And my Blog may be fixed... (not that it was ever really broken...)
Signed! Thanks for letting us know about it CF! Let's hope a lot of people play their part to make this happen!

At the SDCC panel:
"Make a Dredd Sequel" campaign artwork displayed in the panel prompted cheers and shouts, and the panel encouraged fans to go online already and support the campaign. 2000 AD officially announced today that they will be supporting the campaign through print ads, and setting up an official petition. Michael Molcher said that they've been very supportive and happy with the first film and are delighted to put their weight behind getting a new film made. Dredd: Underbelly, a movie comics sequel, will start in Megazine 340 in September. Drawn by Henry Flint, the series will have stripped down text and have a story that's told quite like the movie with more of a viewer experience. I doubt there's more to it than a response to Karl bringing attention to and telling people to contact Lionsgate, and it stops Rebellion getting asked why they aren't supporting it.

Everyone's excited by the difference between cinema performance and home video sales, everyone at Comic-Con has been asking him about a Dredd sequel, he's met Alex Garland to discuss the possibility of a sequel, he would do a sequel, and fans should make their desire for a sequel known on things like twitter and facebook if they want it to happen.

"I had a meeting with Alex Garland and we're actively looking into possibility of making a sequel to the film'
"It's amazing how these things occurred. Not to compare it directly to 'Blade Runner,' but when 'Blade Runner' came out it was a film that didn't necessarily do what you thought that it should have done at the box office. I feel the same way about 'Dredd.' The reviews were overwhelmingly fantastic ... but for whatever reason it didn't do the box office numbers that it should have."
"I think the more people that campaign for it, the more people that email, Twitter and write into Lionsgate and say 'We want to see more of this,' then the more likelihood is that we'll get to see that. We certainly are doing everything we can to ensure that happens."
Awesome, thanks Sauchie and Joe, as I said before, Karl a smart guy!

You have to admit there's been A LOT of dismissive eye-rolling about this and now, suddenly, it's officially backed.
I'm glad it is though.
How do we know the amount of signatures so far?
This from the 2000 AD newsletter
and now there is an OFFICIAL petition that Earthlets can sign, calling for a sequel to one of the best films of 2012 - it's already passed 10,000 names and the total keeps rising!
Signed, and heartily encouraged to all and sundry!

fwiw, I think 3D was the big mistake- it kept me away from the cinema because of the cost of it- I calculated at the time that it would have cost me 3 times as much to see it that if it was in 'normal' vision (which is pretty 3D as well, BTW) and that priced me out of it. Lost count how many times I've watched the DVD though (which I would have bought even if I had went to the pictures to see it).
Now on Digital Spy;

QuoteI calculated at the time that it would have cost me 3 times as much to see it that if it was in 'normal' vision
How does that work?
simple- my local cinema doesn't do 3d- so that meant driving 35 miles to the nearest one that did- and the cost of that cinema is more than my local anyway, with the added cost of 3D films that brought the total of me and the missus going to see Dredd 3D up to around £60 instead of the £12 it would have cost at my local. Not quite 3 times as much, but as near as damn it

Make A Dredd Sequel page on that thar faceybook is almost at 40,000 likes. That's traction. If only they had gone see it in the cinema to start with :)
Think that, if sequel happens, more people will see it cos of Dredd not that some Stallone(who him)'s some film.
Ace comedian and noted geek Patton Oswalt just tweeted a link to the sequel petition, calling the original 'an excellent movie'.
wow, I swear the fb page was on 30,000 today ( or yesterday?) now it's on 40,000.
Great to hear there's 20,000 signs on the petition too. This is crazy!
Is there anywhere we can check the amount of people signing the petition ourselves? Or are we reliant on Molcher divulging numbers?

Some reports about this campaign seem to be suggesting that it's being driven by a group of hardcore, old-school fans, but from what I've seen it's a very different story. The Facebook campaign was apparently started by a guy from Ohio who had no previous knowledge of Judge Dredd, and I've seen countless reviews and comments from people who approached the movie with little prior knowledge of the character and were blown away by how enjoyable it was. I think it's important to stress that when we say "the fans" want a sequel, this means movie fans in general - not just fans of the comic.
Now Time Out tweet about it too!

Yeah, it's not that at all - some guy from Ohio, Frank I think?
And it's exactly why they need to reach beyond the existing fanbase and why the theatrical take was so low.
Personally I think it's a fine line to tread between wanting something and spamming people and being generally needy.
Wouldn't call it 'spamming'. The movie (and TV) business has been receiving fan requests since, well, not long after it began I imagine.
Its what they expect, its also what they benefit from. No costly research for them, just open their mailbag/ email account. Many a profitable venture has resulted from listened to what the movie going public want.
Lets just hope it happens again.
I guess the sheer enthusiasm that comes off from things like the Facebook page might have given some the impression that it's more of a die-hard fan movement. The reason I was slightly concerned about some reports giving that impression is that the impression that only die-hard fans are enthusiastic about a series is sometimes used by people who dislike the series as a weapon to belittle it and suggest that it has little mainstream appeal. I firmly believe that the movie Dredd has mainstream appeal far beyond people like me who grew up with the comics. I think Judge Dredd is a good story with a rich history, and if it entertains a load of new people half as much as it's entertained me over the years, then that's great.
Anyway, I really like reading comments by random people about how fascinated they are in the world and how they want to learn more about Judge Dredd. While I'm not one of those people who craves "mainstream" validation for things I like, it still gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling to see their enthusiasm. I'm sure a lot of them will have at least bought a couple of JD Case Files, too. I actually enjoy getting the Facebook updates and reading all the comments :-[

If I remember correctly is was a fan campaign by Trek fans that made Paramount green-light the Star Trek Phase II series which eventually evolved into Star Trek: The Motion Picture.
Between ST-TOS series 2 and 3 there was a fan campaign to bring it back. Allegedly (according to wikipedia) it led to one million letters being sent.

The official Dredd facebook page has well over 200,000 likes, would be amazing to get even close to that. :)
This is REALLY good. If we do get a sequel it has a ready made promotional campaign in this alone...
If we do get our beloved sequel made I hope it is properly marketed this time as I feel this was one of the major failings of the first film not suceeding at the box office. As stated befor it already has a form of free advertising from all the petitions and film sites getting behind it. :)

Send Judges at each cinema? Or Malls? Or somewhere for people to opening their eyes?
Best you buy a uniform to show your love for a sequel then Goaty. You can patrol with Rob at the North East pictures and shopping centres ;)
I am waiting for my "cameo" in Dredd 2, as Judge or prep, so I nick the clothes to use it to spread the word!
;)
So you are going to spread the word 'after' the film has been made!
Better 'marketing'? Get more people to watch it, for 2nd sequel!
So what happens now?
Whoever handles the e-mail at Lionsgate develops a nervous twitch.
The likes seem to be slowing down on the facebook page. Wonder what they can do next to keep it going up fast? Karl urban doing a video I think would be good.
