Title: SJS Scheme
Post by: Mangamax on 31 January, 2003, 03:08:14 PM
Can anyone help me out and save me a long trip to the attic trawling through back progs?
What's the colour scheme for the SJS Judges uniforms?

BLACK ALL BLACK
they look very menacing, even the badge has no name on it. just SJS.
great character touch that. a faceless part of the system.

The bodysuit is black, the shoulder eagle, belt buckle and SJS insignias are silver - everything else follows the usual street judge colour scheme.

In recent years, Chris Blythe has incorrectly coloured SJS uniforms exactly the same as those of street judges. We now also have inconsistencies in SJS uniform design - some have large shoulder eagles, others have nothing more than SJS logos in their shoulders pads and helmets. Take your pick.

Though to be fair early artwork on the SJS is completely inconsistant as well - just look at the variance throughout "The Day The Law Died".

(gordon, just skip past this, it won't interest you)

I always like to think PSI judges are so rare everyone knows them personally anyway.

Although obviously it was done because Anderson's a bit clunky for a badge (though Flint and some others like to fit a sentence on occasionally) and PSI looks cool.  But it's fun (well for weird fan's) working this stuff out.

The different SJS uniforms are the result of a tender between the big clothing manufacturer's for a new design of SJS uniform.  New varients are currently being tested and the best will be selected to produced a standardised uniform and those that produce faulty product will be subject to the appropriate sentence.

Do the still have thos big sticks with the green flapping things outside? I don't get out much.

Cheers for that - will go with the original scheme. Off now to paint some minatures.

The badges do have the Judges name on, take a look at PJ's Ishmael artwork for '79. His designs were based upon McMahon's SJS uniform, the original and still the best version, accept no substitutes.

I think Bolland did the original version (the 'surprised' look) and McMahon changed it to stand out better against regular Judges.

Think they got it right by the end of the story with the skull motif, better than having SJS in big letters on the helmet IMHO. I always imagined the skull was meant to distinguish Cal's personal goon squad from regular SJS, but seems to have become the definitive version, i.e. the Ishmael one above.

Not a big fan of the SJS skull look.

I mean, what's the point of it?  To make them look scary?  To whom?  Other Judges, 'cos that's mostly who they deal with all the time?

It makes them look more like some kind of SS Death Corps than grim 'who watches the watchmen? type guardians of justice.

It also makes them look like refugees from Warhammer 40000, where a uniform isn't a proper uniform unless it's got some skulls on it.

As much as I like everything McMahon brings to his visuals, I prefer the Boland/Gibbons visualisations and concider them to be a more  appropriate sjs uniform. The beauty of McMahon's take on the outfit is that it reflects the moment in which it existed, The Day the Law Died.
