Title: Lobster Random
Post by: GrinningChimera on 03 December, 2013, 07:39:45 AM
So my package from the online store turned up today. Just read Lobster Random. Great story. The best part was when he takes the dimension drug and you have to physically turn the book around to read the page (either that or turn your head upside down)

Anyway, my question is, are there any more stories of Lobster Random? The one I got is No Gain, No Pain. I see there is a number 01 printed on the spine. Which suggests to me there are more. Could anyone shed some light please? I would love to get more of this guy.

Lobster Random (http://www.2000ad.org/?zone=thrill&page=profiles&Comic=2000AD&choice=lobster) ran 5 series. Unfortunately the story is incomplete and we haven't had a follow up since 2008. Which is one of the more annoy loose ends in 2000 AD. The printed stories are as follows... Only No Pain, No Gain has received a stand alone collected edition at this point...

No Pain, No Gain
Tooth and Claw (reprinted with this month's Meg 342)
The Agony & the Ecstasy
The Vort
The Forget-Me-Knot

A few more details here.

For me Lobster Random is Si Spurrier's standout work in 2000ad and I'd love him to return to it, with Carl, to at least give it a conclusion, if not a massive long new run. I discussed that with him last year at Thought Bubble and the ever lovely Mr Spurrier said he really should get around to it at some point as he did want to tied things up. Who knows whether he was just playing appease the fan whose just pushed a load of Lobster Random stuff under his nose for signing, he's nice enough to do that. Either way Marvel work seems to have pretty much gobbled him up for the time being so I suspect we'll have to be patient to say the least.

I'm not interested in seeing LR 'tied up'.  I just want to see it continue.  I know there are all sorts of deep underlying wotsits at play, but the joy of the strip for me is the character and his bizarre associates: the best outcome would be for Lob to keep ambling on in an irregular series of distasteful adventures.

As much as I would love for Lob to be an ongoing concern, at this point a Book 6 conclusion would be enough for me. Especially with Spurrier booked up over here for the duration.

Well its up to you then to make him feel unwelcome and run him out of town. If movies have told me anything its that Americans don't like no strangers in this here town... mind they also told me we'd have flying cars by now so their not to be trusted I'd guess...

I started reading the second collection of Spurrier's X-Men: Legacy last night and was mildly touched by the reference to the Belardinelli street art gallery.

Lobster Random should be one of the modern stars of 2000AD, its five outings so far have been amongst the best things each year of its publication. Spurrier is comics gold and it would be a shame to see him slip from the stable... he was prolific in 2013 but sadly not a single page for 2000AD.

I was really really REALLY hoping the return of Jack Point at the end of last year was going to lead to Spurrier making a more common appearance in 2000AD again.

Alas.
