I know some of you crusty old farts eschew social media and thus may not be following 2000AD on Facebook or Twitter, so you might miss this little snippet:
QuoteIncredible news - next week's 'jumping on' issue of 2000 AD has just SOLD OUT a week early! There's a reprint on its way but this is the 1st time this has EVER happened! Grab a copy when you can, Earthlets!
That's pretty amazing, IMO, and has cheered me up no end. First boarder to come up with a negative spin on this story wins a free punch in the throat. Bonus kick in the balls if you manage a dig at MOLCH-R.
Cheers
Jim
Yeah, I just read that news and it warmed the hearts of my cockles. I wonder what the numbers involved are? Regardless, what a great result!
Great news!
(And don't worry, you can still buy it in the shops. It simply means every copy printed has been bought by the various distributors, to put on sale)
Huzzah :D
That's grand news - extra oil all round!

I just heard that some lanky thief stole thirty grand from a terminally ill pensioner and spent it all on buying multiple copies of a childrens comic.

Bloody 2000AD, forcing me to buy a second printing as well, to keep the collection up. That's three I have to buy that week then! No, that's seriously scrotnig news, and wigs off to all concerned. That's what happens when you put Slaine on the cover!
SBT
Wow that's just great news, great news.
Shame the negative spin prize has gone I hang around enough comic based internet sites that this would have been second nature to me. A few examples would have been.
1) Oh great so I've been buying this for years and now Me Me I Me might not get a copy of the first print, how is that fair on me me I me
2) Hold on I subscribe I hope to God me me I me gets both copies
3) What have they under-printed for don't they trust their own hype but we we us we are meant to BASTARDS
4) Oh they will have just done a short print run so they can sell out and get the publicity from that
5) Oh great so we have a launch Prog that newbies won't be able to get hold of, well done Tharg
This is good news, and well deserved. Keep it up Thargy baby.
Back of the net!
filippo
This is indeed, great news!
Confirmation of a sequel.
I'm not a racist, but I would expect someone like Molcher to be proud of the fact that they were too cheap - or maybe too thick - to print enough copies to meet their subscription quotas. I wouldn't be surprised if they'd done it deliberately just to be able to say the issues was in demand or something, only that would take intelligence. I blame Obamacare.
Wake up, shquaxxeeple! This is all just a smokescreen to distract us from the fact 'they' are adding 11 new floors to King's Reach Tower, presumably to warehouse all the unsold copies of Prog 1874.

How can they possibly do that, if it's a decommissioned Command Module? Have they no grasp of the requirements of interstellar engineering? Why won't they release Tharg Zragian the Mighty's birth certificate, huh? I bet he's not even really Betelgeusian.
Also: surely the Dan Dare people own the rights to the current London skyline?
Very cool. What was the print run, out of curiosity?

Heh. I wouldn't hold your breath on that one — we've been baselessly speculating on 2000AD's circulation since the last official figures we got in 2000...!
Cheers
Jim
crusty old farts? why you young poppinjay! No Mickelmas berries for you come St Winfreds day.
Bloody Johnny come latelies! They should refuse to sell copies to anyone who can't explain in detail plot points from 'Junker', 'Mother Earth' and 'Dead Meat'.
Seriously though, well done fellas!
Lovely stuff.

Didn't the Guardian mention a number of 15,000 in their behind the scenes video a while back?
Oh and yeah hearty 'grats to Rebellion for selling out! Word is spreading. Hope they don't run out of digital copies! :D

Yes, they did, which is the first sniff of a figure we've had in over a decade.

Still, 15,000 copies for a non-DC-or-Marvel-superhero book is really good in today's market.
This is terrible news!
MacNeil and Wagner on Dredd, and its bloody sold out? I repeat, its terrible news.
P.S, Will Jock be drawing the cover for the 2nd printing?

I certainly thought so (http://forums.2000adonline.com/index.php/topic,39000.msg777755.html#msg777755) when the number first surfaced, and I don't have any particular reason to feel more pessimistic now than then!

Mental. I thought you were just making that up until I consulted Professor Google. South Bank Tower (http://www.standard.co.uk/business/business-news/property-kings-reach-for-the-sky-as-11-floors-added-8716794.html) sounds a bit wanky, and I'm sure the wealthy Saudi rapists and Russian gangsters who can afford a property in central London would have been more attracted to the prestige of property whose name alludes to the heritage of old English royalty than connotations of hipsters with neck beards and Bromptons. A skyline featuring The Shard and The Gherkin looks more Mat Irvine than Frank Hampson, to me.
I'd heard it was getting a revamp, I didn't know about the extra floors.
Well done on the selling out guys!
It would be very easy to sell out by simply decreasing the print run. However, I'm sure Tharg hasn't stooped to such tricks, that this news represents a genuine increase in readership, and therefore, hoorah.

I dunno what's more alarming, Tordel. Them doing that to the Nerve Centre, or us obsessing over the status of a building last used by 2000ad over twenty five years ago!
Great innit?
Mr. Molcher certainly can PR like a motherfucker.
Great news guys, I'm delighted. Anecdotely one of the guys in forbidden planet in Belfast says 2000ad has been sellijng really well over the past few months. Z

That's just what Tharg wants us to think: it's his Fortress of Solitude and Area 51 store all rolled into one. He's got all kinds of things in there, chemtrail dispensers, earthquake generators, micro-thermite charges, Book IV of Halo Jones... I mean would
you keep all that stuff in the same building as Mek-Quake?
Woop! Pass the oil, Trout, where gonna get squaxx faced tonight in celebration of a zarjaz milestone! Let's hope sales for 1876 are just as good!
What'd you think of the new dinosaur discovered in hells creek Hawk? I know I'm off topic guys don't shout at me! Z
I have an awful lot to say about the subject though i'm yet to properly sit down and read through any of the articles. Best I PM you tomorrow when I've read more about this new Dromeosaouride so we can keep on topic.
Excellent news indeed
What pleases me is, this is in addition to digital copies.
I have been - and still am - anxious that the print edition might wither and die. But if it's selling out then maybe not.
I don't understand. How did this thread get to three pages and nobody's said anything unacceptable or offensive yet? :D
This is great news for 2000AD and I wholeheartedly congratulate Tharg and that muppet from off of Farscape.
Yay!
Well done to Tharg, Molch-R and all droids involved. I'm digital me but great to see that there will 15000+ copies of the prog gracing bathrooms or living room coffee tables throughout the Empire.

I've never been too convinced by the view that printed material will eventually disappear. It's true that certain things e.g. magazines have suffered since the internet but some folks will always want to read off paper.
The digital prog is good but most readers still can't handle double page spreads well, hence the comments in the prog thread about the recent 3riller.
I think the major pull with digital are the two features I looked to. Money and space. A stack of digital comics you can dowload at will saves alot of space compared to a stack of paper, and costs surprisingly less. On avaerage I spend about £3 less each month on digital than I do on physical. Added to other digital purchases which are cheaper than shelf price (esspecially after a month) I find I have enough money for an extra GN each month.
Horses for courses as ussual but I can certainly see why it's become a major pull with the readership.
Congrats Twooth crew! Long live the hardcopy prog.

Word.
And as Montynero points out you can get a copy in the shops. The 'Sold Out' is at distributer level as shops are ordering more. I know some shops have ordered double (maybe some have ordered more than double). I am also aware that some shops had already started ordering more. So double of more = LOTS.
Molch-R has been pushing the Prog with LCS. He's been asking them for feed back of what 2000AD can do for them too.
Plus there is now a locked Twitter Account that is only for LCS (and other Thrill Merchants) that I understand offers incentives & such.
We (I'm including us fans on this) are in a PR Goldenage.
When I read that topic title, I thought that Rebellion was replacing The Mighty Green One with a Justin Bieber 'problems page' where the pop princess would discuss teen romance issues!
I'm most relieved to be proven wrong!
Well done Thargy baby!

Maybe that's why they can never seem to actually keep me an effing copy and I have to go trawling through various newsagents to find back issues.
Someone should organise a mass boycott of Prog 1874. That'll teach Tharg to get ideas beyond his station. ;)
Hear you there prof, happens every other week with me: just nip up to Easons on Royal Ave and you're sorted. Z
Wonderful news! Well done team!
