watch, especially as it's only 6 minutes long. Check it out here:

Wonderful stuff. Loved the design and the whole look of the project. Nice twist and beautifully rendered. Hope this Film maker goes onto make big budget Movie's/games.

It would make a nice web of even TV series.

Like the Twilight Zone, but introduced by Tharg.

The web - Youtube and Vimeo especially - is packed with awesome amateur film-making veering between kids with a camcorder playing cops and robbers to actual ongoing series like Nuka Break.  Obviously the fan-movies tend to galvanise efforts around existing properties as they're mostly fans and professionals having a bit of fun, but anything by Wayside or Batinthesun are worth a look.  Just go to Youtube and type in "short" and whatever genre you're interested in - sci-fi fans are quite spoiled for choice.

Oh wow Steve, Tempo was wonderful! It was like Portal crossed with Half Life - Harp could play Freeman if there was ever a HL movie!

Blinky was stunning too, absolutely terrifying!

Here's two more:

RUIN - Nice CG movie that looks like the Terminator films crossed with Enslaved. Apparently 20th Century Fox are making a full version:

THE GIFT - Just beautiful. Some of the design work here is breathtaking:

Enjoy!

Yeah, Philips did quite a few of those for the Gift (think it was taking the same script and letting directors do their own take)

They did this before, obviously inspired by TDK

Cool!

Found a couple more, firstly a very short and thought provoking Lost Memories: http://vimeo.com/49425975 (http://vimeo.com/49425975)

Secondly, the very 2000AD-esque Seed: http://vimeo.com/52045867 (http://vimeo.com/52045867)

I'll be cheeky and throw in two of my own shorts  :o
Not scifi but have the twist.

Hit and miss because of the sheer volume of short animations they post, but all of fairly high quality. Every now and then you'll be blown away by something.
