Here's Nick Percival's variant cover for JD : Mega-City Two.

filippo
Ooooh!
Nice! :)
Looking forward to this - hope it's going to be available digitally...
Ain't out till first month(s) of next year I believe.
I think that's a wee bit better than the A cover ;)
Didn't MC2 get
zombie apoc/nuked
in the 2000AD continuity?
This is IDW, that's all you need to know ;)

Parts of it still exist and have appeared in recent Michael Carroll stories.

Well if its IDW... I blame the butter.
JUDGE DREDD MEGA CITY TWO #1 (OF 5) set to arrive 1/22/2014 (http://www.previewsworld.com/Home/1/1/71/916?stockItemID=NOV130326).
That is a terrific cover by Mr. Farinas. I remember he was on this board a while ago talking about the cover. Excellent stuff!
That's lovely - but the 1st of the 22nd what month could that be? Oh you Americans.
So this is a distinct mini-series then - ? Will have to reserve it seperate from IDW Dredd!
"Judge Chunky goes to Mega-City Two and buys some green Doc Martins to replace his standard-issue Judge boots."
What's with the teddy bear on his gun?
QuoteToo many links!
Just getting in there before anyone else. ;)

QuoteIn the Judge Dredd universe, Mega-City Two is an enormous city-state that takes up 5,000 square feet of the United States west coast...
Woah, and I thought MC-1 had been downsized!
Let's not worry about such trivial details.
Woah - I really am all over this. IDW TAKE THE MONEY I DON'T HAVE
Yeah, adding that magnificent art to my respect for Wolk and this looks like a must-have comic.
Not that it really matters, but given the vast knowledge of the 'main' Dredd universe on display in that cityscape, where do we think this fits (if anywhere)? Is it the IDW version of MC-2, a pre-Judgement Day iteration of 'our' MC-2, an MC-2 that ties in with Matt's Year One (i.e. pre-Cursed Earth), or like the Mars Attacks book just its own thing?
Life was simpler when we just had to worry about the novels.
I think the detail and thought in that picture is amazing but the one thing that throws it for me is the flying vehicle with the topless woman in the bottom left of the image. The vehicle is called 'Orgie' making you think it is a flying brothel. Surely this would be outlawed in a MC so does not ring true?? It makes it look more like a cityscape from Marshall Law. As I say though still a cracking picture. :)
Wow, MC-2 has OWLS?!? Maybe they're android ones, like in Blade Runner.
Epic cover though! It's like a sci-fi 'Where's Wally?' pic, but without the nuisance of having to find Wally.
Top right - 'The Karl Urban Renewal Dome Zone'. Brilliant!

My guess is that it takes place in the IDW continuity. Not that I really care! It always was a rash misstep to destroy MC2 - and Douglas is astute in recognising that it's a major part of Dredd's world that has never really been explored. Frankly, I'd be happy if Tharg just said "It's been rebuilt".
The fact that MC2 apparently extends up as far as Oregon and Washington state is intriguing - as writer and artist are both based in that neck of the woods (as I will soon be) it'll be really interesting to see if we get any of that Pacific Northwest flavour rather than the L.A./California satire I was initially expecting.
It all looks really great - can't wait to read it.
QuoteSurely this would be outlawed in a MC so does not ring true??
QuoteIt's the sister city of Mega-City One, Dredd's home, but it operates in ways that are quite different, as Dredd will soon discover.

Plenty of open prostitution in MC-1, and while certain aspects appear to be illegal (possibly slabwalking (i.e. soliciting on the street) and IIRC interspecies (i.e. with aliens)), there are sex-meks and red-light districts and 'Dult zones a-plenty (most recently seen in Day of Chaos): possibly it's a similar situation to smoking, where it's only legal in designated areas (Sexatoriums?).
It's usually only the
serious vices that Justice Dept clamps down on - comics, coffee and so forth.
I definitely need to catch up a lot more on the progs I have missed during my 20 year absence (I am trying slowly!!). Back in my day the judges would never have put up with such filth ;) (Mary Whitehouse mode now disengaged)

We'll miss ye, Radiator!
This looks seriously, SERIOUSLY good. I've added it to my standing order - bloody marvellous.

I presume that in the other Mega-Cities with their different Chief Judges and Councils there's also different legislation so even if brothels were ilegal in MC-1 it doesn't neccessarily follow that they are in MC-2.
Just spent a good few minutes looking at that picture - it's fantastic isn't it? Love all the detail that's in there - 'feeling ragey' & 'megway mutants were people too'.
I am not too concerned about flying brothels and the like. It's not critical if they are/are not illegal to the Mega City setup and as has been mentioned before, the IDW stuff is best viewed as a nice sideline which doesn't have to be too concerned about the previous years tooth continuity. So yeah, MC2 may or may not have been nuked on Judgement Day - I dont really mind either way.

If it was in MC1, I'd assume it was like the Aggrodome - somewhere you go to offload urges in a way which would be illegal outside that specific context. As it's California - Hollywood sign, Scientology, Michael Bay and Van Halen - I'm thinking MC2 has as different an approach to law enforcement to MC1 as LA does to NYC. There's no real point in doing a Dredd story where he goes somewhere other than MC1 if it's no different to the Meg.
Tinkering with the Bunty's Joe?
Great promo. Where's the teddy off to?
I'm really looking forward to this. Year One and Mars Attacks were good, but the main series has dropped off a bit. This looks like it could get the IDW series back on track.
Oh that is fantastic. I love (what I presume is) the new MC-2 Judge Kennedy uniform, complete with Dirty Frank accents (and maybe a touch of Anaheim Justice?), but most of all I fervently hope that Dredd at some point dons that Gestapo Bob fake beard ensemble.
See my dissenting doubts about the comics debut of Brian Ruckley on Rogue Trooper? I'll have to change that general tune or risk double standards, 'cos I'm certainly excited about the maiden voyage of the good ship Wolk.
That is brilliant! I'm going to get five copies, and me n the kids are gonna get the scissors out!

Agreed!
I thought Hondo City had rebuilt MC2 shortly after Judgement Day and Supersurf 13 was held there, so would be under the control of the Hondo Justice Dept

Luckily you're the only one who remembers this, since it
never happened. Now just look at this gadget in my hand and ZZZAP.
Nah, I think the current consensus is that Hondo only got as far as rebuilding a showcase portion of the sprawling ruins of MC-2 and that it didn't go very well after that, and the project either stalled or was completely abandoned. If as Tharg sugggested it has simply been retconned out of existence that would be a first for Dredd, and thus a bit of shame. Mike Carroll has recently set a loose sequence of stories there depicting much of the city as still ruined and lawless, which mention ongoing earthquake problems (I suppose dropping TADs on the San Andreas fault will do that). Currently it''s East-Meg 2 that has a colony there, populated by MC-1 citizens with Sov origins or ancestry 'repatriated' after Chaos Day.
None of this matters however, as the IDW books don't seem bound by 2000AD Dredd continuity. Either that, or you can assume that the book is set before Judgement Day, and/or that MC-2 is a very large and very diverse place.
so could be Year 2
