Looking through my collection of 2000ad's today I noticed that for some reason I have two editions of prog 1159 with different covers! CAn anyone shed any light on why this might be?

The answer is already on the site. The original version mentioned a free gift, but not enough were produced so a second cover for progs without the free gift had to be printed.

So why didn't they just remove the "Free CD" text, rather then re-do the entire cover?
These Romans are crazy.

To compenste people who got no free gift, I presume.
You can just tell how proud Wake is about having that info. Hehehe.

IIRC, we only got 18000 CDs to covermount. We were told we had to use them and so had two covers done. Why not simply one cover without the FREE CD flash on it? A CD covers a big surface area on 2000 AD - so a properly designed cover without the CD would have looked pretty odd. Also, I think there was a technical reason to do with supply and wholesalers that required two different versions. The exact details escape me. In the end it was easier to stop the presses and change plates. The whole thing was a cock-up from start to finish.

Curious though - I've no idea which version I've got at home!

Because the Devlin Waugh cover was shite and the only thing that took your eye away from it was the free gift.

The pisser is I have the Devlin cover and have never seen a Mazeworld cover. So still trying to find one as the sad fanboy that I am it'll bug me if I cant get one eventually to go with the other variants that I have stacked away 8-?

Given the choice between a fine Arthur Ranson cover, or dull game demo that was probably on a dozen PC mag covers at the time... I just hope 2000AD got some serious bunce out of it, is all.
