Titan are publishing some interesting comics from 2000ad alumni Carl Critchlow, John Higgins, Si Spurrier, PJ Holden and...some people it's probably not my place to mention just yet.
Death Sentence is a six issue series with art by Mike Dowling, who you may remember from Dredd, Six brothers, and '49. And it's no exaggeration to say this is his best art yet.
"The art looks the bastard offspring of Sean Phillips, Francavilla, and Jock, which is great. Beautiful, dirty coloring too, none of that nasty air-brushed rubbish that's so common nowadays. Tons of energy"
There's a trailer for the comic here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmFa-flzE0I (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmFa-flzE0I)
An interesting review of issue 1 on Comic Book Resources, from Sonia Harris (aka @secretbean).

I must admit I'm really looking forward to this.
It's in CLiNT
A new review!

Another review, but don't worry. This one doesn't make any wild allusions to Death Sentence being "like only the best bits of Watchmen" >cough!<

You can pre-order it from any comic shop now too. The new Previews was out yesterday.
Wee interview about the characters, the backstory, and the wonderful 2000ad artist Marvelous Mike Dowling: http://whatculture.com/comics/interview-with-death-sentence-writer-monty-nero.php
Aint it cool pitch in, with some stuff about how to persuade Mike Dowling to work with you - and why this is 'good comics' http://www.aintitcool.com/node/62746
Here's one of the six variant covers for Death Sentence #1 - available to order now. I like the fact it hasn't got any of the normal cover clutter on it. And it's always nice to see the pencils.
I did four of them (I'm cheap!!) and Marvelous Mike did two.

So this is the final variant cover I did for Death Sentence #1, exclusively available from Forbidden Planet. There's only a limited number of these, so if you want one...

It was fun to try and think of something visually different with a bit of humour and personality. Now if only I could buy a toilet brush duck like that.
Whereas the comic looks and sounds great, I admit being a little disappointed this wasnt a comic about the Titan penal colony and 'death sentence' refering to the fact corrupt judges go for 20 years in the harsh environment......
Apparently there's a free 11 page sample of Death Sentence in the new Comic Heroes magazine, along with First Kingdom, Thrud and more. Though I haven't seen it myself.
Also Al Ewing on Avengers and Jedi master David Lloyd in the same issue - so I will definitely be buying this.
