Noticed today that my iPad app has updated to now include the Megazines, as well as new features like bookmarking and smart zoom. Also, all the content has been sorted by year and you can now see what issues you own in each year.
I do have one question, which is does the Meg download include the 64-page reprint book? The iPad edition is £5.49 per issue, whereas the paper version is £5.60 (and you get the reprint). Also, the PDF or CBZ digital version of the Megazine is only £3 on shop.2000ADonline.com, so if the iPad edition doesn't have the reprint, it makes it look quite expensive in comparison.
Was about to subscribe to the paper version of the Megazine, so would appreciate any guidance before making an investment.
I'm willing to bet the Meg reprints are included with the iPad digital edition.
As it currently stands, I've been using the iPad app for 2000 AD since December, but I've been using the 2000 AD Digital Shop for the Megazine since January.
Using both has given me some perspective about both options.
As it stands, I've saved a little bit of money subscribing monthly to 2000 AD on the app then I would have buying the Prog through the shop. Also its super nice to have the new Prog already downloaded and ready when I wake up Wednesday mornings without having to do anything.
But...
Buying the Meg through the digital shop in CBR format has been a really nice for a couple of reasons. Local backing up of purchases being a big one. The other huge one is the ability to duplicate the CBR file, and turn one into Just the Megazine, and the other Just the Bagged Reprint. Very very nice to be able to do. In the future I might be able to do other kooky things like make my own 'collected editions' of strips. Or compile an entire year of Judge Dredd Meg strips into a single CBR for casual rereading. Potential abounds.
Can't really do that with the 2000 AD App. Which is why I will probably continue using the App only until the end of this year, and then switch to the digital shop. Yeah it will cost a couple bucks more a month, but the convenience factor is too great.
Cool! I neeeeeeeeeeed an iPad.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Adventurer.
Regarding, 2000AD comic. For me, subscribing through the iPad app is a no brainer because if I subscribe for a year I get 3 months worth of back issues for free. I have only been reading the graphic novels lately, so have missed the comics. In terms of cost per issue, this knocks the others into a cocked hat. My wife has also warned me she doesn't want comics clogging up the house, so marital harmony is also retained!
Onto the Meg, I assumed that the CBR/PDF download off the web didn't come with the reprint. It's not too clear on the shop site, and the price is so low I assumed it was just the Meg itself. Therefore, this does make the Meg through the iPad more expensive than buying individual Megs from the Digital Shop. Even taking into account the 3 free Megs for subscribing for a year on the iPad.
Both CBR and PDF would allow you to read on other devices other than an iPad as well. PC and Mac have readers, and I assume other tablet operating systems, like Google Android, would too.
Which CBR reader do you use, Adventurer?
I use ComicZeal, which I believe is $3 or $5 in the app store. It has a lot of organization options for keeping your collection in order.
Its only real problem is it doesn't like 2 page spreads that are two separate image files. It won't display them properly, even if you turn your device sideways to landscape mode. Kind of annoying. But otherwise rock solid software.
Also, just to be clear. The 2000 AD Digital Shop Megs include the Reprint. Its part of the CBR or PDF file you get. So at the end of the Meg, the reprint starts.
I can't confirm if the iPad App does it the same way. But it'd be crazy if it didn't.
Thanks Adventurer.
Digital CBZ/PDF with Reprint equals bargain!
Lots of good reviews on the web for ComicZeal (£2.99 in the UK App Store).

But the digital version on the website is £3, on the iPad is £5.49. I'd like all my thrills in one place, but it's a big difference in price...
Hmmm...I updated the iPad app and it wants to charge me £1.99 to download this weeks prog, even though I subscribe. I downloaded it into my phone earlier.
Did you make sure you were logged in?
When in doubt reset the app.
Turning the phone on and off again can help too.
And the annual sub IS MINE!!! Looks gorgeous!
