Hi all.
I'm trying to discover which issues/progs have stories about Judge Dredd and him fighting pushers or users of the illegal drug, sugar :)
I've done a google search, but can't seem to find much on it.
It has only come to my mind because, here in New Zealand, a group is looking to tax and eventually outlaw soda drinks by the year 2025.

That put me in mind of the Dredd stories. I'm sure I've read them in the past, but can't remember when.
I'm a new user and can't see a search box in order to do a forum search, either.
Many thanks!
Lol I can't remember the names at the top of my head but there's the recent one about the nun in meg 341?
And there's one where a guy who works the cleanup crew ends up trying to shoot Dredd cuz Dredd shot up a girl he was supposed to go on a date with. I think the girl was caught with sugar.
Lol pretty sure that's not helpful. Someone help me here :p
Hi,
the forum search never seems to work well.
Off the top of my head
You've got the Uncle Ump/Umpty Candy storylines (not sugar, but banned because it tasted so good it was addictive) (prog 145) (case files 03)
There were some follow-ups to this in a later prog/reprinted case file as well as Dead Ringer in the Megazine which had an Umpty planet and Dredd tripping on Umpty.
The Sweet Taste of Justice was in a 1981 special, reprinted in the restricted case files 01 (probably the best example)
There was also a Neil Gaiman text story in the 1988 annual called Sweet Justice
And a Ron Smith story called the Sugar Beat Prog 873-8
Cheers
Steve
Thanks!
I actually had the 1981 2000AD special that Sweet Taste Of Justice originally appeared in.
Just couldn't remember which one it was. Found the special out in a cardboard box in my folks' shed :P
Snowstorm (http://www.2000ad.org/?zone=prog&page=profiles&choice=819) by Garth Ennis and Colin MacNeil (819).
I liked Snowstorm apart from the very unlikely scenario of a pusher
affirming to Dredd that he was carrying, without even turning round to check who was asking.
. But it was one of the few Ennis Dredds I thought was pretty good.
Also, one of these had Jason Donovan (well, a future version of him) using sugar, and Dredd busting him. Again, he was undone by an improbable lack of common sense for an illegal drug abuser. Also, though i haven't re-read it recently, the story has to be dated now; featuring as it does the (mostly) long-forgotten crap musicians of the early 90s. http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/95412.Judge_Dredd (http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/95412.Judge_Dredd)
But fair play, history has shown that the real-life Jason did indeed have a fondness for a certain illegal white powder around that time. ALLEGEDLY.
Arrest for sugar possession comes up in one of the Crime Swoop stories... possibly The Graveyard Shift?
