As I am not currently in a shared working environment, I can no longer abuse my employer's stationery to print out personal documents. I'm looking for a cheap, reliable printer to print letters, Ryanair boarding passes and the like. High quality colour photo printing is not a requirement but being able to get decent quality scans of a load of old photos would be useful.
Basically, I have no idea what to look for or what I need to consider beyond how expensive the ink is going to be.
Caxton.

Caxton.
In bench tests, the Caxton 1415 is consistently out-performed by the Gutenberg 1395.
Just buy the cheapest piece of shit Argos has to offer,
Cosh - printer manufacturing is based on such old and well understood technology, and parts are so plentiful and inexpensive, that it has reached the plateau which all technology gets to eventually, where the only reason for choosing a model from a name manufacturer is how much cash you enjoy spending. See also, flat screen tellies and trainers.
With the price of inks, its cheaper to throw away your printer/copier and buy a new one everytime they run out.
As Sauchie says, there all the same now, and they all do a pretty good job.
Yep. Buy the cheapest piece of crap you can find with ink carts in the box - it'll cost you around 30 quid to replace a set of ink carts anyway. Most supermarkets have some sort of cheapo models in store.
Be wary of HP. They have the print nozzles in the cartridges so although they give good prints they cost a fortune to replace.
We use Brother printers in the studio since moving over from Epson a couple of years back. They are easy to use, wireless, inks relitively cheaper than most, lasts longer and they don't need much cleaning if any at all.
